Shock leaders are becoming a necessity when feeder fishing at distance and using stiff rods with heavy feeders, to reach distances of 80 metres+.
But what are shock leaders, how do they help the angler and how do I use and attach one? Well, Big Bird explains all and even gives you a step by step in how to attach one to your line!

Haha, cheers Phil, love the rallying call! I did have a few people mention about shock leaders and why they would use one and what it’s purpose is, and thought it would be nice to put a little film together with a step by step on what I feel is the best way to attach one… it has nothing to do with the fact I treated myself to a Daiwa Tournament Pro 136 Quiver-BU this Christmas 🤦🏻‍♂️ BB

Hey BB, great vid, I use this knot to attach a leader, any reason for the 4 turns through the loop? Or is it purely what ur comfortable with? Cheers

Hi Sav, great question… I find 4 turns a safe number and I’ve not (pun not intended) had an issue ever in this method… if I have a 15lb shock leader (thicker) I will always do 4 as a minimum, but if I get a lighter line with a thick leader, I may do 6 to 7 turns of the thinner line… I just try to match them up as best I can if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♂️ BB

Hi bb, just come across this video, happy with attachment of the leader, but what length would you say the leader should be ? Hope that makes sense ?
@FirstTimeFishing
@FirstTimeFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Great question Sav… the normal rule is 2 lengths of your rod… so if 12ft rod, use 24ft leader… however, I personally use 2.5 lengths of rod, but that’s just what I prefer 🤷🏻‍♂️ so I would use 30ft leader on a 12ft rod 👍🏻 gives me a little grace to cut off if it does break (very rare) or tangle (not so rare if you cast like me 😂) 👍🏻 BB

@@FirstTimeFishing thanks BB, makes complete sense. I’ve got more feeders in my local natural water than I’ve got in my feeder box, trust me. ☹️

@@savmunago5505 haha, that’s made me have a right chuckle mate… well hopefully they’ll stay on a bit longer with a leader… don’t know if you watched my distance feeder video… it was a good job I had a leader on that day… the snags were ridiculous, but luckily didn’t lose a feeder that day 🤦🏻‍♂️ BB

Switched to braid for the first time feeder fishing on Saturday and this is what I used (had a cracker of a day) but I also had the braid crack off at the clip(got both back thankfully), never had a crack off with mono...maybe it was because it wasn't the best quality braid, any thoughts?
