▷ ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Kristen, I am 22 years old, from Sacramento CA, and I am graduating in the Spring with my BA in Psychology. I created this channel for three reasons that are very close to my heart. One, to help others be able to tell their stories and be advocates for mental health. Two, to give recovery tips and tricks to help others find the help they need. And three, to spread awareness for mental health issues to fight the stigma surrounding it. The more we talk about mental illness the more normalized it will be in our society and the more people will not be ashamed to get help!

A way I sometimes stop myself is by keeping my blade on the sharpener, so that I have to spend like a minute or two removing it, by which point I quite often calm down and think 'do I really want to do this right now?' This especially works because I tend to do it at night when everyone's gone to bed, so half the time I choose sleep over cutting. I've managed to slow myself down to doing it once or twice a week, which is a lot less than when I was self harming once or twice a day a few months back. I don't quite feel ready to try to stop yet though. Well done for being clean for 100 days, we're all proud of you!

I had a major relapse a couple years after 9 years clean. I was clean for almost a year until I had a bad night a couple week ago. Sometimes it feels really strange because I'm in my thirties and I don't think people realize that self harm is still an issue for adults and it really is like an addiction.

Hello there, I just happened to stumble upon your channel, and I've watched a few of your videos. I love what you're doing! This is incredible, this little community that you've cultivated. I'm so proud of you for staying 100+ days clean. You continue to remain positive for your viewers, but more importantly, yourself. I look at you and I'm like, "Damn, I wish I could be that awesome." I have been struggling for a long time in my distant family. I've lost friends and lost wars, and I'm starting to fade again. I already was ratted out and went to a "behavioral center". I have no motivation to pave a road to recovery after I abandoned it previously, yet some part of me wants to keep fighting. It's small and it's quiet, but it's there... and I think you finally woke up that part that has been dormant for so long. :) I have so many issues and it's really stressing me out typing away about another life that no one cares about. However, I know it's a big step to talk to someone. I'm sure you wouldn't care to read all this, heh. But if you do? I want you to remember to keep fighting. I say that because the words "stay strong" seem meaningless and overused. Keep fighting, my friend! Stay awesome. You're worth it.

I pretend that I am in a canyon surrounded by rocks but very very safe. Nothing can go wrong, I then imagine that pebbles and smooth rocks are being places on me, I am still safe and I can still breath but I feel extremely heavy. I can't even pick up my own hand to do anything. I just stay there until the urge goes away. I also imagine the urge as a mountain or wave which I am hiking and or surfing. As it passes I reach the top and admire the view and tell myself that I am strong for getting to the top.

I cope with my urges by using a common technique I've heard from a lot of mental health youtubers which is whenever I feel an urge I say to myself okay if I still want to do it in 15 minutes, I will (during that time I will keep myself busy by writing out all my feelings in my journal, watch KZbin videos or Netflix or something) and every 15 minutes I just keep saying I'll do it later and put it off until the urge to self harm goes away.

One month clean. Not much, I know, but it's something. When I get the urges to hurt myself, which do come on a semi-daily basis, I just go the gym and work myself sore. It seems to work quite well.

This video is my New Years Resolution. I’ve been struggling with self harm a lot this year and my urges have gotten less frequent. I was two weeks and three days clean but I relapsed today. Last time it was two weeks and the time before it was one week. Each time I get a little better than before but it’s very discouraging when I relapse, then I find one of your videos and I feel less alone, less lost, less weak. Kristen, your videos are helping me more than you could imagine. They give me hope and inspire me to do better. You make me believe in myself again. You make me believe I’m worth the healing and the relapses and the long nights awake talking to a friend to keep from touching a blade. Thank you for all you’ve done for me. I truly mean it. Signing Off~ BT ( boxturtle )

Thank you for believing in us. I'm not going to sit around and wish I don't relapse because I need to stand proud and fight even harder this time. I'm going to get through this. Thank you for all your support Kirsten. And good job getting to 100 days clean, that's amazing! x

