Blender 3.6 freezes on my laptop and I can't see the bake status of a particle animation with force fields. I also can't stop it. I already had the settings you shown, but in task manager, the resource usage would not go up at all. Am I missing something? Hardware specs below: I have a laptop with i7 12th gen, RTX 3050 Ti and 32 GB RAM 4800 MHZ

This doesn't work, when you look at the task manager only the CPU works (100% usage) while the GPU remains at minimum. Ryzen 5600 and RTX 3060TI here.

It still bakes with CPU. I was said that baking textures is CPU only?

Oddly, Blender already had my GPU checked off by itself by default. However it was still rending with the CPU and even the baking settings were set to GPU Computer. But when I unchecked GPU option, then checked it on again, it started rendering with the GPU and now my bakes take under 10 seconds.

Ah THAT'S why it was so slow, holy SHIT it's fast now. I'm sure adjusting my render samples helped as well, didn't know that's what effected bake samples too. Thanks man, I'm doing a project stylized to look like a cheap SEGA Saturn game, so I'm using almost exclusively baked image textures. I don't know how many overall, collective hours of throttled bake time you just saved me.

another tip. set your x and y tile size to the exact same size as your image, it bakes even faster. if you happen to be baking 8k textures maybe dial it down to half that

I think it even works on 3.5. But I'm not entirely sure. On Optix the GPU fans won't spin, on Cycles they do. The GPU stays pretty much low on power regardless, but seems it's doing something at least.

this is actually a great tip. i was using optix instead of cuda and the bake button doesn't show up at all when selecting GPU. and silly me thought blender can't bake using gpu
@AlexPearce3d3 жыл бұрын
It's not silly you, it's silly blender for not letting us know! If you have Optix checked there should be a text where bake should be that says "to bake with gpu, switch to Cuda". It's like a secret that a few people like me accidently figured out :(
@neatpolygons85003 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPearce3dthere's a message under Optix that says "some cycles features aren't available yet in optix" I think that includes baking

Yeah that's not good enough though, in my opinion. Especially for a crucial action like baking.

I've got to try this. I normally avoid Blender because I can't get past the modeling UI (I'm coming from Modo and Maya primarily), and normally do all of my bakes in Substance Painter. However, what happens when you need to bake a light map of a very complex texture? I wind up spending ungodly amounts of time in Modo trying everything I can to not have to spend hours waiting for something that's unusable. I'm really hoping that this works a lot easier and more importantly faster than what I've been doing with CPU-based bakers.
