Hi, I have currently been working within estimator positions for multiple years while also carrying out duties of a quantity surveyor. I am currently looking to further my career with more formal qualifications/education by eventually becoming a chartered quantity surveyor. As I am not university educated, I assume I would need to go down the AssoRICS route first. Within the requirements, it mentions a foundation qualification. As RICS currently offer a Quantity Surveying Foundation Programme, do you know if this course would qualify as a requirement to apply for the accreditation? Many thanks,
@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hello Jack, thanks for your comment! Yes it does sound as though obtaining AssocRICS would be a good first step before going for the full chartership. In order to enrol for AssocRICS you must meet one of the following: - 1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree - 2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification - 4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required). You could of course complete the foundation programme but as you currently work within the industry and are carrying out Quantity Surveying duties you may be eligible to enrol based on your work experience (if you have a minimum of 4 years) and that way you wouldn't need an additional qualification.

Should I Undergo APC training or AssocRIC? what's the difference . Kindly reply. Thank you

Hello there, it sounds like you are gaining really great experience! AssocRics and the APC are technically the same thing... In order to achieve AssocRics status you must complete what RICS call Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) which consists of a number of elements listed and explained in the video. We understand it can be slightly confusing but essentially, AssocRics is the qualification you are looking to achieve, and the APC is the assessment criteria you must meet to achieve it. Please keep us updated with how you get on! :)

Thanks for the informative video. For AssocRICS, do you need to log a diary like you do for full chartership?
@Metroun Жыл бұрын
Hello James, no you don't. You can enrol for RICS at anytime as long as you meet one of the following: - 1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree - 2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification - 4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required).

Very informative, thank you. However, what can I do if I do not have a counselor/mentor and don't know anyone directly
@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Faizen, thanks for your comment. There are a couple of things you could try. Maybe reach out to your local RICS office as they could connect you with a willing mentor in your area. You could also join a professional organisation or networking group - many of these groups offer mentorship programs and could even put you in touch with professionals who may be willing to serve as your mentor for your RICS journey.

Hi, i have PMP and 15 years of experience. can i get a direct entry for AssocRics without assessment?
@MetrounАй бұрын
Yes in theory you would be. As a holder of the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification with 15 years of experience, you are eligible for direct entry to Associate Membership (AssocRICS) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The PMP certification is recognised by RICS for direct entry to AssocRICS, provided certain conditions are met. Requirements for Direct Entry: Proposer: You need a proposer who is an existing RICS member (AssocRICS with four years’ relevant experience post-AssocRICS), MRICS, or FRICS. Professionalism Module: Completion of the RICS Professionalism (ethics) module is mandatory. Résumé/CV: Provide a detailed résumé outlining your relevant experience. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): You may be asked to provide your CPD record. Application Process: Verification: RICS will verify your PMP certification and assess your résumé to confirm relevant experience. Professionalism Module: Upon approval, you will be required to complete the RICS Professionalism module, which includes e-learning and an online assessment. Proposer Confirmation: Your proposer will need to confirm their support for your application. Fees: Payment of the direct entry application fee is required. However, please check their website first for more info!

Hi. I am confused between the Associate and MRICS pathway/APC, if all the subjects, topics, and training of the Associate are also covered by the MRICS structured training Pathway. because my plan is to go first with the Associate and then Member. Please advice.
@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alrax, it really depends on the timescale. AssocRICS can be achieved quicker than MRICS (due to required experience etc.) so a lot of people like to obtain AssocRICS first and then MRICS afterwards.

However ,when ask to a counselor about this ,he said better I should complete any degree equivalent (level6) courses. Then start to enrol AssocRICS. Otherwise I have to face complications during the period of enrollment. Can you please advise what is the better way in my case? I would really appreciate if you can explain the steps between enrolling With degree &without degree . Thanks in advance

Hello Mnkp, thank you for your comment, we sympathise with your position and know how complicated becoming a member of RICS can be due to the various entry routes! If your personal councillor suggests that route then we would recommend going with that as he will have a much better understanding of your personal circumstances than we do. Due to the fact that different types of qualifications and length of experience can greatly affect the the length of individuals routes to becoming AssocRICS or RICS it must always be done on a case by case basis and is not the same for everybody.

@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, you can find further info here: www.rics.org/uk/surveying-profession/join-rics/associate-member-assocrics/ In general, your degree does not need to be 'RICS Accredited' to be an associate member, as long as it relates to QSing and your relevant pathways.

Hello, thanks for your comment we really appreciate it! It's great that you have 4 years work experience. Please what does the Assessment of Professional Competence entail,is it an exam or something else!
@Metroun3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your comment... The Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) is a mixture of relevant work experience which is recorded through the CPD record and other written submissions including a case study which demonstrates technical abilities and a summary of experience. all of these written submissions are reminiscent of traditional College or University Coursework rather than an exam. The only exam part of the APC is RICS's online ethics exam which all candidates must pass. We have a video coming next week which will explain the routes to becoming a fully chartered Quantity Surveyor with RICS (a level up from being a RICS associate) so stay tuned! In the meantime, was there a particular area of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors that you would like to see explained in one of our future videos?

@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hello Toby, what is your BTEC qualification in? It is very much based on a case by case basis so it's hard to give a definitive answer but usually you would need a relevant foundation degree so a BTEC qualification is usually not enough

Hey Toby, RICS are quite stringent in terms of the qualification and work experience you have, it needs to be 'relevant' to Surveying. The current entry requirements to become AssocRICS is one of the below: - 1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree* - 2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification* - 4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required). * Any qualifications must be directly related to your selected pathway. See sector pathways below. Take a look at the following link for a list of the pathways: www.rics.org/uk/surveying-profession/join-rics/sector-pathways/ As part of your current role within the commercial agency are you dealing with any of the pathways / activities listed on a day to day basis?

I have recently been offered a Quantity Surveying position (I was a junior civil engineer for 9 months right after completing my B.Eng, Civil). Which means I have close to a year experience as an engineer but none as a quantity surveyor. My question is: Do I need to wait for a year to apply for associate member? And in that 1 year while I gather experience, what should I do to better prepare myself or are there steps I could be starting right now? Thank you in advance and your videos are tremendously helpful.
@Metroun3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your comment, we really appreciate all feedback on our videos and a big Congratulations on being offered a Quantity Surveying position! When it comes to applying for an associate RICS membership, you must meet one of the following criteria: - 1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree. - 2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification. - 4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required). As you can see, you need relevant work experience and a relevant degree. So in answer to your question, yes you would need to meet one of these criteria before applying to become a member. Our advice would be to keep a record of all projects you work on and get involved with once you start your job as a Quantity Surveyor. This will be invaluable and a great head start for your CPD (continuing professional development) record! As well as this, while you are working on projects it would be prudent to start thinking about which project you would like to choose as a case study where you can demonstrate your technical ability (another requirement of the overall APC to become an associate member). We are so pleased you are enjoying our videos. If there are any particular topics you would like us to cover in the future please do get in touch and let us know!
