How to bind corners!

Binding corners on a quilt can be a little tricky. Watch this video and I will walk you through the quilt binding process. You will be turning those corners with ease!

I only sew the binding on the back by hand. I've never been able to sew it with the machine well enough that it looks better than by hand. Even on little potholders that last seam is by hand.

I used to cut bindings at 2.5” strips. Now I cut them at 3”. Give a better look on the front of the quilt. Important tip, don’t have a joining seam at the corner. It makes it hard to get that perfect corner due to the excess bulk. Arrange the binding in order to miss those corners.

That's such a good tip! Mitered corners are tricky enough as it is. Also, great point about the size of your binding!

I sew to the back and wrap to the front. Try and match your threads to the binding on the top and back on the...back. I've had trouble not catching the back with your method.

I can never catch the other side in the correct place. So end up hand sewing it, any tips?

Perhaps, when you first attach it, your seam allowance is too large. Then, when you fold it over, it doesn't go far enough. Try doing a smaller seam allowance when you start - 1/4". I hope that this helps. :)

Hey! You got stuck with the bulkier join in your binding right on the corner of your quilt too!! (Just like I did with my VERY FIRST QUILT! I mean, what are the odds? Soooooo frustrating.) I notice that that was where a binding join showed up in the very first part of your demo video, but it magically disappeared in the next frame. Inconvenient, huh? Still a useful tutorial video, thanks.
