Timing always lines up such that as another work week winds down, before I leave my desk, I hop into KZbin. Invariably (thank you, O Mighty KZbin algorithm!), Eric Haugen's Friday lesson is top of the queue for me. I do not need to scroll past it as it is my favorite decompression chamber between the rushing flow of work items and easing into my weekend. As a guitar and music student, Eric is an absolute top-tier instructor and I always learn from these lessons. As a person, Eric's genuineness, engagement with and enthusiasm for all things music, and kind soul always shine through. Thanks, Eric! 🙏🏽🌟😊

I've always loved this song, and the phrasings in the guitar work, so I'm thrilled to see it used as the foundation for this week's lesson. And you're gonna go far with this little tag line: "The audience doesn't know what you can't do until you show them." I have a show this weekend and I'm going to let it guide my decisions. (Maybe I'll get it as a tattoo.) Thanks once again, brilliant internet teacher!

Oh man, the perfect Little Wing solo with all the right bends. Thanks for that one. Every time I learn Hendrix's exact playing it proves yet again: Hendrix was off all the charts. Edit: I went and listened to the isolated track solo and see you added a few release bends but, damn, they actually make it sound better at least when played by us mere mortals.

On vibrato, I know that Peter Tork from the Monkees talked about the brief period where Hendrix was their opening act and he asked Jimi about vibrato technique. Hendrix told him to use the weight of the guitar to help. Another point: it's easy to vibrato frantically and sound bad because it's too fast. Slow it down, probably about half the speed that you think you need to do. It can be hard to do in brief/quick notes, but it's worth it. Listen to Danny Kirwan and Peter Green. On playing tastefully, just watch/listen to Chris Stafford. His guitar in Feufollet and Viatones was so incredibly tasteful. He instinctively knew exactly what a song needed melodically, arrangement, production, etc, and could deliver. Effortlessly tasteful on pretty much any instrument. I don't know if there's any one quick video that showcase his playing because he was so understated.

You were doing something at the beginning I see a lot but am not sure how to interpret. When you play the E chord around 1:03, your pinky goes up to the 3rd fret of the 6th string. I think I'm realizing only now that you are not adding in a low G note but just using your pinky to mute the strings below it. Is that right?
@EricHaugenGuitar

Learning scales is like learning alphabets A-Z. Phrasing is speaking in phrases, sentences, paragraphs (for soloists). To play a scale up and down the fretboard is similar to a kid spelling out A,B,C in order.

Hey Erick your lesson have been a big help, was wondering if you’d ever considered doing a explanation on the licks heard on Lou Reeds song “Coney Island Baby” the songs a simple chord progression but the lead is what brings it to life, and I can seem to find a video explaining the lead playing or even a cover. I’d really appreciate it 🤘🏽
