Lol I was thinking about going to Lone Star too..until I saw the prices. Right now I’m about to start a fire academy through a volunteer program and then I plan on getting my emt cert after and then taking the big test you mentioned for firefighters. Wish I found a place that would pay me to go to the academy! Sounds great but I don’t think I have the swag to get picked out of 150 other candidates..I’m an 18 year old tryna become a career FF hopefully soon after maybe a year of volunteer experience! Wish me luck

What city are u trying to be a firefighter, in Houston you just have to have some college credit, and get paid to attend fire academy with 5k bonus before/after completing

He’s just saying you work 2 days on and 3 days off. The 3 days off feels like a mini vacation each time. You’re still getting your full salary

@ Yes they pay for your certs and pay salary, academy pay is like 34-36k. The only deal with that is right now people who attend academy with no certs are urged to get their paramedic (not a bad thing, just difficult) and after completing academy with their certifications they’re getting stuck riding the ambulance for years on end. I’m getting my EMT certification on my own, already got my Fire certification. What that does is get me on the fire truck quicker, and enable me to get a bit higher pay entering in.
