And now, I don’t have to measure and hope for the best when attaching the ends. Chorika, I also live in an apartment but have solved this problem. I got a cutting table at Jo-Ann's that have two sides that fold down for narrow storage. I was able to afford it by using a 60% off coupon at the time of purchase. If you do not have a Jo-Ann's nearby I think you could order it and have it shipped . If you download their app that will get you started. Good luck

Great video - well done. I do my bindings this way and the only thing I would add is that when sewing the attached binding down from the front, make sure your top thread matches the binding, and the bobbin thread matches the backing fabric because there will be a visible stitch line around your quilt back NEXT to (away from) the binding.

That was a very good video. I would have liked to have seen where the front stitch ended up sitting on the reverse of it. That seems to be my problem. I can usually see the stitch on the other side and not always in the right spot. Can you show us the back please? TY

Sue, I finish all my quilts this way. When you pull that binding over you have a very narrow binding showing on the reverse side as opposed to if you were doing the traditional method of hand stitching. I use invisible thread in my bobbin (I buy them pre-wound because it is hard to wind them without them getting too tight). With this method your top stitch will not fall onto the binding on the back side because it is so narrow. Stacey used a straight stitch on hers which is very nice. I use a decorative stitch on all mine, usually the serpentine (curvy) stitch. I own a 9mm machine and I love the way the curvy stitch looks on my binding. I have been teaching this method for a few years now and am so glad Stacey did a video. I hope many more people choose this method. Some of us are aging and our hands just won’t do the binding any longer or some are limited with time.

I have to look at a video every time I finish a quilt project. This one, by far, is the easiest one to do. Thank you for the “plain talk” of walking us through this process! I’m not going back the the other way of measuring the tails and folding using the binding tool. Can’t tell you how many times I have needed to rip it out and start over, lol!

I LOVE the Left Compensating Foot! It's a binding game changer! (Brother and Babylock owners - your foot is called a Left Bi-Level Foot. Sure wish Janome would make a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot. You can use their Stitch in the Ditch Foot and shift your needle to the left - and it works pretty well, but not as well as a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot.) Thank you for your tutorial! I cut my backing an inch bigger (all the way around ) than the top. Fold under twice and sow down on the top. The backing is the binding.

I wish you had shown us the back of the quilt after the binding was finished. I sew my binding on by hand because I don't usually like the way the stitching looks when sewn on by machine. Otherwise, your tutorial was nicely done and very helpful.

Using a Creative Grids Clipped Folded Corner Ruler eliminates the need to join binding strips by placing one strip vertically over the other horizontal strip, drawing the diagonal line to stitch on, sewing and cutting a 1/4 inch seam and then cutting off dog ears. Strips (as many as you want at a time) are placed right side up on top of each other. The folded corner ruler is used to cut the ends of the strips diagonally, eliminating dog ears at the same time. It is very simple to join strips as the cut edges fit together with the 1/4 inch seam matching perfectly. Saves so much time and leaves virtually little chance of error. Wouldn’t want to go back to the traditional method.

I'm less than 2 minutes in and I've already learned 2 things even though I watch all kinds of quilting videos regularly. I've never heard anyone else mention that app! And for some reason never thought to even consider if there are quilting apps or sewing apps. But the second thing is while you were talking about width of binding, even though I've heard people talk about different widths, I cant recall if anyone I watch ever talked about 2.5 " as their width of choice. If the had, it didn't click with me like today. It occurred to me, that's the width of jelly rolls, and hey, people could just use jelly rolls for their binding! 🤣 I don't think I've seen anyone outright just use a jellyroll, but why not?

Hi Rachel, I am glad you found my video useful! I have seen people use Jelly Rolls before, but for when they wanted more of a scrappy look. Because Jelly Rolls tend to only have one-three strips of the same fabric, you generally can't bind the whole quilt with the same fabric 😊

I’m glad found your video! I’ve been trying to do my bindings this way, but they never come out as nice as yours! I was always taught to do bindings on the bias, (they were supposed to be stronger). On much used and washed quilts, the bindings wear out. I’m certainly going to do your way next ! Thanks for this great video!

I had to add another comment. I finished my quilt thanks to you. I put the binding on the back and sewed it to the front. I save so much time. I just made my first quilt (at 64) and have been looking at youtube videos on how to do binding! Hands down you were on the top of my list! A very close second was someone who did it similarly but started at the front instead of the back. I had intended to find the left compensating foot for my machine, but I can’t find one. That would have ensured some neat stitching lines. But I’m sure I’ll figure something out. I’m at the final step now. Thanks for your helpful video!!!

Stop drawing lines. Use Seam Tape for that and all half square triangles. Nice tutorial.

I used to miss catching the back part of the binding because I wasn’t pulling it well enough around the edge to the back. If you give it a good snug pull and get a good amount of the binding on the back side, your stitches will catch it perfectly!

I love these detailed instructions! My Quilt Guild donates quilts and wants the binding sewed on by machine. I have never conquered this but after watching this video I am going to give it a go! I usually cut my bindings with my Accuquilt as I do a 2 1/2 inch binding but I love the bias as it lays so nice. Thanks😊
