I’m quite confused by the Porsche market today. I have 4 Porsches, including a GT3 and a GT3 RS but I lost my relationship with one dealer who sold to me at MSRP until the 991.2 GT3 RS when he asked for a premium. I moved my business over to a larger volume dealer, bought a Macan S to show my good faith for the future but when the 992 GT3 and GT3 RS came in, I got asked for $100+K ADMs. I passed and now I’m not sure I’ll ever buy another Porsche. I had been offered a 918 by Porsche back in 2013 (got the folder and brochure in the mail plus offered a test drive) but I didn’t buy it and now I’m nowhere with Porsche dealers. At this point, Ferrari is treating me better and I have a deposit on a 296 GTB with an allocation coming up for order later this year. That’s an MSRP deal and the dealer paid for a free customer tour at the Ferrari factory in September so they are treating me well. I still want the new GT3 RS but I haven’t found a Porsche dealer who values my business today. I’m open to a new dealer relationship, even out of state, and I’m willing to buy another Porsche as well as the RS but here in California, that gets me nowhere.

Good dealers still exist but you'll have a hell of a time getting MSRP hot Porsches in Los Angeles. And you hit on one of the other issues. One dealer up north does MSRP deals and told me they won't consider allocations for GT cars for customers unless they have purchased five previous vehicles from the dealership group in the last however many years. So in that way they are rewarding their more loyal and profit making customers. But there's nothing guaranteeing you a car after you buy those five others which is why some say just pay what you're willing to pay for the car you want today and not bothering with all of this. That's what I had to do. The good news is I could probably get as much or more for that car today. It is what it is. I'm actually quite curious what dealers you were working with before that have changed their tune. Even in 2016 I couldn't get a GT4 at MSRP from an LA store though I was not an existing customer anywhere.

only a dealer would sell this nonsense. but in the moment it seems like "the answer"
@tngdwn8350 Жыл бұрын
It's not really nonsense. They produce a product which is practically limited. They don't have a clear limit like some manufactures, but they only have a limited amount of production capacity and, while people think it works this way, it's not possible to generate a new car factory whenever you want, especially when you are producing locally like Porsche. Also their existing factorys are already working at the limit and they increased the amount of GT3s produced constantly over every generation. In addition to that the GT3 is a performance car und Porsche is one of the bigger manufactures, so there are certain regulations in place, which means, if I remember correctly, for every GT3 they sell they also have to sell an EV. They generally have to compansate their performance oriented IC cars. At the end, the car is limited by certain factors, but the demand is much, much higher, so it's obvious how the market reacts. Porsche could just charge much more money for the car and adjust the market this way, but instead they use the method mentioned in the video and sell it to people who are Porsche/car enthusiasts and loyal customers.

So Porsche has adapted a Ferrari like policy. BTW- these cars aren’t the only ones - i challenge anyone who dumps on Porsche or Ferrari to try and get the new Corvette Z06 without being an historic vette customer

As a long time Porsche owner, i think length of time one has owned and driven them should be the biggest factor. it should be something like minimum of 5 years ownership of sporting models (no suv's) and you need to prove that you drive the thing 5-10k a year, track days also should score more points towards an allocation. If i could get a gt3rs allocation i would daily & track it like every Porsche i have owned 🙂 when the market eventually collapses and it will just like gpu's did, i will pick up a garage queen example race prep it, immediately take it to to the track and put it to proper use.

This is not necessarily true, in Houston my friends has bought about 7-8 new Porsches from the dealership and still has no allocation to a GT3 or GT3RS that he wants. He literally bought two 718 Spyders over sticker, 992 GTS, two Macan GTS, GT4, GT4RS over sticker, etc. Feel bad for the guy throwing away so much money.

A little late to the party but I finally have come into some money and I have wanted a GT3 since i was a kid. This 992 generation is amazing but I have been having a hard time justifying that 60 to 100k mark up. I will be looking to make the purchase within the next year, hoping a 992.2 comes out relatively soon to bring down the prices on the 992.1s. If not, will probably be looking into a 991.2 GT3 / RS

I am not willing to buy a bunch of shit I don’t need. I’ve been fortunate enough to do multiple BMW Euro-deliveries through the decades, but Porsche is being hard to deal with. I’m not a flipper. I want to spec a new car, then get another one at 100k miles.

@gordon8871 Жыл бұрын
This is out of date in my area. New 911's, even the base and S versions, have a 1-3 year waiting period for the allocation. You can't just offer to buy one to get a GT3 later because they don't have one to sell you and the GT3 already has a waiting period that takes it into the next version of the car.

