Thank you for the advice 🙂 I tried to set up "Dragon of Icespire Peak" for a seamless continuation (not the modules provided by WotC, but something different) and ended up with an unplanned civil war for the rights of orcs 🤷‍♂ I'd say I failed successfully, lots of fun. With regard to Matt's quote: I wonder whether he was just annoyed at people asking "but how do I do that" when there were plenty of videos available in his "Running the Game" series to learn just that. Kind of like a teacher that, at the end of the year, is being asked about questions in the upcoming exam. But who knows. If I remember correctly, in one of his more recent lifestreams someone asked whether he's thinking about creating more videos for the series and his reply was along the lines of "there's a whole playlist trying to convince you to give DMing a try, if you're still not sure, one more video's not going to cut it".

I feel it was more of him expressing his limitations. He does a poor job of emphasizing his limits, probably because it is healthier (and more fun) to focus on strengths. He couldn't explain how to link adventures because he didn't know (in that moment) how to break it down into a step process that he could explain. Some of the Running the Game videos break down how he chooses adventures, plans them, and introduces them to players. But they don't explicitly link one adventure that you've finished to a new adventure that you've bought. His summary for this second paragraph was "I dunno, you just 'BE' a Dungeon Master."

Hey there @@ElderGoblinGames - good to see you and good to feel seen Yes, wherever there’s a house rule, I’ll be there, and Jim puts out some superb ones - he has a big presence on the playlist - just 1 away from 3k by the way - feel free to take the spot if you have a video or even a short about a house rule to upload 😄

I transitioned from Rime of the Frostmaiden to Light of Xaraxys using the Nautiloid in the first adventure. Technically, the B team (2024 playtest PCs) went into Spacejammer while the A team dealt with Auril.

And this is how we play, because we are old school who are okay with current systems. Most fun. Thanks for sharing this for new players and GMs to learn how much fun this is!

Yeah. That did sound a little superior, 'Just be a DM'. That's like the advice you hear when playing PvP and your team mates are frustrated that they're getting stomped, "git gud noob!". I don't actually appreciate Colville's aesthetic when he talks about DMing or the game in general. I used to think his channel was pretty cool but after he started pushing his own game, there's just something in his tone that's off-putting. He did have great advice at the time and for a time I found it of value much like I used to think the Big Mac was a really good sandwich for the dollar. To contrast: Your channel is more like that backyard bbq where you just feel at home and you know it's going to be good eats and fun.

Sorry, I don't remember which video. It was from 3 or 4 years ago, in a livestream. I remember the moment pretty clearly but it would take a lot of detective work to track down the exact moment in the exact video

I love your content, GM Jim, but I wouldn't be surprised if you have a lot of people bounce off this video. New videos from Matt are super rare, and I was so excited when I thought this was one of them that I almost left immediately when I realized it wasn't. I'm sticking with it because I want to see you be successful, but I highly encourage you to edit your thumbnail to make it more clear this isn't from Matt.
