For my XJ I put in a time delay relay so I flip that switch on and it stays on until I turn it off. When I turn the switch off, the time delay activates and keeps my fan running for one minute whether the engine is on or off. Works great!

Good work. I appreciate the content and fun commentary. One thing to help others - that "aluminum" wire to the temperature "probe" is actually a tube that carries pressurized alcohol, so you CAN'T cut it OR kink it. If you do, then you just wasted the controller, because itll never work again. I find it best to leave most of the aluminum tube coiled up as it was in the box, and only unwind what is needed to get to the radiator. And i like how you just mount the "sensor" end inside the top hose protective shrouding. Extra points for use of Duck Tape. I've replaced the burned diode pack that is factory hard wired into my '90 xj a few times.

Great video, I have been enjoying my setup like this for a long time. I wire tied the probe to the hose too. I did a relay and kept the oem connection but through the relay so when the thermostat switch triggered it closed the relay to enable the thermostat.

Nice, and likely cheaper than a W1209 temperature control circuit board, a water tight project box and a relay fused with a few add-a-fuses. I've never done this, it just came to mind watching your video.

Hey dex something I haven’t seen yet on KZbin or good information online is the difference in Dana 30 axles that come underneath Cherokees. Iv swapped out a set that had 373 gears and went to change the brake calipers and they were very different from what was originally on my 98 wasn’t to sure if I could take the bracket off and “update “ them or if I’m kinda stuck with what it is. Anyways just a video idea. I would of thought they were all the same but guess they are not

When I replaced my XJ 4.0 radiator, I didn't reinstall the electric fan or shroud. It always runs at 210° on the temp gauge. If you have a leaking heater core, check out how I fixed it on my yt channel. It's still working for a few years now!

On the older cherokee the flat plug is a delphi weather pak 2 pin connector easy to get And you said you didnt know that fan controller works that pill part has a mecury like substance in it and when it gets hot it expands back up the tube and completes a circuit in the controller

Center bolt a pain to line up on passenger side but i got it couple taps of the hammer and lifting engine way higher than i wanted to, wasn’t impossible but definitely a sketchy process

10 years ago I had a trailblazer that I put a lift and 32 on. It got shitty mileage. The Internet told me to take mechanical fan off and use a electric fan. I forgot to turn it on and smoked the engine. If only I had 20 bucks and watched this video ....

So, my XJ’s (2000)fan does come on auto, is there a year gap where they don’t? Or do some just break?

@@nathanhyland910 same here. By crawling I mean going slow in 4LO uphill, everything working hard and no airflow. Flip the fan on and the temp needle stays a good half tick left of 210 the whole time.

@KCsRefurbs2 ай бұрын
Yes or make adjustable but run lower temps which these run to hit cause other problems. Plus motors get hotter when you shut them off etc if wires like this it run for like 10 minutes when you shut it off to avoid this problem just make sure battery good and not weak reserve capacity etc
@kevinstott13172 ай бұрын
That's a bummer. Mine kicks on at 210 or with high pressure on AC. But I've also noticed it creep up after turning off like he mentioned. Either way glad there are videos like this that keep me learning

If it does it when ac is on it could be the compressor is short cycling on and off triggering the electric fan. Usually means it's low on Freon.
