fun fact: you can also create hair using the feathering method, just pick a dark color stroke half of it and pick a lighter color and stroke leave some space to put the same dark color you recently used or put a darker color, this is optional but for better results make sure to line art it with your darkest color and done! another method: you need three markers for this one use the darkest color, follow the line art of the hair using the marker. get your medium color and do the same and use the lightest to color the white spaces if you want an accurate one make sure to identify your light and shadow first, you can also blend the darkest and medium or all the colors or just that way

Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. This morning, I was waiting in the lobby at the doctor's office and noticed there were adult coloring books and cheap Cra-Z-Art washable markers, which if I'm not mistaken basically translates to water-based. I decided to give them a try to stave off boredom while waiting and really didn't expect much being that the brand is so cheap and well...waterbased onto of cheap quality. I used the feathering/flicking technique and was actually quite pleased with the results. Not to mention quite surprised. The paper didn't peel and it wasn't much thicker than standard printer paper and I actually got some decent, even pretty, blends. Kinda made my day. Of course, some of the markers were nearly dried out and/or the nibs were quite worn, but I was actually quite surprised and impressed by the performance. I'm even considering buying a set of those cheapest just to play with. I actually had fun with them. 😁 I'm always very happy and pleased when my artistic endeavors turn out better than expected, and believe me, the bar was low with those.

What paper do you use? For this video, I used Strathmore Bristol Paper which is 270gsm. I like it because it's super thick and can withhold lots of ink. In my video reviewing the Spectrum Noir markers, I used the Strathmore Marker Paper which is 190gsm. I think that paper holds up well, but it is a little thinner than bristol paper. It is also made for markers, so it holds up well to lots of layering and blends well. Here's some links to the products, if you're interested! Hope this helps! when you say keep the page wet do you mean like what you would do for a water color piece?
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
When I say keep the page wet, I don't mean use water to keep it wet. For alcohol markers, the easiest way to blend it is to keep the page soaked in marker. In order to do this, I go over a section several times so there's lots of product. Then, if I want to blend another color, I will add it in. If you wait until the page dries, then it won't blend as easily and will create a hard line.

Ok so first my paper should be wet it goes like lighter to darker tone first a base colour den colour above tht again base color den final colour den base colour repeat this until it get blend ?? But in general how many times should i repeat???
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the markers, paper and how many colors you're blending to determine how many times you want to repeat. For example, in this drawing, I would say I went over the skirt 4 times in total, after applying all the colors. However, I was using a chisel tipped marker and this tends to require more layers to get a smoother blend. If I were using a brush tipped marker, it would take less layers to blend the colors more seamlessly.

How about some mix media marker and color pencil
@SketchingwithRabbits Жыл бұрын
I use marker and colored pencils in some of my artwork! It works great on bristol paper or mixed media paper. I usually blend my markers first, then add colored pencils over as embellishments. If I add colored pencils before marker, the waxy texture doesn't let the marker soak into the paper.

Hi there! I made a second "How to Blend with Alcohol Markers" video - it should be the video shown at the end. I'm new to these markers. Do they ever stain and transfer?
@SketchingwithRabbits2 жыл бұрын
I've found that they will transfer onto another piece of paper if anything is laid on top/stacked. I tend to put a piece of scrap paper in-between my art pieces to prevent any staining. I have found red tones to be the most problematic as they leave a yellow stain on any page pressed on top. As for transferring, I use these markers on bristol paper so it's really thick and I find it doesn't bleed through. I haven't had any issues with the marker transferring onto the next page when coloring, but again, I am using very thick paper. On sketch paper or thin paper, it will definitely bleed through, especially with a lot of layers. I hope this helped!

My daughter wants new markers for Christmas. She is 8. She is an artist. What would be the best marker for her. are ALCOHOL MARKERS too advanced or old for her? What marker would you suggest or recommend for a child her age who is used to creating paintings and things with all the various mediums, except ALCOHOL MARKERS
@SketchingwithRabbits2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think alcohol markers can be great for kids. It'd be hard for me to judge if they're too advanced for her since children learn at different speeds! There are some really affordable sets out there. I'd suggest getting a set that has a chisel/fine tip since they're more affordable. Brush tips tend to be more expensive and if not taken care of or used properly, can fray or easily ruin the marker. I'd suggest the Parkoo Marker set of 80 to start off with. That should give her lots of colors to choose from and to see if she likes the medium! Here's a review I did of it if you'd like to see my honest review: bit.ly/3HO6uPf I'm not sure what you're asking in your last question. Did you want suggestions on other mediums besides markers, or other marker types? The only other marker type I can think of is water-based, and those would be similar to Crayola and those types of brands. I hope this helps!

