Glad you mentioned "rotating the tire on the wheel". I've seen way too many times. The yellow mark balancing a tire on the opposite side of the valve! Yep, that wouldn't be a first. Even on, so called, reputed brands like Pirelli. Your example of 20 gr. to balance such a small tire. Would have me rotating the tire right away. To try and find a better spot. 🙂 Cheers

Excellent video! See people, this is how things are done properly and correctly. If you think you can just put some "balancing beads" in your tires and your wheels will be balanced you are going to find yourself falling for many scams in life. Again, excellent video.

I have a icebear scooter and my rims are custom painted So I did not want to put weights on the outside of my rims . So I looked in to counteract glass balancing beads for motorcycle. They worked out great for me and give me a very smooth ride at all speed's. Note I run 12" rims and high speed tires.

On the taotao atm50, which if I remember right is the brand you have here, is there supposed to be a set of spacers on the rear wheel? A short one and a tall one? Getting a metal rubbing squeaking noise while riding in time with speed..
@49ccscoot8 жыл бұрын
Mine is just the wheel and a nut. Spacers are usually for dual shock setups, which the ATM50 should not be.
@christothegreat18 жыл бұрын
+90GTVert Good point, how about adding a second shock to the rear, plus foot pegs, for the purpose of not bottoming out while your gf is riding with you on the seat behind you. Would this be smart from a mechanical engineering perspective to carry around 300-400 pounds vs the 250 or so stated in the owners manual?

Is the most common heavy spot on a scooter tire is where the valve stem?
@49ccscoot2 жыл бұрын
That's the most common heavy spot on the wheel, but doesn't mean that's always it.
@crpth1 Жыл бұрын
Tip: Given the chance check the balance of the wheel alone. Without tyre. If it's a tubeless make sure the valve and other details (like magnets, etc.) are in place. Similar with tube, set it and check. That will give you a good head start, on this balancing game. ;-)

I have been watching your videos all night long, besides all the other ones I've watched ever since I bought my 50cc Peace Sport...I typed in "replace front wheel bearing" but haven't found anything...Do you have any experience with this that could hand me down some tips, please??? If you could make a video on the subject it'll be great!!! If you do have experience on it; could you please indicate what type of bearings would I need to get??? Thanks in advance
@49ccscoot4 жыл бұрын
Here ya go : kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4OwdYtqa6etq7c You would need to check the part numbers on your bearings to see what you need to get.

I had no idea. I am thinking of buying 2 new moped wheels for 250 because my stock wheels are about 25 years old. Where did u purchase the wheel weights from. If I Could ask. Thanks .Randy h dasf
@49ccscoot7 жыл бұрын
One type of weights that I use are made by K&L. If you search "K&L wheel weights" plenty will come up. I think the others were generic from eBay or amazon. If your wheels look OK and it's just the 25 years old thing that worries you, you could check for runout (put a dial indicator on them while they're on the balance stand) and make sure the surfaces where the bead will contact are in good condition. Considering the speed goal though, if you have doubts it's hard to argue with replacing them. 90MPH or anywhere near it is fast on those little wheels.

I have a pit bike and when i tighten up the wheel nuts they become stiff and wont spin, do you know what the problem might be.
@49ccscoot9 жыл бұрын
+magicdevil1996 Check the spacing. Make sure you're putting things back how they were. Maybe a spacer is touching more than just one section of the wheel bearing and trying to lock them together.

can i balance a 11" wheel thats on a scooter? 48mph starts shaking
@49ccscoot4 жыл бұрын
Sure. You can balance 10s or 12s, so 11s should be fine.

My handlebars wobble. Do you think this is a tyre balance issue?
@49ccscoot10 жыл бұрын
I would check the fasteners and bearings in the handlebars and steering stem first. Balance issues are more likely to give you a vibration that changes with speed.
@Xombigod10 жыл бұрын
The wobble is only when I loosen my grip on the handlebars at speed 30mph-40mph. So do you reckon it's still bearings?
@49ccscoot10 жыл бұрын
I would still check the bearings. I would also make sure the tire is properly inflated. If this just started "out of the blue" then make sure the wheel hasn't been bent as could happen hitting a pothole or something like that. Won't hurt to check the balance and it could be related to that if it's way out.
@Xombigod10 жыл бұрын
It seem to have occurred since having a new tyre fitted last week, tyre pressure is fine! Thanks for the advice so far.
@49ccscoot10 жыл бұрын
Ah, well when you have a specific time/event that it started it's good to list it. In that case it's more likely to be related to the tire directly. See if the tire is mounted in the proper direction if it's got arrows on it to indicate direction. Also check that the light spot (usually marked with a dot) is aligned with the valve stem.

Depending on the severity of the case it pretty much can make it "unridable". My worst case scenario. Was a very unbalanced Kawasaki KLR 250 (21" front, 18" back). Bought in almost scrap condition. Where the tire fixing clamp was badly assembled. Adding to old tires. Lightly smashed rims. And no sort of balancing for any of the wheels. Long story short. The 350km ride home. Was done at a top speed of around 80km/h! Anything above the bike literally jumped and shacked of my hands... ;-)

My scooter on the center stand when wheel is revved to 50-60kph the bike vibrates left and right quite seriously. When riding, this causes the steering to shake left and right at said speed. Is it a balancing issue?
@49ccscoot5 жыл бұрын
Could be. Could be that something is bent or otherwise damaged/out of spec. I would do a thorough inspection of the whole scooter's suspension and wheels and tires because it is dangerous if the steering is moving.
@Lacider11 жыл бұрын
Good info, you think most wheels are out of balance on most Chinese scoots? (from the factory) if/when I get mine, I may just use the packing frame to make a tire balancer. :P
@49ccscoot11 жыл бұрын
I do think most are out of balance. Many say it doesn't matter unless you can get to 50MPH+, but I've definitely had wheels/tires that annoy me at slower speeds.

I have a Taotao 2012. My weight is 112lb. I ride my scooter alone and I will be riding it in a average temperature of 65, how much psi do you recommend for the front and rear tires? There are multiple opinions and honestly I’m so confused! Thank you!
@49ccscoot7 жыл бұрын
I'd probably try 32psi front and rear. You may be able to go less, being so light, but low air pressure will slow these small scoots down. If the steering feels too fast for you like that, you could try dropping a couple psi from the front.

Balance beads or ride on..
@49ccscoot5 жыл бұрын
I've used both of those as well. I prefer Ride-On of those options, because it can help to avoid a flat. I've used Ride on with static balanced wheels as well.

what if i get new tyres installed but no wheel balancing was done?
@49ccscoot3 жыл бұрын
That's common on scooters. Many people don't think it's necessary on low speed stuff. It may not be. If you notice any issues, then you may want to balance the wheels and tires.
@motley6796 жыл бұрын
Never knew this was a thing with scooter wheels. Is it serious ordeal or?
@49ccscoot6 жыл бұрын
You don't have to do it, but if you have problems with vibrations it may help. It's not tough to do if you have a balancing stand, just takes a little time.
