Flew in Sunday and honestly was tired and not as alert as one should be. Little to no sleep on 8 hour flight from Charlotte, NC. On the Underground a group of guys got on and started playing saxophones and singing peddling for money. I was messing with my IPhone trying to get my new SIM card I purchased in airport to work. I was distracted, tired and frustrated. I put the phone on my seat. The train stopped and I got off WITHOUT my phone, credit cards, and ID's! I was in a state of panic! Went to Underground staff and they told me to check lost and found tomorrow. I rushed to the hotel and contacted my bank cancelling cards. Stressed and tired, I pulled out my IPad to learn a had a new friend request from someone in London. There was a woman on the train who grabbed my phone with credit cards and ID. She found me on Facebook and told me where she worked. I went and embraced this total stranger for her good deed! I rewarded her and was so grateful for her honesty! There are great people here in London. We're having a great time. Application: settle down, take it easy upon arrival and get needed rest before you jump into things. London and all it has to offer isn't going anywhere!😳

Melatonin pills (3-5 mg) before sleeping, beginning 2-3 days before the trip, are also a good help. And a vit B-6 pill during daytime, for the nervous system.

For me, it’s all about what time you arrive at your destination, I did Kilimanjaro in october, and got in there at 8:30 pm, after a 24 hour travel day, so I tried to not sleep on the plane, and just slept when I got there that night, which was only about noon denver time, which is where I live. But, when I went to London in 2019, I got a couple hours of sleep over the Atlantic, because we landed at 9am London time.

For sleep: antihistamine Over The Counter medication like Benadryl is great for sending me to the Land Of Nod. As for the noise on the flight: headphones with the fitted foam or rubbery plastic pieces that fit into the ear (forming a seal that sound waves, moving air, can’t penetrate), or earplugs that fit into the ear. Block out as much of the drone as you can.

Sleeping on a plane. Ha! Funny! I just stay up for +/- 30 hours straight and that jet lag is beat when I fall into a coma on the first night at my destination. I would love to figure out how to sleep on a plane. Between the motion sickness and the fact that the stupid seats don't really lean back at all, it's impossible. The only way I can maybe get a short nap is to put my travel bag on the little fold down tray and fold myself over on it. Like when you took naps at your desk in school. My back/neck wakes me up after 15 or 20 minutes though. I love travel but long flights are torture.

Can't wait to try it this summer when making our way from Charlotte to Heathrow. My problem: I always get so excited that I have a hard time sleeping. I just trudge through it and stay up all day. Adreneline keeps me going. Don't want to miss out on anything "In the Smoke" as people from Pompey say about London :) cheers Jess

I get excited like that too and between that, uncomfortable seats and motion sickness sleeping on a plane is pretty much impossible. We got up around 7:00 am in Charlotte, landed around 8:30 am London and I was up until to about 8:00 pm London. It's a good thing the Tube is easy to navigate. When we got to the hotel we went straight out and took pictures at Buckingham Palace, Kensington Place gardens and Hyde Park then had dinner at a Turkish restaurant we happened to pass by. I was delirious by the time I hit the bed. Jet lag was no problem after that though.

Amber colored sunglasses block the blue light from screens that mess with sleep. For those of us that don't like coffee, there are caffeine pills in the supplement section of stores. Noise cancelling headphones can be huge help. Instead of blanket in my carry-on, I use some extra layers of clothes, saves some space in bag and keeps me warmer than a blanket.

Great tips Jess and Christi! Many flights from here on the U.S. east-coast arrive in London at the same hour (around 6am-8am London time). Do you have any advice for non-EU passport holders to avoid the hours long line at Heathrow? It's a bummer to arrive after a red-eye flight and have to stand in line for hours at Heathrow for passport control.

I've been several long haul flights, most of them I struggle to sleep, even with sleeping tablets The first time I actually got some proper sleep was from Los Angeles to Auckland as I hadn't ' had much sleep for a couple of nights, and a sleeping tablet helped me get 4 hours of sleep. Agree about trying to stay awake. On one trip didn't work. I arrived to Dubai, went for a walk, was so exhausted from no sleep decided to lay down and watch tv, I remember waking up and it was like 9pm. You can't get these tablets in all countries, but nojetlag tablets do help. There is some special water called 1above, but I don't really like it

Will your book be ready for download by July 1st, 2017? I'm spending one week there with an American 14yo and I'm 61, a not so fast 61 lady. lol. we have distant relatives who live IN London so sleeping isn't an issue. The markets, museums and fun things to do are what we want to end our month long stay in Eastern Europe with by visiting London. We depart from Aberdeenshire.

Hey Jess and Christi, hope you can help with a question. I can't sleep on planes, no matter how hard I try. A few airlines have flights that leave Chicago at 9 a.m. and arrive in London around 10:45p London time. Does public transportation from Heathrow into London run 24 hours, and if so, is it safe? I'm thinking this flight time might work better for me but want to make sure I can get into London without having to take a taxi.
@loveandlondon
@loveandlondon 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Molly! It's not 24 hours except there's a bus that's 24 hours. Also have a look at the Heathrow Express to see what time the last train is.

I'm not going to be able to adjust my sleeping pattern before my flight. I have to get to the airport by 6:00pm and the flight takes off at 9:00pm. I fly to Paris and then Denmark which is a 6-hour jump forward. So my plan is to attempt to sleep right away after taking off to get 4 or 5 hours of sleep and then forcing me to wake up and stay awake which will be 8:00am in Danish time. xD
@CherokeeBear
@CherokeeBear 6 жыл бұрын
@@mssjmason It went okay. My prediction of being able to sleep on the flight was wrong. Haha I could only get half way asleep for 2 hours. It doesn't help I was excited, as it was my first flight ever. But it helped to just not take naps when you get to your destination and wait till night. And no naps at all the days after and I was soon over jetlag.
@CherokeeBear
@CherokeeBear 6 жыл бұрын
@@mssjmason I would recommend talking to your doctor if it's okay to take only half of your sleeping pill especially if you have a connecting flight. Trust me you don't wanna be groggy and out of it when you need to think where you're going.
