Gotta love when the monster is easier to route for than the humans. While Larry’s definition of friendship may be different from ours, he does genuinely mean it, & he only gets violent when someone is threatening Oliver or gets between him & Oliver. Overall, he’s more of a guardian to the boy than his actual parents ever were. If it weren’t for the whole death thing, this would be an okay option for the kid, assuming Larry’s fine with sharing.

Have to comment as a verbal autistic individual here - learning how to "talk properly" is a LOT MORE FREAKING COMPLEX than the "Nerd Explains" narrator is saying, otherwise, "Speech Therapy" wouldn't exist for the folks with Autism that can actually speak and other people that have trouble with other developmental issues. Just "learning by parental example" often doesn't work, without other therapy, classes, and/or Special Education. If that issue did work that way, almost any kid with a developmental disability would be able to speak. One personal common issue - young kids (and non-verbal folks) often have, to annoying, deal with is spelling issues vs. pronounation issues. One common issue I'd have was confusing my lowercase "b"s with "d"s and vice-versa. This means I could read the word but either write and/or say many English words improperly. And that wasn't even the only problem - some words I'd hear and just end up saying improperly without thinking about it, while others I could say properly but be unable to spell them correctly. (Note: I say college rather than university most of the time because I literally still have to look up how I spell university but don't have to do that for the word college. Keep in mind that I have a college degree as an adult yet still have come spelling issues). Ironically, it seems like Larry is a better person than either of the kid's literal parents because he tries to be a nice guy and listen to his "friend", even if he's failing by human standards. The kid's parents seem like the ones I'd expect to see at an "Autism Speaks" meeting because they can't accept their kid's issues.

One strategy i can think of would be if larry only comes out when you finish the book if you were to take one ipad and leave everything else at home and then go to a open filed and read the story and as soon as you have finished you throw the ipad as a frisbee and run like hell that should work. Or you can take a boat out to a lake or some other body of water and yeet the ipad and for less risk just use a wooden boat with a motor in the back that you move manually

Incompetent parenting, a kid with developmental issues, a ghost that has a creepy story to accompany it. I think I already watched the babadook 🤔.

As someone on the spectrum, I always wonder why do they never show non-verbal autistics knowing or learning sign-language. Also, why isn't Oliver's IEP teacher or therapist a character in this film? I am pretty sure the writers never spent much time or did much research in autistic care out side of applied behavioral analysis which is horrible in helping those on the spectrum do anything outside of masking

I think that's the point? the mother wants him "normal"
@notthefbi7015 Жыл бұрын
@@kaiseremotion854no they didn’t consider that at all. These movies don’t actually research this stuff all they care about is using the disorder to create an obstacle
@AnnaPaulsonDramaChickReviews Жыл бұрын
@@kaiseremotion854 That is how it should be; however, the characterization of Oliver is what I was talking about. I very well could be wrong, but the actor playing Oliver is very likely not on the spectrum, and the directing isn't helping. The story feels like a mute boy whose parents refused to allow him to communicate without tech but demand he acts like everyone else. The fact Oliver is autistic feels like it is a lazy plot device more than a real part of a character.

@@notthefbi7015 Thanks for understanding. I want more autistic characters, but not if they aren't going to put any real effort in it.

Autistic aswell, i get it to a certain degree, people find working with autistic kids difficult, i kind of understand? like as a kid i had a hard time emoting- my mom always yelled at me for having a permanant resting bitch face and a very monotone voice. But people more often characterize autistic kids as a very- emotional side of the spectrum in my expierence or they make them a super genius nothing in-between

Movie producers should sign you up to do their advertising for all these movies. You make them sound good but unfortunatly most are awful 😂 You have given me a few hidden gems but, which is why I check the ones I haven't seen yet out after you do a video on them.
