Hi guys. I filmed a sequel to this video where I interviewed a recently qualified solicitor in UK. We discussed so many issues from their personal experience to process, costs and timelines. Check it out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4SUqo2PqbN2bdksi=lkDf039Jk3e_sv3l

Hi, I have an LLB from Iran and an LLM in International Law from the UK. I also have a UK ENIC statement confirming that my LLB from Iran is equivalent to a UK Level 6 qualification. I would like to know if I am eligible to sit for the SQE1 and SQE2 exams or if any additional steps are required. Thank you so much you share your experience and knowledge

@@Sol__Law hey there, thanks for watching. Yes, you should be able to do that I believe. Here’s a link you can check out for more details; www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/admission/pathways-qualification/. I hope this helps.

I am qualified and admitted lawyer with LLB in South Africa. What would be the next step to qualify as a Solicitor. Iam not resident in the UK though.
@FavourBabajamu Жыл бұрын
It depends largely on how long you have been qualified for. Ideally, you can take stage SQE 1 without being resident in UK. You need to be resident however for the next stage. So my advice will be to check if you require the SQE 1 based on your year of call and experience. Then, you can start that process without being a UK resident.

Hi Favour, I love your energy & interlect. I learn't more from your single video about the steps to becoming a lawyer than all the googling I did for the past month to decide whether to study Scots Law LLB or Common Law LLB. Thank you for breaking everything down so simply & with so much of gusto. Also, congrats on getting that part time job at Glasgow University, well deserved. I am invited for open day on 15 June but I may have to go back to South Africa for a month, may miss open day. Is there no way that I can speak to someone from the Law Dept. or possibly yourself before then? I am in a dilemma as I want to study Common Law LLB without the exorbitant fees (possibly online)... as you said... you can get any degree(cheapest done online), do an SQE1, then SQE2, don't even need 2 years of QWE, then apply for a lawyers position at any firm in London, Canada, America, India or England. Please help... thinking of studying Law LLB through Unisa in S.A. as this is the cheapest route. With Brexit issues every penny matters. What would be the route after Unisa degree, I'd like to practice commercial law in England. Please help...

Thank you for the compliment Ricka. I am glad you found this useful. It’s a pity you won’t be chanced to attend the Open Day but you can always direct your enquiries to the School of Law via email on law-llmenquiries@glasgow.ac.uk. The University has a very responsive team and they are always willing to help and render assistance. I am not sure I clearly understand your question but I will like to clarify that the QWE exemption only applies to those who are qualified to practice law in specified jurisdictions. If the Unisa LLB degree is equivalent to what entitles you to practice as a lawyer without more in SA, then I think it’s a viable route for the SQE process. Otherwise, you’ll have to meet all the necessary requirements to qualify to practice law in SA before being eligible for any exemption under the SQE route. Alternatively, you can study any other degree in SA and commence the SQE process in UK. However, you won’t be eligible for any of the exemptions and would have to meet all the requirements. This page should help provide more clarity. www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/admission/pathways-qualification/ I hope this helps.

@@FavourBabajamu Thank you so much... it was really helpful. I hope I get to meet you at Glasgow University if I get an appointment. I'd like to clarify what exemptions I would not qualify for if I follow a BA degree with Maths & Economics...

@@rickasinghbhoola8719 you’re welcome. I am glad I could be of help. You’ll still require the mandatory qualifying work experience and have to take both SQE 1&2.

How many years would this take to do and how can I become a solicitor advocate? I want to be a solicitor that can sometimes appear in court behind the barrister. ❤
@FavourBabajamu5 ай бұрын
@@ramatoulie12 it doesn’t take too long to requalify as a solicitor in UK as long as you meet the requirements. In UK, solicitors and barristers practice separately so you’ll also have to requalify as a Barrister. However, there are some small claims matters you can handle in some lower courts as a solicitor even if you’re not a barrister. I hope this helps
@ramatoulie125 ай бұрын
@@FavourBabajamu I thought you would have to do the Higher Rights of Audience to become an advocate. I was just wondering roughly how many years, as I know to gain a bachelors would take 3-4 years + SQE.

How about studying and doing work experience in Gibraltar? Would that allow you practice in the UK?

Hello there. I just looked up Gilbraltar and I am not certain what jurisdiction that falls under. Whatever the case, you can confirm from the SRA website if it qualifies for an exemption.
