I am so truly grateful to hear your different perspective on Amish life and their religion. So often people who leave a religion only have very negative opinions about it and share only negativity regarding it. Thank you for the respect you show the religion of your youth and to your mom and dad. They truly raised you the right way or you never would have found Jesus Christ. If after you take the clothes out of the dryer you put the tee shirts and pants over the back of a chair they will not wrinkle and you don't have to fold them!:) I agree with the trade schools too, too many kids think they have to go to college and get a degree in something. The time and money they spend might or might not result in better paying jobs when they get out? If you learn the trade you can move anywhere in the country and get a decent paying job.

Love this video! Growing up in Indiana, I’ve always been within minutes of the Amish, even when I lived in Indy. Yet, I’ve always been so fascinated by them. You’re right, there’s nothing like the country. We lived in the country for 2 years, with Amish buggy’s going by frequently. We moved back to the suburbs because the drive to work was just too much for my husband. And we miss it so much! Living in the Midwest though, pretty much everyone is helpful 😂

I remember feeling this way when we were first married before having our son. So glad I leaned the truth about the Amish and not that they're "bad" people. But it's actually very pharisee-ical. All about following the rules of the church to be saved vs the Truth of the gospel. Also, they don't read the Word, they discourage evangelizing, and from what I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong. They teach in German during their services like the Catholics used to do to keep the truth of the gospel out of their lives. Healing burdens on the people but not being willing to lift a finger to actually help the lost. Really enjoying your intriguing channel.

I grew up this way essentially but we weren't Amish, we were poor hillbillies in the Ozarks. We used kerosene lamps, cooked and heated with wood and had an outhouse. And used a wringer washer and a clothes line. And we didn't have a car, we walked everywhere we went and we lived 6 miles out of town, carrying our groceries home was the hardest part. I could cut wood by myself starting at maybe 9 or 10 and I finally got a chainsaw when I was 12. It's been a while but I plan on going back to this life in a cabin in the woods with a good dog one day.

Me and my family are moving to 110 acres, we want to go down this rout also, and eventually the kids become more pure than we have been. We want to carry on the branch in Northern New Brunswick, or an alliance through it as we are currently fundamental Baptists. No stress or rebellion against the world, but now that we are maturing as parents we are maturing in our faith and take it seriously, and the world is what it is and does not work with us. I have impairments with communication and learning and it makes it harder, I am better with my hands. We just want to work and uphold the faith, not bring the world besides some punching bags and my skills of martial arts for recreation but not for the sport. The only worldly thing we do is train martial arts, but now more with understanding and less have graduated out of the idolism of fighters. We do not know what to do, in the world, but we know what we want out of our faith and community and marriages for our children, and our land has to mean something and we need a community to be built. If I cannot qualify then I really want to be an ally and host a community, let them be part of my land. I want to feed people and do good things, can't live the way we are forced to live and our faith is pushing back too hard to stick around for conflicts and problems with the world, rather put that good energy to feeding people and building a community.

I mean, it's understandable that someone has a different view of how his/her fate/religion should be followed, but to say that someone is incorrectly following his/her own fate... it's pushing a bit far...live your fate how you want to live it as long as it doesn't encroach other people's fate...i think 🤷🏻♂️🤔

I could not become Amish because of their works salvation idea. Having said that though , I admire the Amish style of living greatly and admire the Amish greatly, but it would be too much of a change for me. Presently I live in the middle of the forest. I hand feed raccoons on my back deck. Thus my name my son gave to me of “raccoon Don”. I’m retired. I have only one old car. I love the simplicity of that aspect of my life. On the other hand , my wife has medical problems , so that makes life somewhat hard for both of us. But we both love the “country life”. I was raised Plymouth Brethren which is almost the same as Southern Baptist ….and was also raised on the 1611 version of the King James Bible , which is very easy to read and some of it “poetic”. So I learned that I should witness for Jesus Christ and that salvation comes through faith….not works. I’ve found some things wrong with many denominations , and some good in many denominations …..it’s a mix. But above all is God’s word…..denominations often follow tradition or their own ideas rather than studying scripture and living accordingly. Go to church but “be a Berean”. Don’t know how to be a Berean ? Read Acts 17. Read the whole chapter and especially verse 11. Being a Berean is simply a way to believe and study scripture no matter what church you go to….but “find a GOOD church”.

A thing I still do not get, is how they can live in a close knit community, where Jesus Himself demands from us that we evangelize. Mattew 28:19-20 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Yes KJV, so they can not deny it is unbiblical) As how can one teach all nations, when one tries hsut themselves out of the nation they live in.
@pamfink40523 жыл бұрын
And the name is Jesus. Acts 2:38 "And Peter said into them repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins ". Father is a title, son is a title and holy ghost is a title. You can't sign your check father, son and carpenter or whatever your job title is. You have to sign it with your name in order for it to be any good.

Here is my 2 cents, I grew up in a VERY conservative lutheran sect, no TV's, no radio/music, etc... HOWEVER, the way the Amish live their lives, is WISE. They dont depend on anything concerning bureaucracy. There's no "life line" so to speak. I do HOWEVER disagree with works based salvation. Its vain. God forgives and forebodes who that He wishes. And it has nothing to do with our works, It has to do with the condition of our desires. You can live a full amish life, but not have the heart God wants. But you can also live a full life away from all the nonsense of the english norms, and still be found worthy. Its about what you worship, (Many folks seem to think worship is confined to building or a group of people) but really worship is what you DO. Its not about praying or whatever, its waht MOTIVATES you in your daily routine. IE: WHY do you do the things you do? etc But again, just my 2 cents.