I am 2 months clean exactly. It's not much for me, And it hasn't been easy. I have had multiple, multiple times. They way I cope with my urges is to listen to music, read, and I talked to close friends about it sometimes, or I talk to them to keep my mind off things. I mean, like I said before, for me it doesn't seem like a long time or good strategies, but hey, I'm getting here. For anyone out there who is struggling with anything in their life right now, I hope for the best for you. Kristen, congrats and well done on being over 100 days clean. I'm proud of you, and so are thousands of other people. Keep up the good work everyone. 💙

It inspires me so so much to see you recovering! 💙💜💕 I LOVE YOU KRISTEN!!! When I had cats they helped with anxiety tons haha I LOVE YOUR CAT. one thing I do to cope is literally write down whatever I'm feeling. Write it exactly as it is. I will write "I want to cut," or "I feel worthless" stuff like that. I then read over it, take a step back from my anxiety and breathe (Google some anxiety breathing exercises if you aren't familiar with those), then find something to occupy myself. Participate in a hobby, go on a walk, clean something, play an instrument, draw, hang out with someone, listen to calming/comfort/happy music while doing any of these things. Stuff like that. It's a vague coping skill, but if it makes sense that way you can personalize it.

Hi! What I do to keep myself from selfharm is writing down what I want to do in life and where I want to go and who I want to meet and what I want to learn. If I feel the urge, I just look at that and realize that I have a choice. I can selfharm or I can dream. I can get up and do something about my dream. I realizr then that I can do what I want if I choose not to selfharm that day. This is what kept me from selfharm for about 2 months now. I am proud of any person in recovery! I love you so so much and stay alive! There is so much more in life and you can discover it all by yourself!

I'm two days clean but I just recently opened up to friends about some of my issues and surprisingly they were so supportive and nice which exceeded my expectations since some made jokes about suicide and mental illness (which I told them to stop all the time.) but I feel a little more positive about stopping c: I like to play my violin or piano or just crying it out and ranting to friends, or drawing and making speedpaints videos which really helps most of the time

i am depressed and have anxiety i dont self harm though i do get suicidal thoughts but i just start knitting and sometimes i cry because sometimes its the best thing to do. i also write down all the terrible things in my mind. i also draw and if none of those help i cry in my mummys arms because she has both depression n anxiety but to a much more extreme extend. guys you are all strong the reason you are here reading this is so that you can get better if you are in a war with yourself, youre wasting your time youve already lost, you are the only person in the world who truly knows how you are feeling. harming yourself only gives the bullies more power its like loading the gun for the bully its stupid. be amazing love yourself everyone is here to support you

2015 was a really bad year for me, with numerous suicide attempts and whatnot but your videos really helped me. I've been clean for around a year but I relapsed a couple of days ago, and I just can't bring myself to stop? Like, the things that helped me then don't really help me now, and I just don't know what to do and how to stop. But, anyways, I just wanted to say thank you so much for helping me and I honestly don't think I'd still be alive if it weren't for you.

Because I am most likely going to be telling my parents about my possible depression, I’m watching a ton of your videos to kinda re-educate myself in some ways.

(Sorry for my bad english hehe) I think the thing that most help me with self harm is going out with friends or listen to happy music or writing or talking to my parents...

Thank you for everything that you do, and have done to help me. How I cope with urges is I talk to my boyfriend or a really good friend, and we talk about random stuff to take my mind off of it. I have a support group of friends that I can go to for help and it really helps me cope with the urges.

When I feel like I'm going to hurt myself, I write. I always have stories in my head, and writing them out, no matter how crap the end product is, makes me feel better because now I have a much better thing to do which is tweaking those stories.

I used to cope with everything by just going for a drive or by just working on my car for no reason but after awhile that stoped working so i tried cutting. i didn't just like it i loved it! But my sister saw my scars and that put an end to that. That was about 11 months ago and ever sense I've done sex, starving myself, beating myself up, and most recently carved into myself. I used to hold out like you saying that it gets better but I can honestly say that for me it hasn't. At one point i was over 6 months clean but it just got worse and worse until i started to self harm again. I know it's horrible but it helps me and it's the only thing keeping me from trying another suicide attempt. Anyways congrats on bein clean for so long and i hope you keep it up and i hope it gets better for you.
