For all the people that want to ACTUALLY understand what this video is even doing (and so I can educate this guy). He's in the key of A minor and he starts with an Am7, which then does a chromatic bass lead down to an F#07, which then leads chromatically again to an Fmaj7 and this is a pretty common chord progression as its just a chromatic bass lead, but then he changes colors on us and throws us a Dbm7 which is out of the key center since in A natural minor you use the A Dorian scale to follow the chord, and Db is not in there anywhere, so we're now in out of scale territory. I can't quite figure out the label for it or its purpose here because it feels like a substitution for a 5 chord which led me to the thought of a Tritone-sub but its not one, so I'm concluding to the idea of just being out of key, if someone could finidh my thought on the purpose of the last chord is that would be great

Y’all dissin game from busyworksbeats is truly disgraceful as this man has impacted probably millions of people through his videos and products. He’s teaching “jazz” to beginners by giving them ideas for chords. He knows jazz is not defined by a single way to play chords, his other videos demonstrate his true knowledge of music theory and applications, and yet y’all let a KZbin short dictate his perspective of jazz music… 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ truly disappointing, give the man his props

If anyone is wondering the term for this is a minor line cliche which could have been completed in this example upon finally moving the bottom most note down one more half step to e natural. You can hear this progression all Th time, one nice example being on Stevie Wonder’s For Once In My Life recording.

Its just A-7/G, Amaj7/Gb and F. So will be I-7, Imaj7, IV. What you can really learn from this is that 1. You can use inversions (like in the example is used the 3th inversion of the chords of Amaj7 and A-7) to form chromatic progressions in the bass, this create a smooth vibe between chords. 2. Using variations of chords outside the progression can be possible but it’s recommended to have a directional purpose, this way you can lead the listener to a “expected” direction, this case from Amaj7 to F. This is called modal exchange. 3. By playing with the modes its possible to create a vibe not so predictable, this is why we can se a Imaj7 that is major in a minor progression. So, its possible to get out of the typical context of sad/dramatic of minor and happy/joyfull of major. (But be careful, going to much out side the scale can lead to a lack of musical context, to common listeners could be too tricky to follow the harmony). Hope this could be useful.

Well he couldve just said he used chromaticism. That's literally all he did to create that "jazzy" sound cause jazz tonality is characterised by accidental sounding sounds. When he did that, his chords probably shifted from aumented, diminished, suspended (kinda guessing there) in a chromatic movement. And moving this way could have modulated the key up or down a fifth then back to a minor?
