With the exception of the rule about drinking, this could easily apply to the States as well. When it comes to alcohol, good chunks of the US display a similar attitude towards alcohol as they do towards sex. The US has a split personality about sex: we simultaneously leer with impunity, while at the same time going “Think of the children! Won’t somebody please think of the children?” I’m not sure whether I should call us puritanical perverts or perverted puritans. Anyway, when it comes to alcohol, the US silently drinks, while scolding others for doing so.

Instead of complaining about the video, why don't you take a step back and see what makes immigrants think this is true? What is it that we experience on a daily basis that makes us feel this is accurate? If you're not an immigrant you are not in a position to decide whether this has valid points or not. You might not find it funny because you cannot relate or you don't get it, but instead of attacking it have a think of why immigrants in Britain feel like that. Although exaggerated at some points the video brings up things that have a very valid basis. Exaggeration is a comedy mechanism, and even with that exaggeration there are still be people who fit the level of xenophobia as depicted in the video, but there will also be others who don't expect all that from immigrants, or who think they don't expect any of it and yet subconsciously they do and they will and it comes out in things they say and do that they believe are not racist. And we experience that every. Single. Day. Yes not from everyone and yes not everyone does it on purpose. This video is not attacking you, it's giving you an opportunity to think of what you might do or say without realising so you can fight any bias or prejudices you may have.

Having grown up in the UK around people in the aforementioned 'other' religion mentioned in this video, it is very apparent to me that certain cultures and religions DO NOT LIKE the native culture of the UK. For example, when 9/11 occured whilst I was in school, all of the native british students were saddened, but a lot of the students from the 'other' culture were outright making fun of what happened, making jokes about it with each other. People are very naive when it comes to this topic. Their particular reglious 'book' specifically distinguishes THEM from everybody else, so basically, if you fall into the "everybody else" category, you are seen as 'below' them, i.e you are a 'disbeliever'. People need to be aware of these things before welcoming people into your country who have an ideological dislike of your culture and values. Not all cultures are like this. The aforementioned Hindu religion cause zero problems to Native British in the UK, but the same cannot be said for others.

Absolutely hilarious (my favourite bit: "Why ARE Australians mostly white?") - but dislike of immigrants isn't a specifically British trait. It applies to many nationalities. Some countries, like Japan and Poland, simply keep immigrants out. This video inevitably comes out as one-sided, ignoring, as it does, the more contentious issues that arise from communities with major cultural differences living in proximity. There are some aspects of one community's culture that another community simply cannot bring itself to tolerate. This applies to aspects of many cultures, including Western. Examples include: female genital mutilation; sexual promiscuity; unrestrained drinking of alcohol; circumcision; child marriage (an aspect of white communities in some countries), subjugation of women; sex with minors; dressing revealingly; homosexuality; transgender people etc etc You could make an equally hilarious satirical video on some of those issues. The difference is, that video would probably get banned.
@Midwinter24 жыл бұрын
@@noname-pf2br Well, that's the point, isn't it? These videos are funny in the way they make fun of utterly appalling things. In the above video, for example, the question "why are Australians mostly white?" is left hanging. The answer: white Europeans hunted down the aboriginal Australians and shot them - often for sport - until they were almost wiped out. Ugly stuff - and , as you say, the reality of being hunted down and shot is not hilarious. But the joke about covering that up is.

There’s a difference between racism and nationalism. Racism is treating someone prejudicially based solely on their race. Nationalism is treating a non British person/foreigner as being of less importance than a British person The second one is sometimes tied to race own, but far from uniformly In the same way one cares more about a child you don’t know being hit by a car in your village than you do about a child you don’t know being hit by a car in Mongolia. Or indeed in Germany. Or Poland. Or Ukraine. You know, countries largely populated by whites people of some denomination

Interesting how people are quick to play the "satire" card here and say it's fine because it's "just a joke", but if the target was non-white people, the shield of satire/comedy would magically be negated. You'd get censored, de-platformed in an instant, or even accused of a hate crime. I'd be fine with this satire, if the rules weren't so one-sided and resulted in one group being the punching bag for everyone else. Satire/jokes should apply for everybody, rather than be dependent on who's telling the joke.

