Since I’m not a moron without any ability to google “where to buy lanyards?” I found this video very helpful. Ignore all the ignorant comment about background noise and crap. Keep beading...and posting! There are people out here watching and learning and grateful for you sharing a moment from your day.

Very interesting. I want to make one now. ❤️ For safety, I don't want it to just hang on my neck, in case it gets stuck on something and strangles me. I would make one end a loop, and other end a hook or button. Then put a metal key ring for the keys or identification card.

Good luck finding someone to sit and teach you; for free. They all ask for cash to teach and it's not cheap they ask for. I know that because husband asked ppl to teach him but money was asked for, so he just bought the art work, took apart and taught himself. So just best for you to try to learn here on KZbin.

that kinda looks like bolo cord but I dont think it is, it looks more like silver welt....If i was a betting man i would say that is white buckskin, When i make mine i use bolo cord or you can use thin nylon rope and take out the center of the nylon rope "white rope inside" then i take a generic pen and take out all the "guts" and ur left with just the plastic cylinder. i put that around the bolo cord and bead around that, it makes it alot stronger and your beads dont "move" around as much or get pushed in after your done and wearing it.
@bevdowdy94838 жыл бұрын
what supplies are you using please? What is the silver cord, what size are your seed beads? I'm completely and totally lost with what you are making sorry
@karie98906 жыл бұрын
Hi Bev, I think the cord is something you can get at Tandy Leather. It looks like a bolo tie string. You can get them in several colors. I'm with you though. I felt it was almost a complete waste of my time. It's really a pretty stich, but the camera needed to be closer, and instead of visiting with the camera man, it would have been helpful to tell us what the white wrapping was, and to explain stich by stich how to do it. And the name of the stich. I hope this helps.. Good luck!
@joanieh4854 жыл бұрын
It's called a gorge stitch. She used scrap leather and glue to attach it to the lanyard. She started with five beads for the first row. The second row is done by putting a bead on and skip the next bead and so forth.

That’s how it’s always been for my family. Growing up, you were expected to watch and learn how to do things. When I was taught how to hunt, clean animals and do beadwork or other craftsmanship, you just watched how it was done. Then it was your turn to remember how to do things and apply what you had learned to whatever task was at hand. I hardly remember my dad explaining things. He just told me to watch and learn and that’s how I was taught.

@Miss_circleedits8 жыл бұрын
I believe it is gourd stitch...as for beads size...it would be up to you...either 10/0 or 11/0...I believe she is giving example....pretty much you can start with any kind of cord even pre-made lanyards....just start from the bottom I guess..and search for gourd stitch tutorials....that's my guess.....I am thinking of trying this too...never did it either...LOL
@bevdowdy94838 жыл бұрын

It is what you use for bolo ties. comes in different colors NOT vinyl or wire
@karie98906 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's bolo tie string. I think you can order it from Tandy Leather. Yes, I wish she would have explained stich, by stich and named the stich. I think I heard her say she was using "pig scraps".(the white stuff) So I assume it's pig hide. Good Luck!

@satines18847 жыл бұрын
Angela Mccoy it's also called peyote stitch. You basically alternate beads. you put the thread through a bead, put a bead on your thread, and thread through the second bead from your needle. I hope that makes sense.
@karie98906 жыл бұрын
This isn't a Peyote stich. It doesn't look like a peyote once it's finished. Very close, but not the same.
@yoyosmyname7 жыл бұрын
If you bead this is self explanatory. It's not really a tutorial. She just shows how she does it. Natives bead differently and bead a lanyard differently. I don't understand why ppl ask.
@karie98906 жыл бұрын
Well you said it yoyosmyname. "If you bead".... well, some of us are not native, and haven't been beading all our lives, or have been raised around wonderful ancestors that do bead & teach while doing so. I admire her talent and how super fast she works. I just want to learn....

Why aren’t you saying anything? I hear you mumble cotton thread and I hear a lot of ambient noise in the background including who I assume is your son. However, you don’t get us started in anyway. It would be a lot more helpful if you laid out the tools we would need so we could follow along and described the instructions step-by-step as you did them so we could do them too.
@Skyspiders5 жыл бұрын
I was really interested in watching this video but I couldn't watch it. Loud awful unrelated distracting and unpredictable noises, horrible blurry images- shaky cam- jarring camera angle changes very little clear indication of what exactly is being done or whats going on. I think the worst thing is the audio. I like to watch crafting videos at night and I have a roommate who sleeps nearby and the loud unpredictable noises wake them up so when I watch a video that seems quiet but suddenly and unexpectedly introduces a cacophony of loud sounds- Like an old fashioned land-line phone ringing suddenly- It's really frustrating on many levels. For example - If I want to wear headphones so I'm not bothering my roommates or partner- Im risking dealing with these loud awful sounds directly myself while turning the volume up and down accordingly. Then if I just turn all the sound off - and the person who's uploaded the video has allowed auto-subtitles but hasn't taken the time to check them- the subtitles are inaccurate and often-times they don't even make sense so then I have to risk turning the audio back on and replaying the piece again and again and taking the chance that some other loud sound will play through. If you can, I suggest learning to do the bare minimum of video editing. Which is to record your audio separately and then overlay that audio atop the video that way you can do your recording however you are able- but not be putting out a video that people like me can't risk watching even if they want to because your audio is chaotic unpredictable and at times far too loud to play on headphones or play carefully at home while others are resting, then in the next moment too soft to understand what is being said- or involves either you talking to someone we can't even see about something completely unrelated or even about the project itself unnecessarily. If this is out of your grasp then I suggest trying to film projects at planned times/places when/where you know your environmental noise levels are going to be predictable and uninterrupted. I just thought I would let you know that I was very interested and wanted to watch your video but found I could not do so - and then share with you why I felt I wasn't able to do so even though I wanted to in the event that such feedback was in any way wanted. I hope that if it is wanted it helps you to improve your videos in the future if that is your wish. I know I'd like to see this sometime- if the audio quality or the subtitle quality or videography ever improved. Thanks for sharing though!
