Got any questions about becoming a coach? 🙂
@demoncore53424 жыл бұрын
Just as I was joking with a mate that we should open a gym :) Beside getting some sort of certificate, do you find it important to keep up with scientific papers, studies and such? Do you have to deal with folks that demand 500 pages written by 4 PhD's as a proof, and still know better?
@HealthCoachKait4 жыл бұрын
I try to keep up to date, but nutrition research as a whole is flawed. It's near impossible to do controlled trials for long enough periods of time to come to a definitive result. As far as dealing with people demanding "proof", I don't deal with that much. The average persons looking for results, and is not worried about the "why". They may be concerned about eating too much fat or meat at first just because it has been drilled into us to limit these foods. The people who are "demanding proof" are those who are trying to prove their way of doing things is right, and trying to prove you wrong. Honestly, you have to pick your battles when it comes to individuals like this. Sometimes it is quite evident they are not looking to have a discussion so it is not worth engaging.

Hi Kait! I have a question. So I've been drinking Kombucha for half a week now, ( I decided to do a week long challenge) to help restore my gut, reduce bloating, and to get some good bacteria in there. I suspect that I have candida and seeing as my sugar cravings have reduced massively since drinking Kombucha I think it's helping. My question is: Am I just damaging myself with something that isn't actually healthy? I know Kombucha has a ton of sugar but I felt like the lack of bloating and introduction of good bacteria made it worth. I just wanted to heal my gut because I know gut issues, inflammation etc are directly linked to brain fog, low energy and confusion. Thoughts on what I'm doing?

Great video! Why did you chose PHCI even if you do Keto/Carnivore? Mark is more like Paleo, isn’t he? I really love the contents “how to” become successful coach though.... I am Carnivore-ish like you. I am thinking either Keto/Carnivore coach course (offered by Maria Emmerich) or this one🤔
@HealthCoachKait4 жыл бұрын
I started the PHCI program before I tried carnivore (actually I had done it for a week prior) 🙂 But the program did focus a lot on eating low carb, and only supplementing carbs if you're an athlete or at your goal weight and want to. Still heavily focused on LCHF! It did obviously talk about eating a wide range of low carb plants, which I think can work for a lot of people. But of course de-emphasis on the plants 😜 I haven't looked into Maria Emmerich'd program but honestly the business building component that came with PHCI took the program far and beyond what I could have hoped to have gotten from it. If I had to go back and do it all again I wouldn't even hesitate to choose PHCI again, there was nothing it was lacking.

How much would a newbie need to invest into being a health coach (ie a cert program, filming equipment, etc?)?
@HealthCoachKait4 жыл бұрын
Certification programs are usually $2000+, I believe PHCI is now around $5,000. That is the biggest expense. Beyond that, you can start off taking photos and filming videos on your phone and upgrade as you go along. All my Instagram photos are mainly taken from my phone. Beyond the certification, you're probably looking at about $15/year to for your domain, I pay $14/month for my Squarespace plan.
@HealthCoachKait4 жыл бұрын
I started off filming my videos on an old DLSR, and upgraded after about 6 months to the Canon G7x Mark II which is a couple hundred dollars. I have since upgraded again to a camera that has a plug-in for an external microphone as that was the one downside to the G7x.

@@HealthCoachKait thank you for such a kind and thorough reply! Health coaching has been somethubg I've longed to do for a while, but seems quite confusing to start. Your video was a great primer! My other concern is regarding taxes... Has that been difficult to navigate and figure out? What sort of things are health coaches able to deduct and how much of your income is recommended to put aside for taxes? It's a whole different way of working, which I'm sure has a learning curve... I really appreciate your sharing your experience with this video!

@@summersalix My pleasure! I keep track of all my finances through Quickbooks and then bring everything to an accountant when it is time to file. Last year I was below the threshold and did not have to pay any, but this year it will be different. Are you in Australia? I have read it is recommended to set aside 30% of your income. We are just nearing the end of the financial year and I will be seeing an accountant in a couple of weeks to file - I will be able to give you more insight after that appointment! In terms of what you can claim, anything that is related to your business! I claimed the purchase of my camera, my laptop, all my subscriptions, my coaching certification, even my flight and ticket price to KetoCon last year (and this year although it has been rescheduled). My accountant even gave me a sheet to track how many hours a day I spend working in my home office and I will be able to claim expenses based on that as well.
@summersalix4 жыл бұрын
@@HealthCoachKait thank u again for the great advice and info! It seems having an accountant is quite necessary, especially in the beginning. I live in Canada (but am from the USA) so I'm not sure what the differences are compared to Australia.... I'd have to check that out. This may be a weird question, but since we both are from a country different than the one we live in, do u have to pay global taxes (ie pay taxes to Canada and Australia?). I've heard this to be true in certain circumstances, but not sure if it's legit or not for the health coaching field. It sounds like this field gives a decent amt of deductions, which are quite helpful... And I'm sure it's imperative to be an astute record keeper as well! It seems like there is a lot of work behind the scenes but worth it if it's ones passion! Lastly, major Kudos on the growth of your business! I'm learning a lot from your videos, which have helped transition from a sickly vegan (resulting in an ileostomy/colectomy due to EDS) to a healing keto-carnivore whom wants to help others find their best health. Thanks for taking the time to reply with such detail... It really shows your integrity and passion for helping others! 🤗
