The problem is that the britons isnt a weak faction, its units and economic structure are very solid, and they expand very fast. The "skirmish" trick would not work against Missile Chariots as they are annoyingly fast Its very interesting, when playing as britons it is easy to defeat the germans with the help of the "headrulers", just as when playing as germans it is easy to defeat the britons, due to the phalanx To play as gaul vs britons and Germans is a nightmare LoL

Holding river crossings even works wonders against egyptian charriots. Once saw two skirmisher units kill a chariot lord, while only covered by two peasant units. The other time i saw two units of pajama warriors hold a river crossing against some fourteen eastern units, all pushing eachother off the bridge. The water had beautifull colors that day...

Teutoburg was not even the biggest problem. In the past the Romans had suffered even worse defeats, i.e. at Arausio they lost 90-100 K men, not to mention the Punic wars were their casualties ran into the hundreds of thousands! The thing is the Romans of old always fought to the end, that is, their enemies' end via destruction or conquest. At the time of Teutoburg there was hardly a trace left of the old Roman spirit. The Romans of the 3rd century BC would've plucked out the entire Black Forest with their bare hands, so the Germans would have nowhere to hide, then beat them to a bloody pulp.

The hard thing about Germania in Rome Total War is all the morale lowering units in the roster. On VH, morale is everything. Night raiders and berserkers scare enemies just by being near them, screeching women add to this effect. So you end up with a -4 to -8 morale just facing them in battles without a general! Even with a general, expect a -4 morale when attacking them if they have night raiders, berserkers, or screeching women!

Germania AI in campaign usually spams Spear warbands and skirmishers (and sometimes barbarian cav), but never seen any Berserkers or Gothic cav. Probably because either I defeat them very early on when near them or their economy is in shatters because of the spear warband spam.

Their towns grow too slow, spearmen band is too big,so they only have access to upgraded buildings in Damme. They never found out my peasant migration expansion trick 😁

I remember playing with the Gauls amd having hard time with them and almost every victory over them was Famous Site Battle :D. So You can beat them easily(medium) but you need atleast one cavalry unit. In order to hold their infantry with yours and charged them behimd with cavalry so they flee over concern over exposed flanks.

Then how on earth are you supposed to beat an anti cav unit with a general unit. I get the strategies that you suggest with surrounding and the ai is actually that dumb to fall for those kimd of tactics but when i compare units, i look at it from a multiplayer perspective with the additional bonus on how a enemy unit preforms on Very hard difficultly and build an army that is effective against it to win more battles as well as reducing casualties.

Germania is extremely easy to beat. I can do all their armies in with only 4 light cav units from any faction. I just simply feign charges and have a unit to a few follow me then destroy them in detail. I repeat this and win very easily and quickly.

Well Lugo, another good video on how to defeat a certain faction. Germany have very bad armies against horse archers factions like Scythia. In my campaign there are more annoying and dangerous than the Romans. Sometimes the Britons or even Dacia defeat them, but sometimes happen the inverse and end in a draw with Scythia attacking and the Germans defending the border but never one defeat another. Also in the start their economy is atrocious, what give you a very good advantage to attack them and wipe out early(is you play Britain or Gaul mostly). After seeing this video I wonder if you can talk about armies composition from other factions to beat certain faction and all their units (early units, late units, etc). Any way very good video. Pontus is very strong in campaign but their not hard to beat due to how many eastern spearmen they spam. Just use superior pikes against them as macedon or Greece and there is literally nothing Pontus can do to beat them

Thrace is considered a barbarian faction and to beat Germania, just spam pikes against them. They are one of the few factions that have no solid counter to pikemen

What i love about R1tw germania are the screeching women, and according to writings these were a real thing If we are to believe the accounts in certain events these guys got demoralized and fled back to the camp, but upon the appearance of the wives they had to act as the absolute alpha males that they are and they turned back and fought like gorillas, like what the fuck!

Make peace with Gaul, go 100% after Britons this includes keeping one general to absorb all the slaves so you can build a port ASAP. Take out Britons then conquer the Gauls who have now built up their towns then take on the rome recruiting two handed axeman once available which are unstoppable en mass. When attacking or defending Scythia just make sure you have half archer half pike armies and they can’t do anything to get you.

it really is pointless to fight them before the Marian reforms when your troop quality goes up dramatically. Not only are the phalanxes unbeatable from the front, they also have noble archers, which have an insane range and do a lot of damage.

Britain is the true powerhouse in the north. It's the chariots! They autoresolve much better than other units. That's basically why Egypt always dominates the east.

How to defeat Germania: 1. Place forts on chokepoints that used to belong to Dacia. 2. Slowly, steadily and brutally conquer their settlements, taking at least 2 to 3 turns for stability sake, you certainly don't want their settlements rebelling 3. Destroy at least 3 big germanian armies per turn, because these motherfuckers can absolutely lose 12K units and still showing up another 12K two turns later 4. ???? 5. Profit

How to win mass horse archers or mass phalanxes or chariots

just in open battles for horse archers or chariots: use a mixture of a small number of spearmen and archers, and a lot of heavy and light cavalry. wear the horse archers/chariots down and then send in the foot soldiers in for the kill. on the strategy map: use cheesy strats and setup forts with one or two weak units; purposefully lose a sally/siege battle. the horse archers/chariots are now trapped inside the tight confines of the fort walls and can easily be dealt with by any mix of infantry and ranged (especially onagers etc.). for taking on pikes: the classic hammer and anvil strat that has been used since the time of alexander the great.

Win the game before you have to fight them. Their phalanx are a bitch to deal with and that's their weakest unit. In Rome 1 I've watched phalanxes turn 180 while in melee combat from behind.
