Mate what.. Breitling boutiques have sandwiches? 😂 Their watches are chunky but they got sandwiches? I gotta go just for this experience lmao

I bought an Omega from an AD this year. Firstly, it was a wonderful experience. I was invited to an evening party, food and cocktails. My watch was ready for me to buy. Furthermore, I received a goody bag of Omega branded goods. ( travel case etc ) Also worth noting, a healthy discount of 18% off list price if bought outright, or 4 years interest free at list. I wouldn't buy every watch this way, but it was a wonderful experience, not as big a premium as list price suggests, and if the watch wasn't working, very easy to deal with the issue. They also offer unlimited watch strap changes if you are into that kinda thing. So if you are buying a keeper watch, or grail watch, it's a great way to start you journey to making memories.

When preowned it is what you buy. For longest time I bought vintage Omega. I would say that 90% caused me no problems. Then I bought a couple of Tissots they caused me problems. Buy a watch that is quality to start with. I own a 1934 manual Wind Omega. I bought it from Poland. It runs great and gives accuracy in boarding new watches. Also avoid watches have have complications. The strongest used the best is the simple wind no date. I also own a 1949 18k rose gold manual wind black face Omega Tressor with a sub-second dial. It is beautiful. I paid $1500. Today Omega makes a modern version for $17000.

I guess John is a living proof that used dealers tend to be more knowledgeable about the watches. When I went to one of the UK ADs for Tudor the young shop assistant told me a Blackbay 58 was a pilot style watch. Instead John calls George Clooney "Jim" and that's something I have much more respect for. 😂👍

Unless you’re acquiring a GMT or Daytona, I wouldn’t buy for an investment.

Grey market is the only way to buy newer watches. You sell used watches way above gray market price for new.

Maybe I don't understand the Rolex pre-owned program enough, but aren't you basically getting a brand new Rolex of whatever generation it is? Don't they completely go through the watch and do a complete refresh? Something that would of course make most vintage collectors cringe, but might be appealing to more casual watch buyers. For example, if you loved the GMT Coke, you get one with a fresh, unfaded bezel insert, polished to look like new without softening the edges, and a freshly serviced movement. That's not something you could get from anywhere else. Might be worth the premium to some folks.

I don’t believe so: they check the insides, replace anything that appears to be wearing out prematurely. And a top notch cleaning a 1 yr warranty.

I always thought the reason not to get your vintage watch serviced by Rolex was because they would put new parts like dials, bezels, and crystals erasing the decades of patina collectors cherish.@@WestCoastAce27

John, I am finding Grey Market prices of the popular models are falling.. The Rolex CPO prices do seem high and I can't imagine many people wanting to pay over retail and actually the retail prices have been jacked every year for a few years now making them seem out of range. I don't blame Rolex or AP but I think we really might be seeing Rolex and AP prices falling. Also the quality pre-owned dealers will be fine as collectors work out who to trust on price and integrity with the market price.

For my next watch, I want the new watch customer experience with the champagne and celebration of a milestone. This seems impossible with Rolex in the near future though. It's a terrible CX to walk into a boutique with empty display cases.

I think it’s nice to at least once, have that experience of going into a boutique and getting treated nice, getting the extras and making a day of it with a new watch. But now I’ve done it with an Explorer (from Wempe- which was actually disappointing as Wempe are rubbish) and a Tudor Harrods edition (from Harrods -obviously- which was great. Now I’m happy to buy a nearly new watch or grey market and take a big saving. Older watches with high service costs, or chronographs is one time I’d like to buy new as the saving is often offset somewhat by having to then pay out shortly after.

If you can get a reasonable discount for a new one or get a very high in demand watch at the retail, that’s fine but if you’re gonna be wearing your watches, getting a used one is not a bad thing you’ll save a chunk of money and you’re gonna be putting scratches on it no matter what. First scratch hurts the most but after that, it’s just a part of the ownership experience

@@Explorer40mmI think it’s nice to do it at least once but doesn’t need to be for every watch. I’ve got a couple new from boutiques but getting 20% discount on a Reverso that then went up 48% in rrp the following 2 years beats 30mins in a JLC boutique 😂

@@manuel_winde true, the new watch feel is awesome but not as awesome as a 40% discount

Only Rolex(some), AP, and PP are worth it new. And maybe MAYBE some limited edition.

I've actually been to an authorised dealer in England which had the wrong prices on the models and still offered me a discount. My moral compass kicked in and explained , but, it could have been expensive for them.

Not to forget that discontinued models are mostly found pre-owned.
