Thank you very much for her your service and this video. We had a aluminum wood patio installed years ago. We decided to close it up big Windows all around. The guy put in the windows drilled holes into our drip gutter and when the heavy rain came the water came into the room. It was the disaster it was like a waterfall coming through the windows. You gave us ideas on how to open up the gutter re -caulk the nails, reseal and close up the gutter then add flashing. We are always open to suggestions please let me know if you got any ideas. 😊

I have an awning like that. I had to remove it for some construction - a roof and remove rotten wood from built-in gutters. The contractor put shorter facia boards up and now I have to try to reinstall it by adding some kind of board. Your video shows how I can put it back together. I myself removed it so I think the only thing I need are screws, caulking and the header board. I still have the posts standing. I scrubbed each panel off and am going to paint with galvanized zinc paint. What I did notice from having it on for 8 years is moss would grow on it and it was impossible to reach. So I'm hoping this spray will help with that. Thanks for showing. I hope you are enjoying it!

We are at the beginning of this awning project and this overview nailed it. Liked and subscribed. One tiny “rub” for me as a woman ( handy but less experience with big projects) was the phrase “the wife”. “My wife” sounds better to me. No offence, just humble feedback. Looking forward to future videos. Thank you for the quality and care. 😊

Looks like a lot more work and skill required, than a normal HO would have. A possible solution if had to have the patio cover by this particular maker...would be to purchase it AFTER you had a labor bid to have it installed professionally by a well rated installer. And it might even be cost effective just to get bids from several local contractors, for parts/labor, using their own preferred aluminum patio cover maker...and to fit your own patio.

Hiya! Thank you so much for this video! So much better than the 4 Seasons one. One question - we’re completely stuck at panel installation stage. Can’t get the panels to snap into each other. You mention that it was hard for you as well, but any tips at all to get us unstuck? Start on one side and move inward? Start inward and move out? Keep one side out of the channel etc Will take any tips! Thank you!
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
We started with two panels on the ground to test fit them together and see how they snapped together. You have to tilt one panel about a 30 or 40 degree to the other as you line up the edges that snap together. Then bend the angled panel flat with the other. When the fit is correct it should kind of snap together then work the "snap" down the seam until they are both joined. When you put them together up on the awning off set the ends of the panels about 1/2" or so so the back edge can clear the channel that is installed on the house. You can't put them together with the end in the channel on the house because you won't be able to tilt the panel 30 or 40 degrees. Once you have them snapped together you should be able to lay them both flat and slide the last piece back that 1/2" or so into the channel. Once you get it figured out doing one or two you'll be able to use this method and it will go fairly smooth. The trick is the tilt angle to start and then making sure they are "snapped together as you lay them flat then into the channel on the house. Hope this helps and I wish you the best on your project.

I build these everyday for a living. I work for a company that sells to local customers and I’m very familiar with all products from four seasons. I think it’s awesome to watch a diy video of the work I do everyday. And this build is pretty basic. I call it the “hanging channel” what you slide your flat pans into. I was just curious as to why your kit didn’t come with sleeves to go over your 3x3 fluted posts? It would leave the finish a lot nicer.

I would also like to know why it didn't come with the sleeves to go over the posts. I was thinking it's a shame they didn't come up with something to hide the large bolts that attach the posts.

Thanks for sharing this as this is the first one I have seen that is s real DIY using this system by a homeowner. Also very succinct in your presentation without all the unwanted music or other distractions we see in so many of these contents. It sure appears very cost-effective and hopefully maintenance-free for many years. We have been looking into installing a similar awning over our Deck and this will surely be one of the top choices. BTW can you comment on whether the roof panels are sturdy enough that you can walk on the roof? Rama in NC
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rama, I appreciate your nice comment. I don't believe walking on this roof would be a good idea. The 30lb snow load version we purchased might be able to hold the weight of walking but I wouldn't do it unless it was absolutely necessary. If I did have to walk on it I would lay down a 2' by 4' minimum sheet of plywood to spread the weight over a large area. Also the support track that connects this awning to the facia is only held on with some 4" long #10 or so screws. I think that area would be the weak point for supporting walking. Hope this helps you out and good luck with your project if and when you decide to build one. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for posting! I was considering doing the traditional wood and shingle porch but with lumber prices looked for cheaper and less maintenance alternatives. I found the Four Seasons Optima 22x12 with 40 pound snow load (req in NE) and looked all over for some videos and found yours. It was exactly what I was looking for. Do you have any pointers? Would you say the project would be fairly straight forward for someone who has built a traditional wood and shingle porch? How many inches is it from the top of the hanging rail to the bottom on the hanging channel?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10

It's hard to measure that exactly with it mounted. The hanging channel is about 3" top to bottom. I would estimate about 4 or 5 inches total.

