This is seriously one of my favourite horror films. Such an interesting take on the concept of a doppelganger, and (spoilers!!) the fact that the Addie we've been following the entire film is "the Tethered" is such a freaky twist that I did not expect on my first watch. The fact it tricks you into routing for the other entity just gives me chills.

A situation like this would be terrifying in real life. Imagine an evil version of you trying to kill you. Your evil version knows where you are at any time like they are the monster from It Follows, but you don't know where they are. And they have the advantage in the first meeting, because while you are probably stunned or perplexed at what you are even looking at, they are ready to end you on sight. So they would be in the process of attacking you while you are still wondering if they are a long-lost sibling or something.

The most chilling part about this world isn’t that Addie was replaced by a soulless, sociopath version of herself, it’s that she was replaced by a soulless, sociopath version of herself and nobody *noticed*. They’d all have to be pretty self-interested and unaware for a child to be replaced by a completely hollow monster without them catching it, which seems pretty spot on considering the intelligence we see displayed in this film.

The government program was still going on, most likely when Red was left in the tunnel. So, she took on the experiments that Addie was receiving at that time. Also, it's safe to assume that Red got amnesia somehow when she was knocked out by Addie. The hands across America shirt could have been the trigger to her memory coming back eventually. Hence, the obsession with the shirt.
