An idea for youtube addiction is whenever you feel compelled to search or watch something, write what you want to search on a piece of paper to look up later. At the end of the day you'll find a list of crap you don't give a shite about.

i don't think its a good suggestion, because you are trying to fight an addiction (something that is encoded in you brain, an impulse) with rationality that is not encoded in your brain. to erase an addiction you have to substitute it with something addicting and easy to do, but that it is less problematic or damaging for your health.

It began with the forging of the great bracelets. 3 bracelets were gifted to the omnivores, wisest and most balanced. 7 bracelets were given to the carnivores, great hunters and sprinters. And 9, 9 bracelets were gifted to the vegans, who above all, desire kale smoothies. But they were all of them deceived, for another bracelet was made. In the land of Canada, in an apartment in Toronto, the Dark Lord Kasey, forged in secret a master bracelet to control all others. And into this bracelet he poured his inconsistency, his doubt, and his awkward humor. One bracelet to confuse all diets!

The real evil in the story is the ring itself which symbolizes addiction. It whispers to you, always urging you to give in and put it on ( feed your addiction ). At the end when Frodo is saying farewell to Bilbo the old man asks to see it just one last time.

Listen...I have a 10 year old son and it fascinates me to watch him literally deal with a phone addiction. I've always been obsessed with psychology and always dealt with addiction and raised my self-awareness to avoid addictive items. I always thought addiction involved chemicals going in to your body. But watching him it's obvious that addiction is more about the chemicals released from your body regarding your actions. He goes through withdrawal when I take it away...gets that rush when he gets it back. He lost it once for 2 weeks and 5 days in he was back to drawing and writing short comics and said, "you were right dad, life IS so much better without the phone." Then 2 weeks later I sat on the couch and pulled his phone from out of my spine. He teared up and asked me why I found it. I said I'll just go put it somewhere and he said, "weeeeelll maybe just 2 minutes" and he's been gone since. Before you judge me I tell them I don't deny my hate for the cold and that during winter hibernation is the time to play with it. That being said...I have 2 sons and the other one has no interest so it's not all on me
@jasonk25182 жыл бұрын
@Emily E Henderson you're not kidding. It was really a learning experience for me. Being 44 I'm lucky enough to have been that last generation who didn't have cell phones even available until I was well into college. So I hate these things. And that's good advice...I've been preparing him for it. Each week is his last week with it until the weather changes. And we're very close so I know no matter how upset he gets he'll get over it...so I'm willing to weather the storm. I have an addictive personality so I worry about their genetics as it is and I'm hoping this will be a learning experience to scare him straight later in life. But it was very sad to see him almost cry when we found it and then to see how little-no control he had to stay off of it.
@jasonk25182 жыл бұрын
@Emily E Henderson thank you. Self-awareness is a powerful tool! I stopped drinking when I was 21 because I learned quick I can't keep a 6 pack and have 1 a night. Maybe I'm wrong but I'll play it safe and treat him the same way until hopefully he's old enough to pick up on it himself. He can't go on it to watch one hitting instructional video and then turn it off. I've noticed that about the KZbin pattern too. They'll take you from a hitting video to "related video" abou tmen hitting men to a "related video" about men hitting animals and so on. But for some reason they never link the videos in a related manner to go back to the innocent videos.

BEST SIMPLE way to break internet addiction: never get on your phone for the first hour of your day. That one rule will easily break it. This amazing brain scientist talked about how not being on your phone for the first hour of your day completely changes how your brain reacts to stimuli, dopamine- etc. the first hour after we wake up- our brain is the most healed, most calm, most absorbent of stimuli. If we spend that time being alone with our thoughts, going to the gym, meditating, praying, nature, positive talk to self in front of mirror- etc- we produce a positive healthy dopamine response- non addictive. You will notice your phone to be less and less appealing if you ignore it the first hour. You will crave healthier stimuli created from your own life. If you get on your phone the first hour- it is so overly stimulating- you get an immediate dopamine rush- which only makes you want more- no satisfaction- and sadly your gym time, art work, nature, all the positive stuff is less appealing and your damn phone wins haha. Let’s all bring back the 80’s in 2022- Limit our phone time- less phone, more art. Less phone, more time machines- that’s the power of love
