Panic when trading. www.financial-s... PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! We know that panic drives markets but we don't want emotions to rule our trading. In this video we talk about panic. There is an emotional trigger inside you that has made you fearful and wanting to close your position or entering a trade due to fear of missing out with no regard to the current price. Redoing.
Let's suppose you've taken a long position with a standard stop loss. Our stop gets triggered but for some reason our position hasn't been stopped. So we've uncomfortable but we're not panicking yet. The correct thing to do is to exit your trade manually and move on but some don't do that. The trade continues losing money and our loss has doubled and we get increasingly worried. When the stop increases to multiple times our original stop loss level panic starts setting in. We are in a situation we don't want to be in because we didn't have a risk management system in place. You can avoid all this by managing your risk. You don't let yourself trade from an emotional perspective because as soon as you do you give up full control of your trading.

This should be one of the first videos a beginner should watch. I've learnt that there is never a shortage of trade opportunities, but the vast majority of people do have a shortage of capital (money). Hence, manage your risk first because trade opportunities will keep on coming - you have to be in it to win it.

I've certainly been in the 'fear of missing out' phase where I've entered trades at a price further away from my planned entry because price never retraced that far back. I then entered anyway, only to find out that I'd essentially entered at the peak and price re-traced to the original point of my entry. I've never been in the first part where I have no stop or move it away from price on a failing trade. What I have done though, which I did only the other day, is move my stop too tightly in a successful trade in the fear of losing the small profit I'd made.... only to see price retrace and hit my stop then turn and carry on substantially in the direction of my original trade. So for me panic is the fear of losing what I've already made. I'm dealing with that now, but you have to live it to learn in my opinion. Your videos are great by the way.

I enter in entry exit and stop in excel and excel calculates my position size for stop loss distance, so that i only risk 0.5 to 1% of my account. Because let's face it the stop loss is always different because it should be set to a level where it invalidates your trade

Thanks! THIS happened to me twice last week and wiped my account. The 2nd time I didn't have that much money and the margin got called and wiped me out. I am starting over now. The account wasn't huge because I've been trading futures for 3 weeks, but it really hurt me. I'm nervous to start again to be honest. I wasn't using a stop loss because I didn't want to get stopped out and lose even more money. I'm going to trade micro futures and only one contract...I was adding 2 or 3 contracts in the micros and when it crashed, it hurt. didn't think the micros would hurt so much but they kept crashing with no end in site.

Very useful video. I've had nasty ones before, but never did commit to improve 100%. Just day before was caught in another one again. I played smartass and hedged it - momentum was such that even the hedge went against me. This time thank heavens the position size wasn't large. I am determined to eliminate this behavior.

So thats the panic that fuels those aggresive moves to the downside. Thats why the downside Is generally more aggresive than the upside, because the feeling of loss Is more intense than the feeling of profit. That emotional cycle Is reflected in price, the market Is made out of people winning AND losing money

My exchange makes me choose between having a stop loss or a sell order, but not both lol so i dont even set limit sell orders anymore, i just raise my stop with the price, helps to make 100% sure ill never suffer a catastrophic loss like this again. LOL

One way to over come this is to honour the stop at all times, or, if you do get caught by a sudden market move try and ensure you've only 1% of your account at risk.

I lost 60% of my capital when I was in panic and stressed in my life. Now I feel so bad that I lost almost 2 years salary because of emotional trading and very volatile stocks. If I didnt sell, I would take a way smaller loss now. Now I have to make almost 150% just to breakeven :(

This reminds me that evening when cable price was around 1.27 bouncing off and I was buying and adding to my losing position from 1.29. I remember I saw price bouncing nicely near 1.27 then coming back down again. That was the moment I took out the trade with quite an heavy loss, because the possibilities to see price recovering literally vanished. The following morning I found price near 1.24, but only when I ran the platform I realised I closed my trade just few candles before the beginning of the wave down ended in the flash crash to 1.15. Assuming my stop loss in 1.26 would have been filled some 300 pips lower, would have killed my account. That was the last time I executed a trade with more than 50 pips stop loss. I now execute with 10 to 15 pips. The lesson is simple: you could be the best trader in the world, you execute the trade with a default 400 pips SL, and few seconds later something comes and flashes 500pips in 5minutes -> killed. SL must be set tight by default. Always. Im working in trying to figure out how to control my emotions..... maybe I found a way but it's really really not simple, and I'm sure the ones who can truly manage the emotional part of trading are the only profitable ones.
