Nice video! Thank you! I'm working on my beach starts and I found out that it helps a lot to place your back hand just a little bit forward to where you want to put your back foot. Otherwise you just end up missing the board or stepping on your hand... Plus for anyone considering to give it a try, I'd highly recommend to wear boots, because chances are you're gonna kick your trailing edge quite a few times! ;) Cheers from France! 🇫🇷 🤙

I'm certain you make this look a lot easier than it is. I'm preparing to start foiling with an experienced friend and beach launching would be an ideal tactic to learn. I've been paddle surfing for 49 years and this looks like a direction I would like to go. The old shoulders can't take the strain of constant paddling and duck diving much longer. Thank you.

Hi Roy, Zane definitely does make it look very easy! Great combination of energy and technique. We'd suggest getting dock starts dialled in first if you can. All the best, enjoy!

What size is your mast? What do you consider a short mast to start with?
@AKDurableSupplyCo5 ай бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, Zane is using a 70cm mast in the video, which is the length we would recommend starting with.

Thanks for sharing 👍 does it help if you learn how to dock start first?
@AKDurableSupplyCo2 жыл бұрын
If you can, it definitely would help to get dock starts dialled in first to make sure you have the rhythm to keep going sorted. Beach starts add additional variables and are definitely more difficult. If you don't have a dock close by, setting up a folding ladder in still water is another good option.

great video, mad skills. I'm using an axis tray 94cm board for dock starts. For beach starts is that too small for learning?
@AKDurableSupplyCo2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, the Axis Tray is probably fine for learning how to beach start, although where you might struggle is if and when you come off and need to try and paddle into a wave, or paddle back to shore. That's where you'll need to make sure you have enough volume to make it back to the beach safely.

@@AKDurableSupplyCo Ok thanks so much. Unfortunately where I ride waves big enough for prone are rare anyway.

Hi Alain, thanks for reaching out. Most people like to use a foil that is at least 1600 or bigger.

At 1:13, ru saying "short mast"?
@AKDurableSupplyCo2 жыл бұрын
That's correct, Tim. The automated captions are slightly off, but he says "Then comes the most technical part of a beach start, and that's being able to jump up to your board and clear the height of your mast. This is why I recommend starting off your journey for beach starts with a short mast. The shorter the mast, the less you have to jump up onto the board from the sand…”"
@Crimsontraum72 жыл бұрын
@@AKDurableSupplyCo I come from a windsurfing background. What is the mast?
@AKDurableSupplyCo2 жыл бұрын
@@Crimsontraum7 Relative to hydrofoils, the mast is the tall upright structure between the board and the fuselage, creating a clearance between the hydrofoil and board. Finally, are these boards with foil super heavy? Can I walk 5 blocks with one, or would that be hard to do?
@AKDurableSupplyCo Жыл бұрын
Hi Monroe, our foils and foilboards are made out of an ultra-lightweight EPS core covered by a carbon construction, making them super lightweight and strong. You should not have a problem carrying one of our setups.

Can you recommend an affordable beginner foil board setup that’s good for both beach starts and also paddle starts? I’ll be doing this at South Point in Miami Beach.
@AKDurableSupplyCo Жыл бұрын
Hey Monroe, the board we recommend for beach starts, pumping, and surf foiling is our Phazer foilboard, the board seen in this video. The Phazer foilboard was carefully designed with Zane to create an ultra-versatile foilboard that can be used for may different applications.

how much do you weigh and what size is that foil?
@AKDurableSupplyCo Жыл бұрын
Hi Anton, I'd need to check in with Zane on those details. In general, the Plasma hydrofoils come in 1000, 1300, and 1600. As a guide for surf foiling and pumping, depending on rider weight: Plasma 1000 for 55 - 75kg, 1300 for 60 - 85kg, and 1600 for 80 - 100kg riders. is that electric or how does that thing move?
@AKDurableSupplyCo2 жыл бұрын
Not electric, but powered by the riders movement Louis. As the water is pushed downwards by the hydrofoil, an upward force is created by the water. This upward force lifts the person out of the water, and is maintained by a pumping motion to generate continuous lift.
