Brill video. Go OMP! Just a little tip I've picked up in my 50 yrs of playing golf. When chipping around the green or over greenside bunkers as in video get the ball onto and running on the green as soon as possible. Choose the area you want the ball to land on the green stride it out (say its 4 strides) then stride out distance from there to the pin (say 12 strides) divide the 12 by the 4 = 3 so it's a ratio of 3:1. In other words ball needs to travel 3 times distance you land the ball. So for arguments sake 3:1 would be your 8 iron then just work from there. 4:1 7 iron 2:1 9 iron 1:1 pw. Obviously these will be different for each person and to take into account slope pace of greens etc. But beauty is you need only one shot just change clubs. Sorry if a bit long winded hope I made it easy to understand.

Actually, why not make two videos with Pat caddying 9 holes and then check the score you, Liam, can get with his help - maybe compare it to a previous round on your own (just a score card needed) and then talk about the differences in a third video, ey?

I'm 68 and have taken a lot from this video. Watching OMP and his effortless swing has encouraged me to follow suit. Always wanting to smash the golf ball, and knowing that I shouldn't, I can see the sense in the abbreviated swing by OMP. Once we can get back onto the golf course here in Victoria, Australia (currently in lock-down), I will definitely adopt OMP's practice and see how I go. Thanks for great down to earth, uncomplicated vlogs Liam. I enjoy watching them.

OMP is great to watch. I use some of his tips and lowered my handicap by 4 strokes. The putting lineup tip and chipping with 7 iron have really helped. Since I can't constantly hit the ball straight like Pat I would like to see a video with slow motion of his swing. Information with hand placement, grip pressure, swing alignment etc. Yes I would like to emulate his swing or parts of it if I can. Thanks for all the great videos, I am going to practice the scoppie whoppie now.

Great video. Omp plays smart golf because he plays within his limits. As you get older you loose distance so you play for position and having an 11 handicap proves it works.

Very interesting Liam. You'd be wise to take notice of OMP who plays to his realistic expectations and is rewarded. We can all attempt shots beyond where the talent runs out. I played off 3 at 16 but that was nearly 50 years ago. I accept I can't bomb it and never will but I try to play to my strengths.

I like the way OMP manages the course with what his game can do, he never hits a shot he can't pull off. When I first started to play golf a "coffin dodger" gave me the best tip ever. Play the hole backwards; he said to find your best yardage for the approach shot then subtract that from the hole yardage and then hit the club that gets you to point "A". i.e. 380 yd par four and I want 125 yds for the approach (perfect pitching wedge for me) so my tee shot needs to ~255 yds , so a 3 wood or 2 iron depending on wind and ground conditions. This helped me immensely as I struggled then and do now with shots less than 100 yds. I hope that helps good luck.

Playing off 19 I find my course management to be one of the most inconsistent parts of my game. Green/Amber/Red is the way to go, but I tend to forget sometimes and go for the 'hero' shot, that one shot I've only ever hit once before, on the range, which then messes with my head. Already been using a 7 to chip and run instead of my 60 (64 is not consigned to the shed) and saved me on more than 1 occasion. Yes, I am also having lessons locally (Sheffield). Keep up the good work Golf Mates!

These are excellent tips from OMP. I was a very long hitter off the tee for many years...but my handicap went from mid to high teens to single digits by employing similar strategies to keep myself from making big scores. I learned to hit into the areas that the course architect designed into the layout that would give me the easiest shot into the greens. The course's I played were much longer, but the principles are still the same. Now that I am in my 60's...I play much more conservatively...and will try to apply OMP's tips to try to get my handicap down from a 15 to an 11 or 12.
