Thanks for what you're doing! I hope this helps someone. I was getting killed by rats last year. They were getting into our pantry, workshop, barn steeling eggs from our chicken coop and in the garden. I watched KZbin, tried homemade bucket traps, ordered fancy bucket traps, snap traps...etc. caught a few but didn't make a dent in the population. Then I came across a safe, homemade poison. Tried it in the pantry. It actually worked. After 3 days no rats in the pantry. I mixed up a bunch of the stuff and started putting it around our property. Within 3 days no rats, rat damage had stopped. I still keep the stuff around the property and we are doing great. Equal parts of sugar, flower or cornmeal, and Plaster of Paris. Dry mix, inside out of the weather I put it in shallow bowls. Outside I make a container from 2 inch PVC pipe with some 90° elbows so water can't get in but the rats can. Nothing glued, tape in a few places but the top piece is just pushed on so I can easily pull it off to add more of the mix. This stuff really works, safe if something else eats the dead rats it won't hurt them. The rats die a slow enough death that they go home to die. So no bad smell for the year I've been doing this. God bless KZbin solutions! Thanks to KZbin I was able to keep my old mower working at least 2 years longer.

Came back to this to comment because I tried a natural solution and after just a couple weeks, it worked!! I told my kids (9 and 7) that I would give them a quarter for each ladybug they found and placed on a plant in the garden, and it worked! I’m so happy for the plants, and the kids made a couple bucks 😂

Thks to you, maybe I'll plant tomatoes and other veges to replace my huge lawn! Love your informative video. U presented it so eloquently and to the point! TY!

Hi Bryan, when I bought my house in country, it was infested with mice and rats. tried traps, but expensive. wouldn't touch the bloody mess after each and after going through a lot, called pest control that uses poison traps spread around the property, toxic to humans and pets. worried the toxic washout after rains going into my well; told only remedy was a CAT, which i got. now no rodents, no snakes, rabbits, bugs, birds in house. An allergy test showed I was allergic to CATS. Never knew because he sleeps on my bed at night, close by, great companion, loves to accompany me to the garden(Catmint plant there)and best companion and friend. Never experience any allergies symptoms except occasional sneezing. He is well worth it.

Reference to non-coated aspirin for your aspirin/water solution: you can use coated aspirins if you add them to a pint of warm tap water, shake the closed container and let sit for about an hour. The aspirin powder will break through the coating skin and the skins will float to the top. Remove the skins with a spoon, then add this solution to the remainder of the one gallon of water.

Congratulations on 200K, Brian!!! Well deserved! My property looks like squirrel heaven and we were about ready to put up a solar electric fence to keep them out when my husband passed last year. We tried pepper spray on the tomatoes last year and the squirrels apparently thought it was salsa and loved it! ;) This year I'm scaling back and doing most of my planting in containers and I'm going to try a tip I saw about putting plastic forks (tines up) in the top of the container. Hoping that will help this year. We'll see. Thanks again for all the great info. Congrats again!

Thank you for this video. I noticed small dark beetles on my tomato plants so I started googling tomato pests. I found your video and when you mentioned worm droppings, I went back outside armed with a magnifying glass and realized that those weren't beetles, rather poop. I could see that something was eating the outer stem. I couldn't find the worm (this plant does not have a lot of foliage, but it still wasn't visible). Thanks for your tip of checking for it at night, I came out armed with a flashlight and found a brown worm thingie.

I noted what you said about squirrels & you are lucky. They are a big problem for me. I have seen squirrels running across my yard with a tomato in their mouth or sitting up in a tree eating a tomato that they stole. They don't seem to be as fond of my bell peppers, but occasionally they nab those too. I catch them in live traps & release them 5 miles or more away. So, there are now less squirrels. What I find is that I trap a lot of squirrels (& chipmunks) early in the season & after about a month or 2, things really slow down or stop. What squirrels & chipmunks that may still around seem to get wise to the traps & they just avoid my garden altogether. It has been over a month since I last trapped a squirrel or chipmunk. I just leave my 2 traps in front of my garden even if they are not baited or open. They seem to serve as somewhat of a deterrent just by being present. For the last 3 weeks I have only been baiting & setting my traps about once per week & as I mentioned, I have not trapped a thing in over a month. It is a good idea to close your traps at night unless you want to go out in the morning & find a skunk in your trap! I had 1 skunk walk into my open trap that wasn't even baited. This is a very good video & I have used the Hydrogen Peroxide Mix, Baking Soda/Aspirin Mix & Neem Oil Mix with great success.

Thanks for the great videos and the effort that you put into them. The best advice was about the black light. I went to the pet store and bought one sold for pet urine detection since I saw evidence of the hornworms but couldn't see them. I didn't want to wait for Amazon delivery so that is an option for those who may be impatient like I was. So far it has detected at least 5 critters before they did very much damage since I was able to find some small ones as well as a big one. I've never heard of this before so I am very thankful you mentioned it. Keep up the great work and thanks again for helping save my tomato plants!

