How To Attend Berkshire Hathaway 2023 Annual Meeting

I share everything you need to know with detailed information about how to attend this year's Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting in Omaha Nebraska that is happening during the weekend of May 6, 2023!
The Berkshire Hathaway 2023 Annual Shareholders Meeting AKA Festival is happening at the CHI Health Center convention center at 455 North 10th Street, Omaha, Nebraska, 68102.
In order to attend the annual Berkshire meeting, you should own at least one share of Berkshire Hathaway stock. It can be either in the form of the Berkshire A share ($460,000) or the Berkshire B share ($300).
The best way to attend is to be an actual Berkshire shareholder where you can get up to 4 meeting credentials. But if you are not able to be a shareholder, perhaps you know someone like a family member or friend who might be willing to give you a meeting credential.
Since past Berkshire Hathaway meetings have drawn crowds of 40,000 people, you want to be proactive and get your credentials ASAP.
You can get your meeting credentials by mail or by will call. If you don't have the credentials on you, you can go to the Will Call area in the CHI Health Center lobby with proof of ownership and photo ID.
The way to get the credentials ahead of time is via the proxy materials as part of being a shareholder, which were either mailed out to shareholders by mid March 2023 or as of March 21 they should appear in your brokerage account.
Then you need to locate the proxy materials in your brokerage account, my proxy documents were in a location called Shareholder Library then eDocuments. And there is an annual meeting credential order form that you should fill out and return to the address provided. You should receive the meeting credentials and a visitor's guide after about a week in my experience.
If you are having difficulties, reach out to your brokerage's Corporate Actions team or Berkshire's investor relations to help you locate the proxy materials.

Unlike 2022, it does not appear as though there are special health and safety requirements, so hopefully life is back to normal but it may also be a bit more competitive to get in this year.
I also go over the agenda of the weekend festivities, including the Berkshire Bazaar of Bargains on Friday, May 5, the actual meeting on Saturday, May 6, and the activities on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
The shareholder shopping is happening at the CHI Health Center Exhibit Hall, and there are discounts at Berkshire's subsidiaries like Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM) and Borsheims. I highly recommend the $5 BBQ Meal at the NFM Picnic.
The agenda for Berkshire's May 6 main event is as follows:
Doors Open 7am
Company Movie 8:30am
Question and Answer 9:15am-4:30pm *This is the main reason you come, to see Buffett and Munger share their wisdom!
Business Meeting 4:30pm
NFM Picnic 5:30pm-8pm
From first hand experience, I was able to bring a personal size backpack for all my souvenirs. I highly recommend the Heartland Bcycle to get around the cute city of Omaha on a speedy electric bike.
There are so many free investor events you can check out, I found that I didn't have to pay to attend any offshoot events.
The Berkshire Hathaway Meeting is one of the best experiences to be among likeminded investors. I'd just be grateful to see both Buffett, 92 going on 93, and Munger, 99, at least one more time. Hope to see you there!

I did the 5K charity run in 2019, thinking that I'd probably finish decently in my age category just by walking. It turns out that most of the people "competing" in the charity run are fairly fit, so I ended up in the bottom 10% for my age group. Some of the Buffett and Munger family members participate, but everyone looks the same in shorts and a jersey. If nothing else, the run is a good way to see Omaha.

I'm attending the meeting for the first time this year but I'm not sure how I would go about finding investor events hosted by various people and institutions in Omaha during that weekend. How did you come across those events last year? Are these events usually advertised somewhere? Thanks!

Thanks! Typically one hears about investor events by word of mouth or if you have favorite investors/asset managers. There are public events hosted by Mario Gabelli, Willow Oak, Markel, and more to name a few. Also if you hang out at the Hilton there are some cool investors there too. Also Creighton University may host its Value Investing Panel. Keep looking around for announcements from investors on Twitter or join up with certain communities (like The Investors Podcast Network's Berkshire activities). Hi Michelle. It's good that I stumbled upon your post for the meeting this coming Saturday. You mentioned about just eating ice cream for lunch. Do they not have a meal ticket for where you'll get your food? I read somewhere that the food gets sold out quickly. Do they also have a lot of food booths? Are we allowed to bring food from restaurants outside the venue? Thanks.