@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
Rules and requirements are different depending on where you live. Sounds like they just want you to draw a picture showing what you are building and where on the property it will be built. The counties I have dealt with usually just want a simple sketch of the property, structures and planned object built. Personally I'd just sketch it out on a piece of paper with a pencil and show dimensions and distances.

Thank you for this presentation because it's precisely what I needed to complete my project. The only hang ups I had came from when I began installing the roof panels. Little buggers gave me some major problems! Your video was the only one I can locate that demonstrates the assembly of this brand. I'm still working on it, but I'm doing it by myself so it's real slow going. I was hoping to read some suggestions in the comments of this vid, but none so far... Oh and aluminum is just better at the house, any way you look at it imo

How did you do? I am reinstalling mine by myself. I had to take it off because I had built in gutters that rotted the wood and get a new roof. I have to buy a new "header" board or whatever it is called that you hook the panels to the house with. I am spraying it with a galvanized zinc coating to help with the moss. I left the end posts all intact. Hope it went well and you are enjoying it.

Thank for a great video. Certainly gives me ideas. Where I live white aluminum gets pretty dirty from some sort of tree sap product. It’s nearly impossible to clean. My only other concern about this cover is that it seems that there are a lot of places were wasps might Climb inside and build a nest. Have you had any problems with either issue? Thanks again

Our awning has only been up for about a week so we haven't had any of those problems yet. We don't have any trees in our back yard so I don't think the sap will be a problem for us. I am concerned about potential wasp nests because we do have wasps here. I have made two wasp control videos here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqqxeKJsgNl9e9U kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIPXk3d8g7Walck Time will tell how well they do in controlling the wasp problems with a structure like this aluminum awning. I'll be keeping a close eye on the issue. Thank you for the comment and good questions.

I would either remove the section of gutter or mount the awning to the side of the house just under the eve. You won't need a gutter where the awning is like mine is set up. My gutters have end caps and start on each end of the awning.

@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
You can attach the post to what ever you want. Remember that the awning will only be as strong as what you mount the posts to. This is especially important when a gust of wind comes along. Attaching them to pavers only could be disastrous in the wind. The awning could lift and be destroyed if a wind comes along.

is that strong enough to put 60lbs solar panel on it? and what was the price difference between the lumber and the aluminum?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 3 жыл бұрын
The awning we purchased is rated for a 30lb snow load. That's 30lbs per sq ft. so I think it would hold a 60lb solar panel just fine. We paid about $500 less for the aluminum than what the lumber would have cost at the time we installed the awning.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thank you for the reply. I am trying to put up 3 60lbs solar panel on it so i hope by the calculation that would be fine as well on a 20x8 ft patio cover?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 3 жыл бұрын
A 20x8 ft patio cover is 160 sq ft. At 30lbs per sq ft it could hold 4800lbs of evenly distributed snow. I think it will do just fine as long as the patio cover is installed correctly per the instructions.

Mark, so far it's holding up just fine. We've had a few storms and it still looks like it did the day we installed it. We had some wind but nothing crazy yet. I don't know what it's wind rating is but I'm thinking it would be fine if you install it per the instructions. As with anything, enough wind could destroy it whether you install it or a professional.

Looks great! Quick question I'm looking at this model... Is the depth as advertised or with the slop does it end up being 7- 7.5 feet or the posts exactly 8 feet from where you mounted the rail? Thanks!
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 3 жыл бұрын
It's pretty darn close to "as advertised" in width. My panels are 8' long. You gain 2 to 3 inches in width from how the panels mount on the rails and that will make up for the prescribed slope. If you use the prescribed slope it will be pretty much exact to the advertised width. That's measuring from the surface you mount the rail to the outer edge of the awning gutter. Mine came out a couple of inches less due to the extra slope I added to the prescribed slope. Hope that makes sense and helps you out.