@@MC-mh2ju I would like to clarify I don't quite agree with his views and I see your point with the question. I find it ironic and funny how the biggest pieces of shit complain about how productive and nice immigrants take up recourses but I do think there's a discussion to be had. Obviously there's a limited space and resources, it would be unfair to deny them of people who through no fault of their own were born here and we can't exactly kick them out. But I must say I would rather have immigrants who bring talents, skills, culture and all the other wonderful things we have thanks to the fact we allow so many people from around the world in. Again, obviously refugees deserve a place to live safely without fear so we should accommodate for them. But we must think about our own country and what benefits it as well as without a stable and prosperous country we cannot help others around the world. Surely there is a midpoint? I'll be the first to admit I don't know where that is but labelling good people who are at least attempting to as racists when they clearly aren't isn't very nice nor productive. It's why I don't like this video.

So, according to the BBC expecting immigrants to assimilate to British culture, learn the language and be law abiding citizens is racist? Also worrying about the demographic change in Brittain is racist too? Immigration is a privilege not a right and it should not replace or change the home culture or people. And the smug, self righteous tone of the video is just irritating.
@bsarioz6 жыл бұрын
Assimilating doesn't mean you have to speak the same language 100% of the time. People can speak two languages you know. It's not that difficult, you should try yourself 😁
@jeromerex175 жыл бұрын
How on earth did you get such statements from that video. They were making fun of certain attitudes but none of them were the ones you described. Nowhere did they suggest immigrants should not learn English or obey the law. What they were satirising is the idea that immigrants should only speak English including to other immigrants. As for assimilation what does that mean? Why should immigrants be required to adopt to every typical attitude of a group of people in a host culture. You might say well some other cultures are intolerant. I agree but am opposed to their intolerance. I immigrated here from US many years ago and feel more at home here than in my country of birth. One of the things I like about this country is the tolerance of difference among a lot of it's people. I would probably be regarded as eccentric by many British people but that's seen as acceptable. In America much less so. For all their talk of individualism many Americans were very conformist.
@richardbourton45235 жыл бұрын
It’s very interesting how people who actually LIVE in places with high immigration rates don’t complain nearly as much as those with much lower immigration rates (London vs the North or West of England for example). It’s almost like exposure to people who are different from you helps you realise that generalising and fearing a whole group doesn’t really make any sense, as any group of people will have some people who are nice and good and some who aren’t so much and no group is a monolith. People who are exposed to different groups of people to themselves soon realise that fear-mongering and scapegoating is hard to square with actually meeting people from that group. The racism and Islamophobia of much of the UK really irks me, because most people in small country villages have hardly ever met a Muslim/insert-other-actually-not-homogenous-group. Hate is born from ignorance and fear of the unknown but such people should realise that most of the people actually living around the ‘dreaded’ immigrants aren’t bothered nearly as much. Hearing the ridiculous term ‘Londonistan’ is similarly infuriating, because it is not just ignorant and unfounded, but also carries with it the extreme prejudices of people who might actually like a Muslim if they met one instead of just reading the Daily Mail. Humans have a natural in-group vs out-group mentality, but that’s no excuse for indulging in mindless hatred of the Other.

Yeah im sure being white helps the Eastern Europeans, and sounding middle class English works really well in Scotland, I know this is a joke but the reality is for example when you hear second generation immigrants barely speaking English, and treating British culture as not theirs people get annoyed. The "originally from" is used out of context I have used it to mean where is your family from and used to NOT offend I.e I don't want to label all Asians as Indian. Its not the immigrant people "dislike" its what they represent and how they act. When people are losing jobs simply because they were born here and migrants were getting jobs simply for being migrants people get annoyed, when the poorer areas become where the migrants move to and once locals move away as they become the minority people get annoyed, when council funds are spent on translators for migrants to access services people get annoyed as that money could of gone elsewhere, when local social housing is taken my migrants when people who have been waiting years with genuine problems don't people get annoyed. so its not the individual migrant people "dislike" its the knock on effect which is seen as racism by people looking from the outside.
