The definitive lesson. I've put in all my strategies and my knowledge. This guide is valid for all the racing games we know today: Assetto Corsa, Project CARS, GT6, Rfactor, Forza Motorsport, iRacing....

like the saying goes, "winners never quit; quitters never win."
@MemphiStig
@MemphiStig 7 жыл бұрын
also, while i agree with you 100% on pacing, Colin McRae's point was, i think, that if you feel in complete control, you aren't going fast enough; you need to push yourself to/beyond the limits if you want to be faster. But that's Colin F'n McRae saying that, and he was always pushing himself to his limits and beyond, in all of life, not just racing. It's not advice for everyone all the time, and in fact it may just have been what took him from us so tragically soon, which is kind of also the point you're making. A little less intensity and you don't die, figuratively or literally. 90% wins and 100% fails. Odd math, but true. (And don't even try giving 110%!)
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 7 жыл бұрын
Nobody can go over his 100%. If someone thinks he's going over 100% of his pace, that means he never reached his limits before.
@MemphiStig
@MemphiStig 7 жыл бұрын
yeah i agree. the 110% thing is a common American sports quote. athletes going into a big game always have to give 110% to help the team win. i mock it by using it. (Fools saying foolish things.) btw i'm following your advice bit by bit, especially car settings, and it's really helping. thanks. it seems like that's the big missing element for me. i don't fully understand all the tunings yet. have you done anything about initial torque on the LSD? or using ballast for weight distribution/balance? i'm not sure how much diff it makes. or if i'm even good enough to mess with it yet. (GT6)
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 7 жыл бұрын
The initial torque affects the car maneuverability in acceleration/deceleration. Low settings it will be more manegeable (good for tight tracks with slow corners), high settings reduce the maneuverability (perfect for fast track with wide corners). For the ballast, more weight on the front usually means more understeer. More weight on the rear, you'll have mostly more oversteer. Usually 50/50 represents the perfection on the car weight distribution.

I really wish people would take your advice and not rage quit. No matter how horrible my race is, I avoid that. Extreme cases, someone has intentionally rammed the hell out of my car and I've probably quit 2 or 3 times as a result. Other than that, I stay in the race to reward the winners by staying on the roster. Anyway, great tips. That pressure one is so true. I do much better when I'm the one following. So many races I've been followed and made mistakes but as soon as I was overtaked, I put pressure on forcing an error to gain the position back. Pressure makes a big difference. Doesn't seem to bother me when karting in real life though.

warren010h I've yet to try online racing; you talk about ramming..... exactly what I'm wondering about..... The amount of that in Battlefield 3 and 4 jets and helicopters has diminished, but I couldn't understand why developers can't or don't make aircraft "collision proof"...... at worst, the defective delinquents' aircraft bounces off the first 2 times, strike 3 they vaporize. Force them to avoid collisions and "fly right". Many of them will still choose to fly left, though :>\ This could be applicable in racing sims, maybe..... I know things get sketchy at tight turns with 17 cars trying to clear the hairpins.....

Here's a pro tip to expand a bit on what was said in the video: generally, do "slow in, fast out" for turns which have a straight after them; but do "fast in, slow out" for turns which have another serious turn right after, especially if the 2nd turn is slower than the 1st. Yours truly, War Thunder air racing champion.

about race quitters: I remember a 10 lap online race on assetto in a GTE class (was driving the ferrari) @Mugello. I started the race @ the middle of the pack (16 cars on track) when i was bumped and hit the grass on the first right uphill turn after start/finish line, in the 1rst lap. GTE cars are way too fast and if they gap you more than 10-15 seconds you won't be able to close the gap in the end. I immediately thought to press the "quit race" button. But instead i got back on track & said myself : ok John, race the hell out of this car and RELEASE the throttle ONLY WHEN NECCESSARY.. i don't have to tell you that this was the best race i ve' had so far, i did some amazing lap times that surprised me, and to add to that, not only i managed to catch up to the rest of the pack in the 3rd lap but i got a solid 5th place as well. So, don't quit races with the first bad luck. Trust your skills, trust your will, they will both surpise you pleasantly of what you are capable of in racing under pressure..

I definitely like your advice regarding race pace. If more racers paid heed to it, they'd get much more for their efforts. Driving at 10/10ths is hard enough in qually. You need some room to react on race day. Driving flat out the entire race while worrying about the opponents is beyond the capabilities of the best in the real world - let alone the online one. Too many sim racers think they're Superman - put 'em in the real cars and they most likely stall 'em just getting off the line. It's just a race, people - enjoy it, even if you're dead last.