Tip. I check my tomatoes everyday for the tomato worm eggs. I find a few. Some I miss. But the ones I find do not hatch. They are a bright green. And crunch. When you mash them between your fingernails. When you check every morning. The ones that have hatched out. You get them before they do much damage.

Great info Brian. Made a note of all the sprays. Received my Neptune’s Harvest tomato & vegetable food yesterday. I have been catching rats because they are attracted to my chicken coops. I have used all sorts of traps. Found the best way to catch them is with a trap called a Ratinator. I bait it with chicken scratch. The traps are expensive but effective. Plus no snap traps to get your fingers in...not that I’ve ever done that. 😊🤣 One tip if you use a ratinator is to put a clip on the entry area before using the basin. Otherwise those smart rats will escape as you are carrying the trap to the basin.

I live in California and I have the same rodent population that you describe. Squirrels are awesome but they can get into your garden and then their awesomeness comes to an end. I found that hanging old cds to reflect the sun light helps to deter them. I managed to save my apricots from the squirrels with this strategy. I think they work much like a scarecrow. The flashing light makes them jumpy and they just avoid the area. Rats live in my attic but they have not attacked my garden thankfully. I have been battling them for years with meager success. If you have rats in your garden you may also have them in your attic. You might want to investigate and deal with them where they sleep. The trick is to find and plug all the holes where that enter. That is far easier said than done. And of course good old fashioned snap traps. That are the only thing that has worked for me.

I use jiffy bagged seed starter. In the. Plastic cups/marbles as much as I can I've followed instructions & kept. Things clean & dry(tools leaves) how can I already have possible leaf curl?

Squirrels only eat trees and their fruits, and not all kind of them. They like mango, avocado, orange, coconut, etc. But they don't like garden fruits. I know 'couse I rise up one squirrel 🐿️ and he never liked tomatos, carrots, celery, or things like that. And thinking about it, it makes sense, they live on trees and stay high most the time, so they prefer trees and their fruits. Good video , keep on the good work. 👍

Im growing toms in pots, and we were gettn hit by dome squirrels, and the fruit isnt even ready yet! They’ve been digging into the soil for stash spots of their food caches. For now, to remedy this problem, all i did was buy some 1/2”x1/2” hardware cloth and cut out two half circles, that when put to gether on top of the soil, covers the entire diameter of the pot. I cut out a sectionto allow the trunks to be free and clear of the hardware cloth by an inch or two. If and when the time comes, i may have to just cage them, to keep the birds and rodents away. I’ll try using other methods before i do that, tho. Thanks for sharing all that useful info. Aloha

Great video. I have saved it for future reference. My biggest pests are ring tail possums but I feed them in another part of the garden and this seems to help. Getting colder now in South Australia.

I'm looking forward to planting more varieties this year and having a bounty simply to enjoy, some for canning, and extra for sharing. Last year I had blossom end rot on my tomatoes early on and the leaf mold on my zuchinni at the end of the season. It's good to be armed in advance with knowledge on how to prevent these issues organically... and now I feel confident to have a slightly bigger garden that will be successful. It's very exciting for me! (Just waiting for frost date to pass, now.) These videos are so full of great info for new gardeners like myself, as well as experienced folks picking up new tips. Thank you for your dedication in sharing each Tomato Tuesday! Love the nod to Debbie Downer... hopefully she will stay in quarantine this year! 😂😂😂

Good timing on this video. I just started a neem/peppermint/soap regimen and hoping for good results. Can't prevent the sun/heat damage effectively (zone 9b) toss in some box elder bugs and my pole beans and peas look a bit rough, but still almost up to the trellis. ...if I can only get my tomatoe/pepper/eggplants to germinate.

For control of rats use peppermint oil. I use it in my shed and it solved my rat problem. I have also used it in my garden. I saturate a cotton ball with it and staple it to the sides of the raised beds. Also it's not the gray (tree) squirrels that are the problem with tomatoes but ground squirrels. They burrow underground and come up in the garden. We had to lay wire under all our raised beds and used animal fencing (where the height of the wire square gets smaller as you get closer to the ground.) The ground squirrels will still climb this until they can get thru so then we trap them and release them far away!

I just began growing tomato plants this year and I have been having a difficult time. I wish I would have seen this sooner, but at least for next year I'll know what to look for and how to treat it thank you. Those cutworms oh my gosh they have been a headache. So far I have not had problems with rodents or squirrels either, but I'm guessing maybe the cats in my area or the snake garden is helping. I just saw a snake garden today. I just scared it off since it was near where I planted my green onions.

On your recommendation I used Neem oil on powdery mildew on my melon plants last year and you were spot on, next day - gone! I’m using RANGO brand which is a very pure Neem oil extraction. If you use it note that it does crystallize below 50F (10C).
