Goes back way before dark souls, even existing in tabletop RPGs to describe similar concepts of hoarding powerful items and using them to crush low-level opponents with ease.

While I don’t follow the guides, it does teach me a lot about how these games work which I use in regular play throughs. So while I’d probably never do a no upgrade build, I would certainly use what I’m learning here to better my general play style and integrate it into my builds.

you'll get to a point where you want to enforce unnecessary restrictions just for funsies. Even the meta soul level is an unnecessary restriction, just widely used. Because it makes the game more fun, for "most" people. Aka the pvpers. Otherwise, level away :D

The pvp meta level isnt there for challenge. Its there for diversity. If everyone was max sl, everyone would just be a fast rolling havel using soulspear. At 120, you have to make the choice of what your stats are.

Honestly this was pretty fun to do i didnt do the dlc runs since i havent gone through them legit yet but with just the dsa i had a tone of fun in highwall as a helpful sunbro getting my medals with a few invasions here or there i would like to add however that most if not 85% of invasions i encountered a password summon who had beaten the game well over 2 times the no upgrade route really isnt necessary but hey i got this game as a gift for me and my gfs first year anniversary in nov of this year so i am super late but extremely enjoyable nonetheless ymfah your vids are amazing and i rewatch them all the time never stop my friend 😏

I liked to call this run the "Honorable Twink" run. Part of me wants to respec my character in an effort to use Old Moonlight, just to prove I had to at least kill Midir to get it (can't drop spells), but that would kind of defeat the purpose of the build.

Yeah, you're right. But I like to dream. Of a world where people can twink with something other than DSA. Like the Drakeblood Sword. Go Chaos or Dark. 100 damage fire/dark, over 70 on others, unupgraded. Disgusting, and probably useless. Gives more AR than DSA, only a little less in physical/lightning, and every elemental damage type scales with int/fth respectively. God help the noobs.

You get dark hand really early as well so that's great. Honestly it is a good starting weapon for anyone, it gets you through a good portion of the game before it starts lacking in damage. I made this kind of a build not so long ago. But i ended up leveling intelligence to 30 for pestilent mist. Mainly for midir, as well normally if i do a faith build i actually start with investing intelligence to 30 for pestilent mist right away. Why because the fastest way to get the rank required covenant items for sun bros is cheesing rotted greatwood over and over. Then just respec and switch it to faith.

I did this somewhat recently, being inspired by your original Firekeeper Twink video. With a few exceptions, it's vastly harder than a SL1 run. For those curious, I'll break down some of the more noteworthy parts of my run: I ended up respecing to use D's Gnawing on Demon Prince, but that was the only time. Speaking of, Demon Prince was probably the hardest fight in this run, as he seems almost impossible. When I beat him I was so shaken that I miss pressed my PS4 buttons and messed up the recording. He probably took me 20 minutes to kill though, or close to it. The attempt I killed him I didn't think was going to be it, so I was just baffled that I was still alive like 15 minutes in. I actually used dragon form on Midir (I hit him with the dragon hands for pretty okay damage), which was probably a vastly less optimal method but oh well. Midir isn't that hard once you know the fight, so other than it taking over 15 minutes to kill him he only killed me once. Halflight was annoying as hell. I beat them, but it just felt like luck. I know the fight wasn't meant to be played that way, but using these limitations just amplifies how bad the fight really is, at least in PvE. Gael is a fucking mountain. I used largely the same strategy as in this video, but I fought him unlocked* with the Dark Hand since its hit box sucks balls. Killing him with this method made me feel like I knew the game better than I possibly ever could. Dodging him unlocked while aiming at specific parts of his body is not something I thought I'd be able to do when I first started playing Souls games. I don't believe I got the Dragon Slayer's axe (killed Pontyff before I thought to do it). Incidentally I ended up using the Dark Hand on the majority of fights, even Aldrich. Don't do this to yourself if you don't have to. I was just too lazy to figure out optimal strategies. That all said, if you use summons of any kind during this run you're a casual loser. Fight me scrub. (Seriously, I don't recommend summons, as it kind of defeats the concept of a challenge run). I can't remember exactly, but I believe my run took me around 30 hours. For reference, my SL1 run took less than 15. *If you fight him locked much of the time the Dark Hand will just whiff, even if you're touching him.

Funny how it seems that the "real" experience of DS3 comes with this extreme self limitation. By "real" in that case, I mean "use the most of the game mechanics to face several situations". Playing the game with a normal approach, you virtually have never the need to use other things aside your main build. And I find it a bit sad.

This reminds me of a bug I recently found out. You can summon someone with a password (red or white sign doesn’t matter) and they don’t get the de-level debuff. So it can be so much easier to make a twink if you have a friend that knows how to do the glitch. Though if you make _this_ character, I believe you should do it alone. Suffer to make others suffer...?

Lord of Cinder can be parry. PRetty useful on phase 2. You bait his jumping attack by being at medium range, parry the attack and you can do some good damage. Not critical attack possible, but you can hit a few times. Rinse and repeat, and you don't have to deal with his short range attacks.