Count me in as one of your subs, mate. I'm a veteran at this, but I know I still can learn a thing or five from a good teacher or heeding the advice of a good coach. I find you're a great coach, and if I had less experience you'd also be my sensei. I like what you do - if more would-be Sennas follow your good advice, I have no doubt that online racing would improve by leaps and bounds. Your series is a shortcut to success - follow it and a newbie can drastically flatten the steep learning curve of mastering sim racing.

GREAT VIDEO, GREAT ADVICES. The last one is excellent. I've seen that a lot, especially in young drivers. They just quit. No matter if they're only in the middle and they've raced just 4 out of 20 laps, they quit. Also, I play mostly online and it's so sad to find so many cheaters that make all these advices useless. Even worst, when the game itself doesn't care if you're bumped or overtaken by skipping corners.

I get what you mean about qualification times is the best time to put full effort in, endurance races, especially ones on a time limit instead of lap count, run a whole lot smoother for you if you drive like you would on a back road scenic route. Nice, careful, and concise. I only push the car when the tires have warmed up completely and aren't excessively worn, the rest of the race I just use to burn up time. It's only on arcade time trials where I really push the car to its limits, such as I did with the Audi R8 in GT4, with a very low 5 minute lap time on super soft tires. Speeding in the car makes it feel like any slight bump is amplified tenfold enough to make you skip out and hit the dirt, everything's flying past too fast to humanly react quick enough.

about slow in, fast out: a good exit is important in every corner leading to a straight, but u have to be careful not to go TOO slow in, otherwise u will just lose speed. u kinda have to balance the entrance etc with the good exit and at 8:58 - u dont necessarily have to avoid that kerb. if u watch gran turismo 3 hotlaps u will see ppl using that kerb. and also, have to remember all games are different, this exact kerb might work differently in another game etc

4th curb - gutters use these *ONLY* during the apex to tighten your car's grip, useful for cars with moderate to high suspensions, crap for lowriders since you'll just scrape the underside and kill your car.

Thank you for this video, the two things I'd admit I do is going 100% effort during the actual race and been under pressure from the car in front or the car behind. Feeling the pressure is the worst out the both, next time I race online I'm just going to focus on my race and not let the car in front or behind put pressure on me which makes the chances of a mistake go well higher

How to be Fast Including corners ? Easy ! But I'm going to show The cornering only.... But it depends on your Driveway, FWD Car : Brake at the curbs, then When cornering Pull the brakes off then turn AND DON'T HIT THE THROTTLE But floor it when exiting the corner ( Tried this trick on Gran turismo 2 with a Celica and it really works ! ) RWD Car : Brake at the curbs, Then Floor it a little But if you're over steering but still managable Then drift it ! But if you're not then hit the throttle like 15% - 35 % But if it's too much You're oversteering and could cause a spin out 4WD car : If you're 230 Km/h+ Hit the brake ! ( Depends on the corner thought... ) Then enter the corner with 25 - 50 % Throttle until the end of the corner then when you're exiting it Then FLOOR IT ! Well... I've tried it all in video games EXCEPT The RWD car, I've tried that trick with my 370z When I'm doing a track day On Sentul and yes... From time to time It really is working No Joke ! ( Since my tires is A Normal High grip street tire )

I want to learn about how cars work and be good at this game but I am a total beginner. It is daunting but I will try to get good.

I think speed has a lot to do with driver confidence and of course the track and car class. Another thing that could hamper speed is the frequency of braking and wide turns. I could be wrong, but its just my theory

During races you have to give everything you've got, not going hard is not how race drivers think. I know this from experience because I am a race car driver myself

I think what he meant is keeping momentum & maintain consistensy, key to good race pace.

great video mate, very instructive! could you add some part about breaking techniques? i play gt6 and always get impressed with the top guys, they are like 2 sec faster than me in average. i already downloaded several playbacks and i think is only about breaking differently :) thanks! great job!

I should've got a wheel,but went against it as it makes leaderboard times so easy to beat,race with analogue and it's more fun seeing those with wheel becoming unstuck as they're getting overtaken by the stickman,race all games and to me i liked toca,forza2 and liking project cars as under a different name now,still race analogue and raced viperconcept and beat him all times i race him,maybe that's why he avoided me.

Exploiting the track (for me at least) is sometimes challenging. Mostly at the oval tracks as I tend to scrape the walls lol and with the curbs. The ones at road America kill me all the time

12:25 - The f*** do you mean, "everything can happen?" :: Rounds the next corner :: Oh... oh, my... Didn't see that coming. Good example. haha Great videos. I came across these wanting to get into these games and learn a bit I don't end up like the people ramming into everything and ruining races for others. Much appreciated.
