what bout things that are plugged in but not running like the microwave, it has a clock on it. same with the stove. This happen at my work a few weeks ago, The generator gave power for some lights but the other lights were dimly lit but were flickering because they are fluorescent, microwave clock was also barely showing but it was still showing the time, just very dim.

My understanding has always been that as long as an electric motor (like a furnace-A/C blower motor, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer) IS NOT RUNNING, it can be left plugged in during a low voltage brown out. The same apply's to anything with a compressor (refrigerator, freezer. air conditioner).

@@proclaimliberty2000 Let me know if you can please by way of reply. I have an older house with fuses. My starter relay switch keeps going out on my refrigerator. I am not sure if it's because of surges or brownouts . It seems like every 4-5 months I have to replace a starter relay switch. Do you have any suggestions ? I subscribed and give you a thumbs up. Thanks Keith

They make appliance -protectors that whether high or low turn the appliance off. Built in timer keeps it off for 3 minutes.

Well crap!....you told us all about these pesky brown outs but nothing how to protect from them besides turning off breakers! I would suspect the damage would already be done by the time you a- notice it and b- turn off breaker! Isnt there anything else that can be done???

Ther is a Solution for this situation, an automatic relay that cuts power to the Breakers in case of Under or Over Voltage, Values are Programmable Mine Cut If Voltage goes Under 100 or Over 130 for more than one-tenth of a second. Also, every 10 Seconds check the line to see if it's ok to go back and I established a 40 Seconds delay after detected Normal Voltage to reestablish current. I put 2 of this on my Electric Panel and a Surge Protector to be full protected against Utility Issues even If I am Sleep or not at home. Devices can be Found on Ebay for 18 Dolars. 63A80A 110V230V Din rail adjustable over under voltage protection Voltmeter