I've thought this was the way to work hard to get items for awhile. A lot of dealers are shady, but if you come at the deal realizing they need to make money too it goes a lot better. When it comes to negotiating you cant expect the dealer to make zero, unless they way over paid for something.
@MisterMonsieur Жыл бұрын
The dealer NEVER makes "zero" even if they sell below invoice. Selling at MSRP is more than enough for them, which doesn't consider the volume bonus they make for all the cars they sell in a month. Don't be fooled into thinking that dealers make pennies on the dollar. They make money hand over fist. I've worked sales to service to management to being a dealer group VP. It's impossible for a dealer to lose money on any new car sale. Period.

@shahrukhbakar3248 Жыл бұрын
The basic issue is that Porsche has created a geographic and supply-side problem by setting the MSRP so low. If the MSRP and distribution were done correctly, there would be no secondary market. Set the 992 GT3 MSRP at 300k and the secondary market will disappear.

It depends which Country You're in though, I have a friend who have built strong relationships with the Local Dealership and He was told people who buy the exclusive Porsches are not allowed to flip the Cars anymore. Once discovered by Porsche, they will be Automatically Blacklisted for Life within the Dealership network and can't buy any Porsche or given any allocation at All. Also He knows another Friend who literally just walked up to the Dealership and said He wanted a GT4RS straight up without the BS of buying a bunch of Cars from Porsche before getting allocation, that was 2 years ago when the first Spy Photos leaked on Nurburgring (He previously owned a 991.1 GT3RS and 718 GT4) and He got His allocation in early April this year. My Friend only got a 718 GT4 and was also given allocation to a GT4 RS as well, but declined because He wanted a 992.2 GT3. So it really depends How You build the relationship and talk to the Dealerships.

@joshuam4614 Жыл бұрын
This is insane. All you have to do if you want to order a GT3 is to go through the European delivery program. For every car the dealership sells through the European delivery program, that dealer is given an extra new 911 allotment. If they normally only receive 20 911 allotments a year, by taking your order they now get 21 cars. If the dealer gives you a hard time or tries to force you into buying some car that you don't want, write letters, not an E-mail, to Porsche NA and to Porsche AG. You will get the car at sticker price.

There's a hard truth in how you actually get GT Porsches at msrp (Source. I have done it several times and I have a 992 GT3RS on order at msrp) Unless your last name is Clooney or Seinfeld you're probably hosed. The easiest way IMO is not live in large affluent car markets and be prepared to wait. If you're somewhere like LA or ATL you are probably SOL without a serious dealer relationship that you have built buying other cars. This is obviously not an answer for most and quite ridiculous. The affluent large markets get most of the allocations. Most dealers won't sell out of their market either, and why would they? They make little to nothing on the sale of new cars without ADM and you're not giving them service dollars. Your likelihood of adding to their revenue is low. But if you're in one of the mid-west/less competitive markets you're probably on a list that isn't quite that long. We have a home in Toronto, Seattle, and Detroit areas. Guess where I purchase all of my GT Porsches (and other Porsches) I know it can be frustrating that these cars have become veblen goods but there's little chance of these ever becoming easy to purchase. The OEM isn't going to just pump out more cars as it's not that simple. Dealers aren't often going to just leave money on the table. And too many don't mind the ADM game or paying it.

I think I'd rather just overpay for the car I want than have to keep buying a new Cayenne every 2 years just to move myself up the list. Really annoys me that Porsche basically market the GT cars at 20-30% less than they actually cost. Then reviewers all ignore the fact that it's impossible to buy them for anywhere near the list price when comparing them to other cars
@matthewelliott2213 Жыл бұрын
Just get the agreement in writing... This makes the dealer sound magically ethical because you're willing to wait a year or two for a car... The dealer is never ethical unless you have a binding contract.
@awdken6 Жыл бұрын
I still don’t think this helps. For example, I’m finally in a position where in a year or two I’d be able to buy the GT3 I want. I can’t afford to keep buying other cars that I don’t want to “become a customer.” So it’s still not getting these cars into the hands of people who turkey want to own and enjoy them.

The number one reason why there are all flippers is because of manufacturers allocation. This is just another great way to get more business for them. The harder manufacturers make it to get their cars the more profitable there will be on the secondhand. If they really want to stop a end to this they just got to make more car of that model period!
@irdestroyer Жыл бұрын
Better bang for the buck is to buy used and wait for depreciation to hit on the resale market. Patience pays off. Buying multiple cars just to "build a relationship" is nonsense, unless you are just going to re-sell them privately and take the hit on depreciation and sales tax in hopes of getting an allocation on the car you really want, which may actually make sense financially than paying a premium if the premium is large enough, but that's a lot of work. If the manufacturers really cared about flipping they could put in anti-flipping provisions in their sales contract, but it's not about that, it's about fleecing loyal turkeys for as much as they can so they can get rid of slow moving inventory.
