I doing a violin audition today, and I keep plucking and playing extra strings and it sounds bad, so this helped immensely. I have been playing for a couple years, and My dumb brain realized I kept sliding down the finger board

I hate when that happens, crunching with time on violin! but what do I know, I'm not very good technically (yet?) ... and majored in piano before I played violin and switched ultimately in the end probably. You've really got to be together on such an instrument! it seems. I also have been singing a lot these past years alone and used to be in church choirs since age 8 until college mostly. ... You know, I used to have to play music for masses learned on that day I think, know violinists are good with new music? I was in high school then, too, but oh it was fake book style is why!

Thanks for your great video. I am just learning violin, and I have noticed, that it's easier to aim at the desired string if bowing with the farthest part of the bow (closer to tip). While it does not yield the best sound, the lever is longer, thus the bow angle is more stable, also while the arm is more extended the anlge is better felt by the muscles, it gets sort of more obvious and easier to get used to and to remember. Also, when the arm is extended, the only means of controling angle is elbow, no chance to do it wrong (wrist, for example). When I excercise, I first start bowing like that, then slowly progress to the middle of the bow. The arm gets used to correct angle, and it gets better. )

Glad you liked it! And you are right, much easier to play close the the tip. But remember to practice in all locations, near the frog as well!

I see what you're saying, but do you think it's a bad idea to intentionally play closer to the fingerboard to make it more of a challenge, and thus maybe make your bow arm even neater?
