I initially wanted to learn ASL because of a new guy at work who is assigned to my department. He seems very eager to do well & is friendly enough. But none our department knows how to sign. So I decided to learn. I want to be able to communicate with him not just because of work but also to make him feel more comfortable, welcome & included. I just started learning some phrases from your beginners instruction videos & I really enjoy it.

Sign language is a beautiful language and so pure, and the Deaf community is full of such wonderful people. I really admire them. I want to help them have better lives and I want to connect and be a part of their world.

I think fluency in ASL is a great skill to add to my resume. I want to be able to communicate with people who are deaf. I also see becoming a certified ASL interpreter as a way to create a new passive income stream. Today is my day 1 of learning ASL.

Very good advise. I was a preacher for Deaf Churches, I have worked in an agency as an advocate, I used to interpret and now I am happy being an ASL Teacher in a Comm. College. Oh I was also married to a Deaf person for 18 years. I think I will include your video and share it with my classes. Thank you.

I’ve always been interested in ASL. I actually interpret for my friend who is Deaf and blind. I don’t have certification but I’ve learned so much about Deaf culture and new vocabulary. I’m actually majoring in Deaf studies now and then I’ll be on my way to the interpreting program!

I'm interested in becoming an ASL interpreter and I have taken ASL 1A, ASL 1B, and ASL 2A at City College of San Francisco plus I have gotten an A in two of those ASL classes and a B in one. I'm also a published writer with a paper I did for the ASL 2A class titled "Perspectives on Deafness" trough the Writing Success Project.

i love Deaf culture, i basically grew up with it my whole life being a CODA. sometimes i’d go to Deaf Chats, and conventions with my parents and it’s truly amazing. i really want to pursue this career to help others on their daily lives. it only makes me happy when i can! but it’s so difficult finding a university near me that has ASL interpreting as a BA

Great video and very informative. Where are you located? I'm in Los Angeles. I started a degree in Behavioral Science and ASL was a requirement. However, I rather become an interpreter. Less expensive to achieve and definitely rewarding. Can you please give me your take on how to not get overwhelmed or discouraged by struggling to get the speed of understanding and signing? It's intimidating at times....lol

I am a classical musician who is interested in working with the deaf and hearing impaired. I am anxious about unknowingly being insensitive. Are there any online resources that can introduce me to the deaf community?

Hey, I have two questions and I must say I am a total beginner. Number 1: Is there a purpose to the clicking sound in the video? (Sorry if this is a studpid question!) Number 2: This is not related to the video, but are there any determiners in ASL? For example, if I sign "boy" can that mean "the boy" as well as "a boy"? Same for the plural markers. Is there a difference between the sign for "boy" and "boys"?
