Nice video. Some people call babyproofing creating a "Yes space" (a space where your baby can freely explore and play without the need to tell them "no"). I think that's kind of a nice way of thinking about it.

Just a heads up for the baby gates. Do NOT use a pressure mounted gate at the top of stairs! It doesn’t matter how tight it is installed, if an adult leans on it, it can tip over! We have a terrifying indecent where my 1 year old was crawling up the steps and my husband accidentally leaned onto the baby gate at the top of the stairs and he AND the baby gate fell on top of our baby! Please read all the instructions with whatever baby gate you buy. No pressure mounted gates are allowed to go at the top of stairs. They’re for hallway use only

I baby proofed as we needed. Basically we followed our oldest around to find the things she would touch and baby proofed that. So a lot of the things you mentioned we didn't need to do because she was just not interested in touching them. This helped save a lot of money on certain things that would have not been helpful.

I love this video! One thing I will say is be careful with retractable gates! My daughter was able to figure out how (by pushing and pulling she fandangled it open) and almost took a tumble down the stairs. Make sure the retractable gates aren’t easy for a toddler to push and pull to open. It might’ve been a wicked fluke but I’m glad her mother and I were paying enough attention we stopped her as soon as the gate swung open

The retractable Momcozy I have (as well as the one he links) has an extra safety lock switch, which keeps one-way tension on the gate and prevents it from being opened. Still, I use that for the bottom of the stairs, and a metal gate at the top.

no way id put a retractable gate at the top of the stairs, you're practically asking for your baby to push and lean on it, and they can 100% fall through the bottom gap with some pressure.

Sorry but I hate my Nanit I took your advice as well as many others and bought it and it was the worst purchase I made, not only does the connectivity suck ( and I have great internet) but also my child rips it right off the wall, like why would you make a camera that goes along side of the crib where the baby can pull the cord right off and strangle himself with it, and for the price of it, it should have came with a separate monitor. I always have to use my phone to check on him I know I can use an iPad but I really don’t use my iPad and it’s always dead. just my opinion but don’t recommend Nanit to anyone. I can buy a separate mount and move it but what’s the point for that price I shouldn’t have to buy any other mounts or products. Besides that nice baby proofing advice.
