Am I the only one that watches these videos and thinks to himself, "...wish Tom was my grandpa, growing up..." :) Thanks Tom for the tip re: wetting each piece prior to tying the surgeon's knot; I'll see if it makes my experience more smooth.

Always good. Thank you Mr R

This way the leader also gets shorter every time you attach a new piece of tippet. Doesn't matter much if you only go through a few feet of tippet each season, then change your leader at the beginning of each season. When I start a new leader I clip off most of the tippet section and reassemble it with a tippet ring. I use a Pitzen knot for both leader to ring and tippet to ring.

How do you feel about using tippet rings? I find that the leader lasts longer and I can use a simple clincher knot to tie the tippet to the tippet ring. Using my hemostats, I can tie the clinch knot in about 30 seconds without my glasses.

Would a loop to loop knot work for these ?

When do you use surgeon's knot and when do you use a blood knot?

@newflyfisher3 жыл бұрын
you can tie to a new leader if it is the same size or smaller

Is using a tippet ring a good choice?
@newflyfisher3 жыл бұрын
yes, using a tippet ring is another good option for connecting leader to tippet

Does it tangle more?

I find this to be the most challenging thing to do in fly fishing. Only because I cant see lol Ive realized today I simply have to find cheap glasses I can carry with me because this is basically impossible for me to do without them.