I personally like to make a color card/chart of my markers because it helps to know what they would look like on paper compared to the cap color. Sometimes they're very deceiving! Afterwards, I like to do some exercises like in the video where I blend colors I like together. For the most part, alcohol markers work like normal markers with the exception of the ability to blend. Hopefully this video was able to help you! I also have another video on how to color smoothly with alcohol markers that might help too. Best of luck!

A question for you. How long does it take for markers to dry out? I have some Winsor Newton Promarkers and they don't seem particularly juicy, for want of a better word. Are Copics just naturally wetter? Thank you, and l love your work. :o)
@SketchingwithRabbits2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Copics, in my opinion, don't feel very juicy either, however, perform better with layers. I've been using the artify markers a lot lately, and I believe I reviewed them last year. None of them have dried out yet and they don't come with refills. The one benefit to Copics though is that they have the refill option available, and if I feel like a marker is feeling particularly dry, I'll add some more ink to the marker. Hope this helps a bit!

When I blend the two colors, I make sure the paper is still "wet" from the previous layer of marker. If your paper is still damp, then the marker has an easier time blending and not leaving streaks. I explain a bit more in my "How to Blend with Alcohol Markers (Pt.2)" video if you want to check it out! And as you mentioned before, if you're trying to blend significantly different colors (ex. black and light blue) it will be more difficult to get a smooth blend without a middle tone color. DUMB question-but how do you wet the paper?
@SketchingwithRabbits2 жыл бұрын
If you watch my next "How to Blend with Alcohol Markers Pt.2", I explain it a little more clearly. Basically it means to keep the paper saturated with marker, which I show examples of in the next video. Hope that helps!

Can make a vedio of how to ........ colour without wet paper??please.😇
@SketchingwithRabbits3 жыл бұрын
In the video, I said to "keep the page wet" but it doesn't actually mean to use wet paper! In the second "How to Blend with Alcohol Markers (Pt.2)" video, I explain how to blend and color on regular paper. Hope this helps!

Wet paper?
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming you're referring to when I say "keep the paper wet". This doesn't mean actually wet it with water, but instead means keep the surface of the paper covered in marker. This allows for easier blending.

I just got a brand new pack of fine tip and chisel tip markers and now I have to ask my mom for brush tip markers too😅
@SketchingwithRabbits3 жыл бұрын
Good luck! Fine & chisel markers works as well (I only used those in this video along with my "How to blend skin & blush" video), so don't feel like you are limited without brush tips!

The good thing about the markers is that the colour doesn't over lap and it's easy to blend

Does this work with any marker?
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
These tips work for alcohol based markers, so brands like Copic, Ohuhu, Arteza, Spectrum Noir, Winsor & Newton, Touch Five etc. Water based markers work differently and the same tips won't directly apply. Hope this helps!

I was wondering because I don’t have Copic markers
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
No worries! Many people don't have Copics, and I have a very limited supply, so any alcohol marker works with these tips. :)

I put the colorless blender after the colors🤦♂️
@SketchingwithRabbits3 жыл бұрын
There's no issue with that! I think it really just depends on the colors - I find using the colorless blender on darker colors make them look blotchy, but on lighter colors, it works really well!

It always looks like the colorless blender makes the colors blotchy. It completely ruins the look to me.
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
I agree, which is why nowadays, I tend to stay away from the colorless blender unless I'm trying to fade into the blank bage :)

My markers don't blend they just layer
@SketchingwithRabbits4 жыл бұрын
If you're using alcohol markers and you're applying it when the marker is still wet, they should blend! However, if you're trying to blend two colors that are difficult to merge (for example, bright red and dark green), then they won't blend easily and will only layer. Hope this helps!
