This the first time I’ve ever posted on a KZbin video but I just wanted to congratulate you on the clarity of the clip. It’s one of the most informative I think I’ve ever seen! Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to locate on YT! Many thanks for sharing!

@@BenjaminNaudet 4:23. What happens if the Tags don't translate from Sketchup 2020 to Illustrator 2024? They convert to single lines. ie. EVERY single lined object is now defined individually by the makeup of it's lines so a circle will be made up of 20 line strokes
@BenjaminNaudet6 ай бұрын
@@suzygirl1843 Curves/circles will be segmented when exporting from SketchUp to Illustrator. Unfortunately this is how the software works. The actual tags (or layers) also do not export from SketchUp to Illustrator. This is why using the color by tag setting is important when exporting. 2:36

Are you using Sketchup 2024? I googled this issue and it's a bug with SketchUp 2024. It looks like they may have released an update that fixes the issue - make sure you update your SketchUp to the most recent version.

I either manually traced over an actual photograph of a tree or got these off of a free cad block website like cad forum. I can't remember. For future videos I will have a better system of sharing files.

Great video! I’m curious, how did you export the drawing from SketchUp with closed polygons? I can never figure that out. Thanks so much.
@BenjaminNaudet2 жыл бұрын
None of the linework from SketchUp is a closed polygon, if this is what you mean. As far as I know, when you export linework from SketchUp it will always be broken up into line segments. You are however, able to export shaded faces (3:30) which will give you a polygon shape in Illustrator. Let me know if you have any specific questions on this.
@zacklofton15252 жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminNaudet thanks for your response. I watched that segment a few times and still don’t see how you created faces. How’s that done?
@BenjaminNaudet2 жыл бұрын
@@zacklofton1525 I turned on a shaded style in SketchUp (3:25) and then enabled color by layer in my layers tab (3:30). Then I just exported as a PDF - this creates vector shapes for all of your faces.

hello there,im working with sketch 2024 and when i try to export the pdf it ignores all the different layers and line colours and creates a pdf with only black lines, could someone help me with why that happens and how to fix it?
@BenjaminNaudet7 ай бұрын
Do you have color by tag turned on? And then make sure to change the color of edges to "by layer"
@wongxiao85472 жыл бұрын
Hey, I can see that your blue fills are not effecting the trees. How can I do that? Because when I apply fill with live paint bucket tool to my buildings, many areas of trees got affected too and I can't use Magic Wand or Lasso Tool to specifically select the trees in transparency mask. I could only use Pen and Curve tool but since the trees contain many organic shapes, they are not accurate.
@BenjaminNaudet2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like there are some broken lines that make up your trees. If there are gaps in your trees then they will fill up when you are using the live paint tool. The trees I use in this video have solid faces so I don't need to worry about paint filling them. One option you could look at is adding your trees in illustrator. Create a separate illustrator file just for your trees and copy and paste them over into your primary illustrator file.

ı dont understand what have you did at minute 11:23??? How could it appearenca like all blue in one layer, please give detail :/
@BenjaminNaudet3 жыл бұрын
I was just copying all of my line layers and pasting them onto a new layer at 11:23. When I pasted all of my lines onto the new layer it highlighted them blue to show I had them selected - that is all. I like to do this when I use the live paint tool to keep things organized. Let me know if that makes sense!

hello again, I have question. I draw my railing with circle then copied it then gave material. When I want to whole model hidden line style, my railings don't appear. It s like a ghost :) I mean, actually it seems but there are no lines around them so I couldn't make on ai what you did :/ what do you suggest? Thank you.
@BenjaminNaudet3 жыл бұрын
Curved surfaces don't have "edges" so when you turn on hidden lines they disappear. Turn on your profiles and you should see them. If you are making a line drawing in illustrator I recommend keeping your railings just as lines in Sketchup - no need to make them 3D because usually they end up being too small. Let me know if this makes sense!
