Glad to see the black deck struggle isn't just a *me* thing. It's the last deck I'm attempting to gold, and I've probably gone on about a 20 loss streak trying to get there, it's maddening. I've even had one or two runs with what I would consider godly set-ups just barely die at the 8/8 boss due to that lost hand.

------------Spoiler-------------- I think the reason why the last run failed was not because of the wrong discard strategy but because of the wrong play strategy. With the card sharp two 'two pairs' would've probably been enough and way easier than playing two full houses. Probably playing three two pairs would've been possible too.

I don't think two Full Houses was too ambitious, and I do think it was a little unlucky to not draw into two of them. But knowing that Two Pair thrice was enough points (given the newly acquired Card Sharp), then going for Two Pairs had no chance of failure.

@ the odds of winning are 10% if I recall correctly, which was explained by Balatro university… it’s hardly worth playing the black deck on higher blinds because of this. That’s called unfair and complete luck based, zero fun and completely unbalanced. Just try black deck on gold blind and you’ll see how stupid it is.

This is the last win I need for Completionist+ and it's so hard... Spent an entire evening trying but couldn't make it past ante 6 and most runs died way earlier than that. The lack of hands leaves you poor all the time which is bad enough by itself, but the rental jokers are just pretty much curses here early on, you can't pick them up or you'll end up in the negatives soon enough. It's extra painful when the rental tag is on econ Jokers, making most of them useless. This is the only deck that just feels plain bad to play on Gold, the others are fine. I feel like I need to skip early for either a free shop or $25 or otherwise I'm fighting an uphill battle from the go. I lost so many runs yesterday that I started to doubt my ability in playing the game, but it's hard for even top players like BU like this video shows.

I don't get why you didn't grab tarot merchant, on the 2nd run, after just picking up vampire, I'm surprised you never even mentioned it. I feel like getting a chance get something that would give enhancements, that you can carry in with you and you can place on cards you know are going to score could have been pretty helpful. I'm curious as to why you didn't even seem to consider it.

I don't like how higher stakes achieve their difficulty through debuffed jokers. Rental+perishables and eternal commons becoming duds in 90% of the situations, they don't add much except taking shop slots and making you starve in early to mid game. That rental bus you took in game 2 eliminates almost all sources of income: big and boss blinds give you 4$ and 5$ respectively for 3$ average for a blind per ante, which you need to pay for the bus. That all but eliminates interest as another source together with hermit and hurts temperance for which purposes rental still counts as 1$. I understand randomness is in the nature of the game and tying difficulty to just increasingly bigger numbers on blinds will not be enough- you'll still have either not enough or 10x over. Still I find excessively restrictive nature of debuffs hard to enjoy.

I got my first gold on the black deck because having one extra joker slot for the late game seemed way too good. You can win the early game with a combination of some decent common mult and chips jokers anyway

if that is the issue why not just use the extra joker slot to carry a money or hands/discards joker. Sure, you have to buy them, but you only have to pay for them once. A gold joker is worth more than one extra hand
