Thank you that was great advice. This has happened to a close family member of mine, thankfully this time, the scammers didnt get away with the money. On another point you mentioned: I am looking to buy property at the moment and I'm finding that I am told I have to have an appointment to view a property on a 15 minute basis. People arrive and go whilst I'm looking at a property which from my point of view is highly irritating and pressurises me into getting out of the door as quick as I can. I know why they do it, to create a sense of urgency so that you'll offer quickly and they make their money asap! Is there anything I can say when im offered 15 minutes other than I wont play along with their game and lose out. I spend longer than 15 minutes doing a food shop for £50!! Nevermind spending a quarter of a million on a property I am only allowed 15 minutes to view. I have sold and bought houses over the past 20 years 5 times so I have an idea as to what to query in a property....the agents who let you into the property never seem to know anything about the history of it or about the sellers!

I work in a bank and have come across that Friday afternoon scam. Definitely call your solicitor before transferring your funds, don't trust email

Why is the housing market like an auction? The price on the on the window should be the price you pay not opened up to offers of more !!!like I said before you don’t go into a pub and the price for a pint is £5:50 and the bartender pulls you pint puts it on the bar then shouts across the room to see if anyone else wants to pay more for it !!! What’s actually going on here ????

True, I've seen on nearest offer advertised on some listings, people go to make an offer and it's sometimes £30k OVER advertised price? If only I could sell cars that way...

Phil do you have any advice for a first time buyer on the proposed 95% LTV Gov. backed mortgages they are offering soon? Do you think as a result of this + stamp duty extensions house prices will continue to rise or plateau? I can tell prices near me have risen quite considerably since pre-covid 2020. Cheers

A month before the 1st lockdown, made an offer on a property, being marketed by a very well known national estate agent. The agent told me that he could not put my offer to the vendor until I had had an appointment with their mortgage advisor. When I said I already had a financial advisor that had an outline mortgage arranged, they said they needed to be sure it was an affordable and legitimate offer. Disgusted, I decided to knock on the door of the vendor and make my offer in person and explain what the agent was doing. It appeared that the agent was trying to string things out so that he could sell the property together with another in the same street for a deal to a developer.

@@fir8550 sadly nothing that I know of, my mortgage adviser called the estate agent and had a flaming row with them. Nothing came of my complaint and suddenly both properties were sold. The property is shown on rightmove, as having sold slightly above my offer!! Apparently there is very little that can be done to stop this behaviour.

@@prodriveress Very sad. I'm surprise the estate agent did not report the individual to the police for fraud. He has probably been doing it to other customers. But, I'm glad it went well for you in the end.
