Great video. Very well done. I put slotted rotors and braided hoses on my C4 almost 5 years ago. To bed my new pads and rotors, I drove to the shopping mall (1 mile away) on a Sunday morning. All green lights + very little traffic + an empty parking lot = no problem. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. I ordered everything from rock auto. Great place for parts. The only thing I would change from this parts list is to upgrade rotors to a performance rotor from rock auto or another source. I would also upgrade the pads to Street performance low dust low noise pad. Also, you must use C5 brake lines, not C6 lines. The round banjo fits perfectly. The rectangle banjo just needs to be filed down a bit to fit the C6 caliper but is an easy common mid that works no problem.

I meant easy mod to file a bit of metal off banjo to make it fit.

Great series and I picked up a few tips for my project. I got all my stuff from TPS. I also got 1-piece Hawk pads and 2 piece rotors to keep the weight down. I also have a brake booster pump and cap to pressurize the system and a tech-2 and hope to be able to use its brake bleed procedure. Once again a nicely done series and enjoyed commentary from your daughter 😆

Did you upgrade the knuckles? During the test / design phase of the C6 ZR1, GM engineers discovered notable flexing in the knuckle, which prompted them to manufacture a "beefier" knuckle and that was the upgraded knuckle from 2009 forward. It is a different part#. There's two corvette forum message strings with all the details and pictures.

I couldn't take it any longer...after watching your Z06 brake swap videos, I went out and purchased the kit! I can tell you, the OEM Z06 brake parts are getting harder to find since the haven't been made them in years. I had to source them from various companies and some of the parts are not as cheap as they once were !!!!!!! If you're on the fence about getting this "FACTORY GM" brake swap... now is the time to act, once the new parts are gone, your only option will be the $4000 big brake kits.

From your first video I got an impression that brake hoses and brake master cylinder went totally empty. Service manual asks not to Do it. I followed your video instructions. I am wondering now, should I bleed the master cylinder first and after that each brake individually ?
@YoshiV819
@YoshiV819 4 жыл бұрын
Did you, and have you in the past, fully bled the brake system to replace all the fluid? In the video it was hard to tell, some of the fluid was black and dirty and some was not. Brake fluid absorbs a lot of moisture even though it's a closed system, maybe less of an issue in the desert. Are you planning to have someone run the ECBM bleed process with a scan tool? My understanding is while it's not typically necessary it helps restore pedal position and feel and should be run between two normal bleed procedures to maximize the results.

I've removed calipers off my Camaro ZL1 and they suggest to replace caliper bolts. They say the stretch when there torqued. I just wanted to pass this information down because I saw your video where you reused your old bolts.
@mycorvettelife

The manufacture says a lot of things that aren't totally necessary. Those bolts are twice as large as your wheel studs, and you don't replace those every time you take your wheel on and off. Just my 2 cents.

No offence but where is your disclaimer. Is there an official GM TSB outlining this upgrade with factory torque specifications? I know you mean well but those parts were never designed to be installed on your car whether they happen to fit or not, that being said the torque values you used (btw is that torque value stated wet or dry fastener) were not meant for those calipers on that specific application. What was the bolt torqued to previous to you working on the brakes, did you measure the bolt for stretch? Never reuse critical fasteners in any application but especially so on brakes. What exactly does standard loctite do when used on brake components? Loctite 271 once cured for instance will “melt” at 500F, generally speaking under normal use your brakes may not generate those types of temperatures but for any sort of severe duty (track use) your calipers could experience temperatures higher than that and your loctite loses practically all of it’s “locking ability”. I would caution anyone attempting this modification to do some further research on fasteners and engineering best practice, you may find yourself (best case scenario) without insurance coverage should you be involved in a collision due to brake failure, or your insurance company may point to your modification and cite that as the cause of your collision. Be careful people, some modifications can be dangerous and-or or leave you liable for damages and-or injuries, track use is one thing but modifications such as this are not generally acceptable for use on public roads. CYA!
@mycorvettelife
@mycorvettelife 3 жыл бұрын
Don, no offense, but I’m not the first person to do this upgrade. If you didn’t know, C5 and C6 share a great many parts, including many suspension components. The C6 uses the exact same spindles as the C5. This is why these are a direct bolt on. No disclaimers needed. Torque specs are exactly the same. This is no different from installing them on a base C6, C6 GS, or C6 Z06. Also, to be clear, these bolts have thread locker from the factory. Also, to be clear, anyone who tracks their car changes their brake pads and re-torques the bolts time after time after time after time. Maybe you should do some more research.
