Here we chat about some top things needed in order to become a watch dealer or to trade watches professionally.
Full disclosure, in order to become a dealer there are MANY more things that are needed or required. This list is intended to shed some light to watch collectors that wish to cross over to the other side to the world of professional watch dealing.
I'll admit, in the world of luxury watches, nothing beats time and experience. With brands like Omega, Rolex, Patek, JLC, Vacheron, Hublot, things are always changing. In 2019, the Swiss watch industry is being shaken up. It is very important for a watch collector wishing to cross over to watch dealer keep up with the present, future, but also the past in the watch industry.
Also, make sure to engage with fellow watch collectors on social media, KZbin, Instagram, and also the watch forums. Watchuseek as well as The Rolex Forum are both excellent sources for watch collectors that wish to become a watch dealer.
Know your watch brands! Do not focus on just Rolex, Omega, and Audemars Piguet. Many Many Many watches are traded outside of these brands, though many people including experienced dealers ignore them. Keep your eyes on Girard Perregaux, Zenith, Tudor, Romain Jerome, IWC, Panerai, and the others. As long as the watch brand has history or some level of fame, they need to be on your radar.
Knowing how to buy a watch is just as important as knowing how to sell a watch. Generally speaking, watch collectors are pretty good at finding a good deal. Though customer service, being friendly, and also making watch dealer friends is also great to have in your corner !
Please let me know if you'd like this to be a continued series. Thanks !
Thanks for watching !