They also have stadium fast food like burgers/hot dogs but the lines were much longer than for the Dairy Queen ice cream which was also much cheaper haha. I don't think there's a lot of food booths. You can probably "sneak" in some food/snacks, just don't make it too obvious. You can also exit the meeting and yes there's restaurants/bars in the area too. Good luck!

I was delighted that you mentioned the e-bicycles, because I was wondering how will I get around Omaha. Unfortunately, It looks like the place I am renting is not in proximity to any E-bike stations. Do you think that renting a vehicle is a smart idea? My guess is that the rent-a-car prices will go up significantly during the May 6th weekend. Yes renting a car might be worthwhile since the average rates I saw a while ago were about $55-60 per day. There may be surge pricing (especially on Saturday or to/from airports) with ubers/lyfts, and it may just be convenient to get a rental or split the cost with others. You have to download the proxy materials in your brokerage if you own a Berkshire share and mail the shareholder meeting credentials form into the Berkshire address, then you get the credentials in about 1-2 weeks after.

@@user-bf8jt4qc2q If your friend received the meeting credential order form and they mailed it in to request for up to 4 meeting credentials/tickets, then they could share one with you. The tickets are free but if you can't get them shipped you have to show up at Will Call with your personal ownership of the shares with your photo ID. Your friend would have to show up if she or he wants to also get their tickets with the proof/ID. Hope this helps!

Pretty sure people could even buy the share the day before as long as you can show proof of share ownership in your brokerage account and provide photo ID, I think you'll be OK! Others have mentioned just showing their brokerage app on their phone, but I like paper proof if I had to go to Will Call. Good luck!

Hi there, I am pretty sure you can simply buy one share at least right before you were to present proof at Will Call. You need only proof of share ownership and a photo ID to show at Will Call if you read the visitor's guide at the Berkshire website. It explains that you can still get the physical credentials if you go to the Will Call. I don't think electronic credentials exist. Good luck!

Otherwise, meeting credentials may be obtained at the meeting by persons identifying themselves as shareholders as of the record date. Possession of a proxy card, a voting information form received from a bank or broker or a broker’s statement showing shares owned on March 8, 2023 along with proper identification will be required." Not sure if that means the shares should be owned before March 8th.

You're welcome Fernando! That's great to hear! I've previously been in line in the central door but I think certain famous investors may have lined up in the south entrance before. There are likely stairs that lead to the main arena seating throughout, so you can't go too wrong. It may be a matter of preference / if you have friends who want to go into certain entrances. Maybe check out an arena seating map and try to identify where you'd like to end up and hopefully that will guide your decision. Good luck and say hi if you see me!

Hi Michelle, I really appreciate what you have sharing in the video. I am a freshman in Hong Kong University and this is my first time to attend the meeting. I bought BRKB in 4th April on App (so I don't have a broker), and I bought the credentials from eBay (since I'm afraid it will be too late for BRK to send to me). However, I wonder how can I register the Photo Proof as I am flying to Omaha tomorrow? Is there any website I can register myself in or I have to go to the Will Call? You're welcome! I have not had to personally go to Will Call myself so I cannot give you the final word on whether a recent statement would suffice. I would suggest calling your brokerage and asking them to provide you with enough documentation. One international friend had a "confirmation of holding" letter that showed his name, address, and accompanying share amounts of BRKB he owned. Whether it's a statement or other document, I think as long as you cover the above criteria most likely you will be set. Good luck and hope you have a great time at Berkshire! Say hi if you see me!

@@trading8310 From my understanding, proof of ownership can look like a brokerage statement or app or otherwise demonstrate that you own Berkshire stock and it has your name also on there. I think it's a good idea to print out the statement that shows the shares and your name/address because you'll need to show photo ID at will call. Yes, you need credentials to get in to the meeting whether you sit in the stands or on the ground floor. You should aim to get the credentials the day before on Friday at will call if you can so you save time.
