I need help. We live on a 1st floor apartment. Our neighbor on the 2nd floor just moved in and uses an owl decoy which has affected birds to come visit our beautiful patio, bird feeders and bird bath. Can you give me advice on how we can get the birds to return to our bird haven.

Rhonda, We have observed that, with time, local birds learn that the owl decoy is inanimate. How long has the decoy been up? Also, songbirds like nearby cover. Are there shrubs near the feeders? I’m curious why your neighbor put one up. Did s/he have birds sitting on their railing? Best regards, Chris

@@CoastalKingdom Thank you for responding Dr Marsh - Both husband and I were excited to see your response. We recognized the decoy up for 3 weeks (could have been longer). Also, we have noticed our birds (including hummingbirds) have been returning - we are so excited to see them again. We believe the woods have provided them more fresh seeds and privacy, so we do not see as many as in early spring; but we feel that’s expected. Woods are approximately 75 yards from our patio. We have an L-shaped patio with short shrubs around the railing. (I can send pictures if you’d like to see). Possibly we can pot some type of patio trees; but in the meantime, last year I planted honeysuckles to give them a place of privacy; since our hard winter, our honeysuckles haven’t come out yet; so, we are trying to think of creative ideas to encourage them to feel safe. In the early spring there were many birds; also sitting on her railing we believe. Awaiting your response (humbly thankful).

@@Lovelybrnfemale Insects to feed fledglings will be their main food through July. Providing a shallow birdbath on the ground near cover should also attract birds. Good luck!
