Hey Levi, your yellow couch is iconic... and it’s a rescue couch that was given a whole new life. What’s not to love about that? Just ignore those couch critics... they’re completely envious that they don’t own such a sweet piece of vintage furniture, haha! (🛋... it’s a sad world when no yellow couch emoji available 🤣 🇨🇦)

I'm in a constant battle with my self regarding my appearance, and I think its comes from my mother and my childhood. I always think that if I have this new makeup I would do my makeup every morning, if I have this new super expensive schampoo my hair will look gorgeous every day and if I just by some more fancy clothes I would look more proper and be more respected. Deep down I know that I'm waaaay to lazy to put on makeup in the morning, style my hair or think about "what outfit" looks the best. My mood is the trigger point for me. If I feel out of place, alone or see people online who "always" dress nice and put makeup on my thoughts just pile up and if I don't distract myself I usually buy stuff.. Last year I got soooo much better at not giving in at once, to think twice before I buy something and it didn't always work, but most of the time it did. I'm a very social person, and I've been home alone for over a week now and I feel this itch in my hands and body that now is the time! If I just get this I can start doing that and then I will look like this and feel like that. No. I'm a loved, kind and funny human being and my friends and family love me for me, and I don't need stuff to be valued or respected. Sorry for long comment, loved the video as always ❤

Hi Hanna, I read your comment (twice)... no problem with it being lengthy... sometimes expressing ourselves through words can be a really positive thing. I recognize my comment may not be helpful at this exact time because, as you mentioned, we are spending more time alone right now. Perhaps I can share two things that have been helpful to me when I am struggling: 1) I offer sincere and heartfelt compliments to others. Creating positive interactions and making other people feel happy makes me feel really good about myself. 2) Any type of journaling or writing. It doesn’t have to be lengthy, I just find it helpful to get things out of my head and into words. You are so right when you said ‘you don’t need stuff to be valued or respected’. Your words are very powerful!

I do a walking meditation in nature every single day. Partly because it's my job as a pet nanny but mostly because I just love being in nature. It's always there & never fails me and over the years I've come to really have an appreciation for it's healing nature. Read books on forest bathing and you will see just how amazingly healing getting out in nature can be.

Fantastic video Immy. Totally agree with you. Minimalism is different for everyone. A few years ago I got really into walking. Convinced myself I needed multiple pairs of walking boots. Bought them, used them. Then I had a minimalism guilt trip, and decided I shouldn't have all these boots, so decluttered down to 1 pair. Then I realised I did need more than 1 pair, if only for part of the year. So ended up buying the same boots I'd donated the year before! Moral of the story, have as much as you need, as long as you actually use it! 👍💕

As a psychology student I really appreciate your approach, rather than just following a set of rules this process will help you actually adopt your desired lifestyle. The power of sitting alone, in silence is so wonderful. My flatmate spent three weeks at their parents home over Christmas, to begin with I was so scared to be alone but now I find it so therapeutic - really allowed me to get a head start on my intentions for the years. These also happen to be adopting a more minimalist lifestyle and a low buy year.

Hey Tilly... I totally agree with you about “the power of sitting alone, in silence is so wonderful.” I have quiet me-time every morning and I actually get grumpy if my partner decides to get up early and he unintentionally invades my solitude. (Thankfully this is a rare occurrence.) Also, I’m a wild swimmer and, although the safety pros would cringe to hear my say this, I love wild swimming alone. Just me, the water, and my thoughts...it’s very meditative. Good luck on your intentions for 2021, and have a great upcoming weekend 😃🇨🇦

Ride the wave... i needed to hear that! Being unmotivated can be really hard sometimes and fretting about getting back in the swing of things can make us even more unmotivated. But the thought that “this too shall pass”really does make it easier....

Interestingly enough I tend to do a lot of things without music or anything on. Even when I lived alone I rarely played music or tv in the background. I think it was my job but even now I just do things in the quiet. I think this video is helpful because I’m trying to decluttering a lot of things in my life but I also struggle so much.

It’s true that the brain always try to make shortcuts and make us buy things to help us on our journey! What I read through my decluttering journey is we usually hold on to things that make us look a certain way. For example my bf want to be into cigars. And he want to buy this fancy lighter and gaz to fill it. When in the first place he doesn’t know if he will like cigars and we have simple lighters at home already. Meanwhile I hold on to so many things for so many reasons 😩

Hi! I love this video, thank you for posting meaningful content. I sit in silence with a mug of yerba mate every day and in order to do so I need to wake up at 6 a.m. the latest, before my noisy family is up, but it's worth it. I highly recommend a quiet time alone. Since we're talking about silence and avoiding all kind of unnecessary noise, I'll take the opportunity to ask you if it's possible that you give up adding background music to your videos, especially when you're talking. You have such a lovely voice and speak with good flow so it's a pleasure to listen to you and I don't think anyone needs the "elevator music" playing in the back.

I love your idea of taking the time to reflect without any distractions. I find myself listening to music or podcasts very often while I'm walking or even just doing chores around the house, and I think that adding in some quiet reflection is going to be really helpful. When I do listen to podcasts, I have been listening to "the minimalists" and I've found some really valuable information through their episodes so far :) Thank you Immy!

Thank you for another great video! As for living with less I’m on the right path; I’ve moved from Portugal to the US with my husband and kids almost 6 years ago and since then our goal really is to save and my personal goal is to share mindfulness with my children, about their life’s, about things, about spending...the issue now is finding time for myself which I’ve been struggling a lot...since March 2020 we are all in the same space since school is virtual, the husband is working remotely and I only have a part time for 2.5h at a school which has been stressful as well...what I need is to reconnect with myself but it’s been SO hard...thank you for making these videos which alway help me to calm down and just breath 💕

I've always loved to spend time in solitude since I was a child. It became more complicated through time. So, the last December I decided to spend my breakfasts alone, only with a book if so. I also removed Instagram from my phone, it was consuming me. I encourage everyone to find a moment throughout the day to be alone, it'll make the difference. I love cooking alone. We, ourselves, are more than enough company sometimes, we need to value that! P.S: I'm liking a lot these new videos, you seem so happy and comfortable :)

Thank you for putting into words a lot of the thoughts I have about minimalism. I am all in for it but sometimes it seems it is created by youtubers just the same kind of a trendy thing everything else in the fast lifestyle is, and that people are encouraged to throw out their stuff and become "minimalists" just to have more space in their lives for more stuff to be recommended and advertised to them...

Also to expand on this, trying to talk to people insistent on buying you shit that you just end up donating? I'm mega struggling with my inlaws about this. I constantly express how we don't want much/anything, how when we do buy things we love second hand or very specific companies and are super conscious about what we own and spend money on. They literally don't care. I don't know what to do anymore!!

Do your inlaws live nearby? Are they likely to just pop in? If not, take a tip from my mum - we live in Cornwall, UK - a tourist hot spot so she frequently had visitors come to stay for a couple of weeks. She had most of their gifts in a big box in a cupboard with a label on to say who they were from. When that person came to stay she would get out the ornament they had bought and put away afterwards - but while they were there complain about dusting chores and talk about which ever consumable treat she really liked. By the end of the summer she would have several boxes of fudge and biscuits stored away to get her through the winter. Lol!!
