How to attach java fern to rocks, well simply put the best way is to glue them. This will hold them long enough for the roots to grab onto the rock and anchor it. When you attach java fern to rocks it gives you the ability to move them anytime you want to anywhere in the tank you choose.
Let me know down in the comments how you attach or are attaching your java ferns to rocks!
How To Plant Java Fern - Planting with Rhizomes • How To Plant Java Fern...
I am curious about this.
Are you all talking about super glue or aquarium glue?
I am always looking to learn something new. Which glue is safe to use in both fresh water AND salt water?
Is it as quick as it sounds? What's the catch? Sounds too simple.
I like simple. So long as it works!
I just glue the bottom of the rhizome and a few of the offshoot roots to whatever I'm sticking it on. Let it dry for half an hour and into the tank it goes. Doesn't need much glue unless you are putting the plant directly in a high flow spot.
Gorilla glue, the gel super glue, don't waste your time with standard superglue. Never glued plants but I've glued a lot of corals, I've even used it under water, just experiment, it's practice makes perfect I've found, but I swear by the stuff.
You need to glue down the rhizome. Not all of it necessarily, just at a few points, enough to secure it. You will probably need to snip off some of the roots to achieve this, that's fine, they will grow back. It's OK to glue the roots but it shouldn't JUST be roots that are glued down.
I've done it with great success several times now and will never go back to thread! Gel glue would make life easier but standard superglue works fine too, it's just a bit messier.
I use the gel type superglue all the time. It works perfectly and doesn't affect the fish at all. Reef guys use it to attach coral frags to live rock, so if they can use it, so can we
You definitely want to use gel super glue, the regular one simply dries too quickly. And yes, it's safe when dry and water actually speeding up the drying. Super glue worked the best for me. It's even good when you cut yourself to stop bleeding
I'm trying to anchor some java fern plantlets to a rock in my aquarium. I have them rubber banded on there, but I'm wondering if the rock is rough enough for them to attach. It has some sharp angles and such, but it isn't at all porous and doesn't have any cracks. Will the java fern be able to anchor?
pull the ferns out of the tank
gently pat them dry with a paper towel so they are just barely damp
do the same with the rocks (though you don't have to worry so much about being gentle with those ;))
set a rock in front of you
pick out a fern
bunch the stems together and hold it by the stems (not the rhizome! you'll get glue all over your hands if you do that)
squeeze a nice bead of superglue along the rhizome
quickly but gently press it into place on the rock and hold very, very still for at least 30 seconds
let it sit out for a minute or so
put it in the tank
enjoy
I super glued all my rhizomes on the driftwood, let it dry for an hour or so. I put as little as possible on the rhizome, held it down for a few seconds for it to set, dried and all was perfect. At first the leaves died, but after two months, they came back beautifully. Check out my 29 gallon, the narrow leaf java fern. I have to start selling them off it is growing so fast.
I've superglued Java fern to some rocks during a water change when the rocks were above water. Just took a paper towel, dried off the spot on the rock as best as I could, blew off as much water as I could off the plant, dropped a drop or two of cyanoacrylate on the rock, placed the plant, held it for about 10 seconds or so, then finished my water change. Less than 5 minutes after the plant was glued it was underwater again with no problems.
I think one important thing to note is to make sure you're gluing the rhizome rather than just some of the roots. You may need to trim some roots back to get at the rhizome.
Superglue has saved me in several instances! It's fantastic. I do the same as Alpinist. I just tap a towel on the driftwood so it isn't sopping wet, drop a bit of glue on the plant or wood and drop it back in the tank. If it is safe enough for saltwater where they spend sometimes thousands on fish and coral, it is safe enough for me. So far in my tank, no fish or shrimp has ever been harmed by superglue.
I ended up glueing them with the super glue. so far they seem to be doing fine and nothing has died yet. I just used a little bit on the edges of the rhizomes. let`s hope it stays there

So....hold down java fern on super glue gel for 30seconds and let sit for 1 minute before putting it in tank? Simple as that? Cheers :)

Great video. I too have glued Java Fern to rocks and driftwood. My question is how you were able to do it without glueing your fingers together? I have to use tweezers and still managed to get a little glue on myself.
@AquatikGuru
@AquatikGuru 3 жыл бұрын
I just don’t touch anywhere near the glue. You don’t need to shove the plant into it. It’s just gotta grab onto the rhizome enough to allow it to grow. Or I get glue all over my hands and pick it off later lol

I know this video is about Java ferns on to rocks but if i already planted it in substrate less than a week ago could i pull it up and then glue it to a rock or some drift wood?

Absolutely you can do that!

Can you use that method to not use in fish tanks. Would the rocks be porous enough do you think?
@AquatikGuru
@AquatikGuru 3 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a great question. And to be honest I’d think it would work with more porous rocks like lava rock.

Can I use bleach on the rocks and rinse very well so I don't introduce anything to my tank?
@AquatikGuru
@AquatikGuru 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely not. The bleach will absorb into the rock and leach into the tank. Best way to clean rocks is simply with water and a scrub brush. Boiling rocks is also unnecessary. I use the garden hose or a pressure washer. Some aquarium stones like dragon stone I leave the dirt in the stone so I don’t clean those at all. I’ve learned that the most important part, is knowing where the rocks came from.

Now is it true that it is best with java fern just to glue the roots down and not the rhizome

is it safe to put it to the aquarium right away? im kinda hesitant that it might kill my fishes
@AquatikGuru
@AquatikGuru 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is totally fine. The gel type super glue I used in this video dries very quickly. Once added to water, it hardens even more rapidly. That’s why you’ll notice me getting the glue wet after attaching the plants as it dries the glue faster.

For the most part yes. But I would recommend researching specific stones before using them as some stones contain “bad” minerals for fish

As long as it’s gel super glue the brand doesn’t necessarily matter. So long as the product itself is cyanoacrylate glue

@@AquatikGuru thank you so much for your reply mate. I have one more question. Please tell me what is the best basement for goldfish and tetras? Sand or gravel? I’m in a confusion. Please help me

Me personally, I enjoy sand much more. It’s much more of a natural feel. If I feel the need to add gravel, I just sprinkle pea pebbles around larger rocks to give again a much more natural appearance