@rogersiders37023 жыл бұрын
The actual early church of the first century. We have writings from that era called the ante nicene fathers. Some of these writers were disciples of the apostles. David Bercot was so impressed by their writings that he eventually joined a conservative mennonite church. He says the amish and conservative mennonites come the closest to the actual lifestyle practiced by the early church, particularly nonresistance and separation from the world. He also found the early church taught simple modest unadorned clothing along with women's head covering. Now, he does say the modern day anabaptists don't practice everything taught by the early church but as far as major doctrines the anabaptists come the closest.

I’m also a Christian but I kan never think something like that. Only God can condamn someone to hell or to save that person. We can’t do that. We can’t condamn people to hell or think we know what our Lord Jesus will do. We run the risk of being in front of Him judging our brothers. He forgives, redeems and saves people not us. The judgment is His and His alone. Our part is not to judge and forgive always. Am I missing something here?

It is only for God to judge who goes to heaven or hell. However, His word clearly states we are saved by grace through faith NOT OF WORKS. Amish do not believe this therefore they have a false belief. A false god.
@ThePatatonga2 жыл бұрын
@@theamishpotato the very singularity to put it to words as you did, pointing out to Amish worshipping a "false god" is pure pride of yourself thinking to know the truth by what you have studied in the bible. In the end I believe the deeds do also represent your faith. God will look in each heart. The God given earth would be in perfect peace, shape and seasons if 60% or a bit more of the popuation would be worshiping God in an amish way instead of just having empty, deedless promises...

Hang drying clothing is preferable to myself as well. They are fresh and crisp. Folding clothes & putting away keeps things orderly. When there is more than 1 person a laundry basket is definitely not efficient...at all. Lol. They wrinkle in a basket for one thing. You will end up with 10 laundry baskets! One for towels and cloths, the other for whites, the other for work clothing etc etc. You're kinda just being stubborn and well, not very kind. By your logic, why put clean dishes away? They just get dirty again so no need to put them away, just wash as needed. Things are different when there is one person. More than one and with children? Please help her. Maybe just do towels and something else that's easy to fold. I just had a brainwave! Do your system of laundry baskets for 2 weeks with your household. No folding, just dump onto beds, find clothes, and dump back in at end of day of course throw dirty ones in a separate basket. Leave the clothing as is when putting on for a new day. If you didn't iron then nobody gets ironed clothes as this is your fault proof system. Go out to visit or to shop or to dinner, same rules. Not folding or hanging will make wrinkles but no cheating! Wear them how they come. Lol. I hope you and your wife do this. Hopefully you see this is done for a reason. 😂

Why do you think salvation by work is a wrong message? It seems so reasonable. It's socially beneficial.
@theamishpotato2 жыл бұрын
It contradicts scripture. When we are born again(made new, have a heart change) we will naturally do good works.

@@theamishpotato You are clearly sincere. I've always had trouble with the idea that works are somehow not the central point. Do you think that quotations from letters sent around the early churches have the same weight as words that Jesus himself spoke?
@theamishpotato2 жыл бұрын
@@TerryClarkAccordioncrazy I think works is in a sense the end goal. The point is works does not come from us but from Christ who lives in us. We are not capable of genuine good works apart from Christ. Romans 3:12. What quotations are you referring to?
@TerryClarkAccordioncrazy2 жыл бұрын
@@theamishpotato By "quotations from letters sent around the early churches" I mean Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, in fact most of the NT apart from the gospels. Do you think those have the same weight as the words of Jesus? I wonder if people who believe the doctrine of works might treat those letters as having lesser weight. Only my conjecture, nothing more. I know some will say that for Christians all of the Bible has equal weight but that's clearly not true because modern Christians don't follow all the laws of Leviticus.

Please don’t judge all communities and Amish by what you grew up with.I grew up New Order Amish and Salvation was taught well,and also heard a sermon by my cousin,an Old Order Amish Bishop,who stressed the New Birth experience

Lmao.. You not folding clothes made me laugh. 🤣 I hate to fold clothes, but only do so because it helps to prevent wrinkles in them. I can't stand to wear wrinkly clothes... lol Oh, and folding them, you then can put away a lot easier. 😉

Let's include all context on our FAITH? JAMES 2:14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder. 20You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is uselessfn? 21Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”fn and he was called God’s friend. 24You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. 25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

What these scriptures are saying is” you can’t say you have faith and not act like it”. Basically,I can’t say I have faith in Christ but never trusting Him. There’s no external works that will save me.....or else it would contradict many other scriptures.

You are right mothers should be at home and look after the household when the children are still at home. The Amish it seems have a very great working lifestyle, it’s the Christian lifestyle where they are not right. How to become a Christian and live the Christian life, they are too much into the works, which is false. Yes, in the book of James it says faith without works is dead, so we need to live the real Christian lifestyle, but the Amish have too much works only that they think it will get him into heaven.
