I have been crocheting for 40 years, and the biggest issue I have with starting a new project is knowing how long to make the foundation chain. With this method it is so easy to see how long I need to make the project. Thank you for your clear instructions and helpful video!

Wow. Agree with many others. Years of chain replaced in a flash. Other video presentations of this were confusing and hard to manipulate. Easy.. straight forward… paced.. voice tone added clear caring tone.. simple to follow. Masterfully done!

This technique is so helpful. Thank you so much for making and uploading. I've been crocheting for over 40 years and made a few blankets in my time. This technique saves time on counting accurately how many chains to start with. I tend to mis-count after 50 chains. I am using this technique moving forward I just started a shawl that has a foundation chain of over 200 chains. I used the foundation double crochet and saved myself so much time, frustration and eye strain. I liked and commented because more chrocheters need to see this. ❤❤❤

FANTASTIC! I wish I knew of this technique 50 years ago. What an easy method to correct a MAJOR PROBLEM in all those thousands of foundation chain patterns. You have a perfect calm voice and explain very clearly and slowly so everyone can grasp this “new” method. I can’t even begin to thank you enough.

I am a very experienced knitter with basic crochet skills. That foundation chain with many stitches is the hardest part of the whole process in my mind. I am making a shawl and have been redoing a chain of 200 stitches over and over for days now and once I was able to get a decent looking untwisted chain, I found it to be too tight for the fabric. This is brilliant! It’s easy to do and it’s easy to count the stitches you have. Not sure why this isn’t the standard way of doing things. It will be my go to for all projects. As a knitter, I also appreciate your “knotless” start. I’ll be using that technique as well. This is a great tutorial- clear, slow, concise and no background music. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for this video. I tried looking at other videos, but they did not turn the work upside down like you did so it looked like they were putting the needle into the side stitch of the work instead of the bottom. This video really helped me to master this technique. I was always coming up with the wrong number on my second row and I would have to start all over again. I think the first and second rows are the hardest because you have to make your stitches are even on the first row and it is easy to miss a stitch on the second row. Especially when you are using multicolored yarn. This solves that problem. Now I just have to count my stitches to make sure I have the correct number on both rows. and both rows will be uniform. This is great!!!

I have some more tipps: with this technique all stitch-hights are possible for sample quedruple croshet: start with chain five for the hight. wrap the yarn three times around your hook, then skip four chain-stitches, beginning at the hook and pull a loop through the last one. Now you should have four loopa on your hook. like the others pull a new loop through one at first and then this time three times one new loop through two, to reach one loop on your hook again. the other stitches to compleete the row are just the same, just go through the stitch at the bottom, as shown in the vide, after wrapping the yarn oround the hook. Higher stitches = longer chain at the begining, more rounds of wrapping the yarn around the hook and more steps of looping through to reach one loop on the hook again. You also can make a connected version of doube, thriple or quadruple crochets in this technique: start with the little chain for the hight as usoal. but now skip only the first stitch from the hook and pull loops through all others to get the needed number of loops on your hook. the rest of the first stitch goes as shown here. for all other stitches in the row: for double crochet, you will find one hole in the front to pull the first loop through and then one through the bottom stitch as shown. for thriple, you should find two and for quadruple, you should find three of theese holes there to pull loops through. this replaces wrapping the yarn around the hook and the stitches appear compacter.
