You could also use VBA to code to a macro, or even record one, and assign it to your own custom key combo or create a custom button in the shortcut bar at the top of the window. I have been using it for years and have it programed for control + shift + T and I love it. You can do the same for any repetitive task. Learn VBA, it's wicked easy, and crazy powerful and you can impress many people. I get bonuses at work for taking task that take people minutes to hours to do and get it to happen almost instantly by clicking a single button or using custom commands.

Oh forgot to add. For my shortcut mentioned earlier, i have it also center the text vertically and horizontally. It then checks the current state of the visibility of the gridlines and turns them off if they are on. After that it also selects any cells with a value and puts a full thin border around each cell and a thick boarder around any groups of cells with values. All this within seconds, but usually less then a second. Only time it takes a couple seconds is when you have very large data sets that are broken into many small groups.

Another option - I have autofit on my Quick Access Toolbar. I can select whatever group of rows or columns I want, then click on that button on the QAT and itks done. The QAT is a greatly undervalued resource (maybe worth featuring in one of your videos, Leila?).

But what if you have 1k columns and 50k rows, you decide the maximum value you want your width to be is 30 and then need all data in your 1k columns to wrap to fit rather than going back and selecting those (x) number of columns your data might spill rather than wrapping? Quickest option than selecting those columns since you have a maximum column width preset would to be select the whole worksheet and double click row divider: Poof. Autofit will only work for standard height/width along with adding wrap when you don't want or at a given width smaller/greater than you'd like to space number of spaces.

Morale of the story is it's not going to do same intent, exactly as her shortcut of randomly double-clicking divider as the autofit double-clicking does is to bring to to the widest widths as if you're simply setting up a header row, which great, lock you cell dimensions then once your data is input you can unlock and only autofit rows, but either way hers and yours arent complete when you have long string of data in any given cell and try and autofit.

What I've used: click anywhere in Col A; Scroll to rightmost column and shift-click on column letter-this selects all the columns. Then double-click on right border line of the Col letter. Eg Col H is rightmost, double-click on the border line to the right of the letter H.

But then you're simply adjusting every column you've selected left of column H to the maximum autofit width of column H: What she's doing is selecting and autofitting EVERY column to the autofit width of each column collectively and what excel sees best fit for a given worksheet. Pretty different.

Do data in A1-C1, put a longer statment into C1, follow your suggestion and see how big A1 & B1 become, then ctrl-z, ctrl-a twice to select the whole sheet, and double click the divider for any column on a through c to see how each column will autofit for their given maximum widths.

Great tip-- I actually use this quite often in my work. One word of caution, though. Sometimes I have a header or cell entry that spans over a couple of columns and I want the column width to fit to the data entries below, not some header information that might be lurking above. In those cases, I manually fit the first column or two, then autofit the rest.

There is a small difference: Double-click on the column interface adjusts the width for the entire column. Autofit from the Ribbon adjusts the column width only for selected cells (useful when there is long text above the table column, such as a table caption).

That's.... not possible how you wrote that: "Autofit from the Ribbon adjust the column width only for the selected cells..." No, if you select a5:a10 and do autofit, it will autofit the entire column to the autofit of the larger cells, not just for the selected cells leaving a default width to the rest. It is the exact same thing as double-clicking the divider in this scenario. I feel you're trying to explain something but just not grasping it fully between the two, or missing context/not articulating correct, so feel free and give that another swing if it's worth it.

I like to use compounds for this as I am not a one or the other type (as I think the many ways to the same result which is a regular pattern in Excel) where you force yourself to either keyboard shortcuts or GUI input, I personally like to hold ctrl for A TWICE while moving toward the column or row divider so when I get to one or the other I need, poof, double click to avoid the added keystrokes. Two birds stoned at the same time.

Text-To-Columns PowerQuery is overkill but you could do it in steps, for sure, easiest being transpose to columns with comma being your delimiter, but then you're going to likely have fun if the 5th and 6th dataset aren't always 4 digits vs 3. If they're always 5th/6th being 4 digits then yeah, do it as transpose steps in PowerQuery. Either way, entirely wrong video for your question

Search for sample questions for interviews/uses in your given field for Excel, then seek answers you don't know how to do, are fuzzy, or to find updated over the years (like xlookup vs h/v/standard lookups) as well as sunset functions since many have been let go (though many sunset still work in 365 like TEXTJOIN), then once you explore the questions/use in day-to-day and grasp the legacy/latest functions because you can use many embedded or in different scenarios like I use IFS statements embedded in an IF statement with conjunctions all within multiple xlookups and then IFERRORS and IF "" statements, laugh, lookup test data with mock scenarios as many sites house the same roleplay scenarios anyone will experience using the majority of these. Do as many of these as you can, at least a dozen times to be COMFORTABLE, seek more examples than one source on how to use, then finally I'd suggest exploring the Microsoft certifications should you feel necessary to bolster your ability to speak to all the uses in a given role you'd personally use, as well as advanced functions you start to see a future use so you could talk about not only what you may or will use, your abilities and use case thus far, but how you could integrate advanced functions and perhaps further innovate and add value to the knowledge and use already being applied. I think with enough practice and confidence knowing the relevant use case for any role in your field you wouldn't NEED the certs but they could NEVER hurt you to have and be a confirmation of your knowledge direct from Microsoft

It doesn't autofit all columns to their own respective maximum width but rather the column your choosing to autofit, so if you've selected A,B,C, and D and double-click the divider for B, it will autofit column B to the maximum width but the width will be no greater than this for any other cells and only match that width, so if you had a wider column to fit one row without wrap for C, it will not display all the data in C; transversly true where if you had 10 characters in B as max width but in A only had 3 character, you're going to now have a wider column than necessary to show only 3 characters. What she's using is autofit for ALL columns to their own respective maximum width

So I just tried it and try to put it in words again... maybe we mean the same: When you select single columns and make them auto fit by double clicking any of the headers, Excel (2016/desktop - what's what I am working with) will auto fit each selected column to its maximum length. Example: grid with 2 rows and 6 columns: A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I ABC,ABCDEF,ABCDEFGH,ABC,ABCDEF,ABCDEFGH,ABC,ABCDEF,ABCDEFGH 1. Make all the columns A to I very small. 2. Select column A,E,I and do the double click action for auto fitting. Result: A will be sized to fit 3 chars, E to fit 6 chars and I to fit 8 chars.
