I used to have this problem and I still have to be careful that I don't have too many trades open at any one time. The main reason we are overtrading is FOMO - i.e. Fear of Missing Out. We want to take that trade because we believe it could be a good winner and we want to express that by putting risk on the table. But overtrading can get so bad that it could end up your trading career. Unfortunately this problem is very common amongst day traders and swing traders alike.
How to fix it? Have a trading plan and set limits and just accept that you will lose a lot of opportunities. The whole point is to get the very best trading opportunities. Limit the total amount of 'acceptable net loss' you are willing to take. Another strategy you can do is to end the day after a certain number of wins.

Yep... This is killing me. I make money, then turn around and loose it and to make matters worse, go negative for the day. To top it off I repeat the same thing the next day after chastising myself about the problem. I know my problem, I know that I can make money, but can't keep myself from repeating my mistake.

The worst is when you go up on the day and try to go up more than end up red then try to dig your way back out and end up deeper in the red not willing to accept it and stop for the day.

i trade for 9 months. only the last month i decided on a golden rule 1-2 trades per day on one pair and thats that. 78% accuracy on my past 18 trades dont think i am ever going back to overtrading. when one day the account is big enough i am gonna change that golden rule to 1-2 trades per week. guys you just have to do it, trust me

Thank you for this video. I watched a similar video you made about the same subject. You recommended taking 1 trade per day to fix over trading. That advice works so well. It has made me much more selective and patient. I don't give my profits away anymore. My losses are more manageable because I don't revenge trade. If I take a small profit, I don't trade more out of greed. I leave with a small profit and I look forward to the next trading day. Thank you for all your advice over the years.

Great vid. and yep certainly been a casualty of FOMO .) The most effective thing I’ve found to keep this in check is pretty boring unfortunately -get good quality sleep so you’re more centred and rational the next day .. Then wake early bang your head phones on and bombard yourself with gratitude appreciation tracks before rising for an hour. Result- you realise you are so fortunate and have tons of good stuff in your life already .. -anything else is just a bonus and gravy on top= (Almost) zero fomo - How can you feel like you’re missing out when you realise you already have the most important stuff in your life?Missed it?who gives a toss!😊

Great content. One suggestion, on a good day, when you are winning on multiple trades, already made a substantial profit, reduce your hand size, as soon as you start to loose, then after 2 or 3 losses, stop trading and wait for another day. By doing this you will loose a small part of your day profit and dont feel bad for giving back all, or more than half, of your daily profit.

Excellent video - I can relate 100% - there is a saying that says don’t pity the loser but the person trying to recoup his losses ! That is a dangerous game- I like the number of trades per day strategy and looking back I make a bundle when the set up is good and I press it hard only to give it back on non event days - I strongly believe the inflection point between being in the top 3% of retail traders is to overcome FOMO and stay focused - best way to start on that journey is to trade less ! Same here with the over trading problem. I get FOMO. I'm not satisfied with my current gains and want more. Today I made $1500 and it didn't seem to be enough. Lost it all of course from over trading. I repeat this over and over. I've improved some but not enough.

What I do to protect from overtrading is I have a set max number of trades a day and each trade has the same amount of risk and RRR. This also helps guard against other inconsistencies that are counterproductive.

Hi Mate, Thanks for the well presented educational video. My two main concerns about trading are over trading (which you addressed well in the above video) and Fear. I am a currency trader and I trained my mind to pick and choose the setups which meets my criteria but I am feeling fearful after entering the trade and when the price moves half way in the intended direction. I often fear that the price may come back and I may end up loosing money I already made. So, I exit the trade with little profit only to regret to see the price hits my target eventually in the next few candles. May I request you to make a video on handling fear please. Thanks.

Hi Bro, Your videos or nice ....I am already using some Money management rules such as 2 percent for trade and 1:3 profit ratio. I need a small clarification from you. For example. Liked everything except the idea of being intuned with the market....Thats the same fallacy of thinking that a basketball player with 5 3's in a row is going to make a 6th. It mathematically does not exist. It is only a psychological construct. Ones never intuned with the market even if you are making accurate predictions. The market is to big and chaotic for that to be possible. We just so happen to get lucky enough to notice a couple of obvious moves in the same day. No different from heing lucky enough to have looked down and saw 4 quarters on the floor when usually you only would have noticed 2. My biggest issue with overtrading was thinking i was intuned with the market. I would think something was a sure thing because it was resonable. Nothing is reasonable in the market lol.

I think overtrading can be simply solved by one solution! Understand that when you enter into a trade you are risking the money” so do not enter into a trade simply because you believe or think it’s the right choice! But enter into a trade at least an hour of analysis and understanding of the price action! Remember trading means risking and losing money

If you keep look at the chart for sometime the chart will reveal the price action and you will be able to enter into a safe trade with a stop loss and you won’t be greedy as well
