I've always explained pokemon speed runs as basically like uisng console commands in a bethesda game to tell the game that you've completed the main quest, it's just RBY's "console commands" are a glitched party screen.

Fantastic video. The Animation helped to see things clearly and I have to ask one thing... how do ppl find these sort of glitches?
@byeguyssry
@byeguyssry Жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure, but I can guess. Most likely, someone found the code of Pokémon Red and figured out how to exploit loopholes. Also, among speedrunners, the saving glitch where you don't fully save the game is pretty well known since this is applicable to more games than just pokemon, so a ton of speedrunners from different games are sharing knowledge on the same glitch. Then, using trial and error, figure out what breaks when you use this glitch and look at the game's code can assist in figuring out the string needed to warp to the Hall of Fame (if I'm correct this is called a wrong warp and isn't very rare when it comes to speedruns of old games) and initiate the end credit sequence.

It's amazing how easy it is to manipulate the data in these games. I got a Mew that bypassed the checks in bank on my 3ds by opening up the pokemon and item slots and moving things in a specific order to force a mew encounter. It may seem intimidating but you can take your time to pull off similar stunts to this speedrun, just reset while it's saving at the right time once and you can do all kinds of stuff.

There are certainly some batshit crazy TASes out there, some games have arbitrary code execution exploits that are so complicated at such a high frame rate that they require inputs a human could never provide in time with a physical controller (and sometimes inputs an OEM controller isn't even capable of providing through its cable at all). But like... there was no need to reference the TAS for this one. The world record credits warp performed by a human is still 1 minute 18 seconds. Humans are pretty crazy too.
